That is a great graphic.  I guess defense does win championships.  I'm a bit of a Rodgers homer, but he is a multiple Super Bowl capable QB especially considering how careful he is with the ball, avoiding putting the defense in adverse situations.

It's also relevant to understanding the dynamic in Seattle that the guys on that defense were not real fond of Russell Wilson. The Legion of Boom, Bobby Wagner, etc. were the real foundation for those back-to-back Super Bowls and what should have been two titles and Wilson got a lot of the credit (and, more importantly, the big money).

Eh, Wilson has been exposed this year, and look what Geno Smith has done!

It's likely the combination of Russell Wilson and Hackett got exposed this year. Of the two, I think Wilson is more likely to improve their performance next year to at least average.

It's amazing to think that (while they'll never admit it now), one of the main advantages Hackett had over over candidates was that Rodgers was on record hinting he'd consider following Hackett to wherever he took a coaching job. Then, Rodgers stays with GB and the Broncos react less than 4 hours after Rodgers signs with GB by making what might turn out to be worst trade in NFL history (when you combine the trade with the 250 million dollar extension Wilson got as part of it).

Of course, what might be the case in call of this is the Mark Murphy inserted himself into a situation and blocked a trade of Rodgers to the Broncos at the last minute. If that is the case, Murphy not only screwed the Packers out of a huge return on a 39 year old QB and clogged up their salary cap for another 1-2 years no matter what else happens, but he also set in motion events the will absolutely decimate the Broncos for years to come, and set up the Seahawks with a Herschel Walker type trade for a declining QB playing for a coach that looks a lot different without Aaron Rodgers.

I doubt Murphy blocked a trade of Rodgers to the Broncos. If the trade were really there and Rodgers wanted to follow Hackett and he would have gotten paid, he would have forced the issue and be in Denver right now. No doubt the Broncos were interested in Rodgers, but I don't know if they were willing to pull the trigger on a 39-year-old QB and give GB what they would have asked for in return. It's more likely that Rodgers played the FO for the huge contract by hinting he'd follow Hackett.

Denver knew that Rodgers was probably not coming, precisely because of the Wilson trade immediately after the Rodgers contract announcement. They had to have had everything in place to make that trade so quickly. Did Denver overpay? Oh yeah, by far. Given how Hackett has done in the HC position and how Wilson has played, I don't have any faith that either of them will rebound.

You all should hear what they're saying about Russ on Denver radio.  They're already figuring out ways to get out from his monster contract, even taking $107m cap hit in 2023/2024.

They're so sick of his schtick.  His press conferences are widely mocked.  Dude is a robot programmed by a bunch of Ivy League political science majors who have never actually watched football before.  Asked today if he saw this Chiefs game as more important in light of the Broncos 13 game losing streak to KC.  His response - "well football is not about the past, it's about the present and we're focused on getting better today blah blah blah blah.  Correct answer - "Absolutely.  Chiefs are a division rival and Broncos country deserves better. We know this streak exists and we want to end it.  We need to get a win for this fan base over one of our biggest rivals."  It's not that hard but he's a politician, not a leader of a football team.

Wilson drank his own kool-aid in Seattle.  He thought his play in Seattle was all him and that Carroll and the team were holding him back.  He embraced "Let Russ cook" and pushed his way out of town.  Carroll knew the truth, that Russ was a system QB that they could replace which is why all these rumors came out about trading him these last 4 years.  Pete's been trying to trade him for years!  Finally had enough and fleeced the Broncos for 2 firsts, 2 seconds, 2 starters, and a back up QB.  He was widely ripped with everyone asking "why would you ever give up a HOF QB in his prime?".  The answer?  Russ wasn't a HOF QB in his prime and Pete knew that.  Russ needed a great defense, run games, and WRs.  He needed a great coach that was able to cover up his deficiencies and play to his strengths and make him do stuff maybe he didn't want to do.  And he fooled the Broncos because that team may be done for the next 4 years because of this trade.

Sorry for the rant.  I'm not on any Broncos message boards and had to get it out.

Also very important was Russ was on his rookie contract during the Legion of Boom years. Perfect storm there.

Gotta be stoked about Prime coming to CU though!

Whether there was ever an actual deal on the table for AR is debatable.  I the Broncos had both Wilson and AR targeted for similar deals, which would make sense.  You don't put all your eggs into one basket if both are available.  The Denver media said the trade was imminent.  Where they got that information, I have no idea, but they had me excited.

LATimes had them ONLY going after Wilson.... due to age issue.
