I don't get why the national press hated that draft pick so much. The Packers had 11 picks and when you have that many you can take a flyer or two. Immediately after the draft, I felt any QB that starts 4 years at PSU, is a captain, and wins a bunch of awards, is worth a look as a backup QB. Now it looks like I might have had him underrated even as much as I liked the pick at the time. The draft gurus were trashing our entire draft because of Van Ness, Clifford , and Carlson. All 11 picks look solid to me.

Yeah I just don't get all the gnashing of teeth over a late 5th round draft choice??

I said it at the time.....They took him because....

  1. They heard or knew some other team would draft him a little later (6th or 7th round)
  2. They didn't want to fight the other 31 teams to get him on the UDFA market

This is EXACTLY what you do when you have 11 selections in the draft. Beat your competition to the player you like......and he is CLEARLY a player they liked.

Goldie: Clifford just looks like a QB. Love doesn’t.

X4: But, Love shows absolute command of the offense looking off defenders, going to multiple reads and demonstrating downfield throws.

Goldie: Clifford just has that something that Love is missing. Love didn’t do these things as a rookie.

X4: But Goldie, Love was a 21 year old rookie who played at Bum Fuck university. With no preseason as a rookie what could he do? Clifford has had a full preseason, is 25 years old and started at a top Big10 program for years. He better be ahead.

Goldie: Well, the team looks better with Clifford.

X4: Love has led his team to a TD every other drive while playing against 1st and 2nd teasers. Clifford has 3 interceptions against 3rd and 4th stringers.

Goldie: See? Clifford will be the starter by week one.

Stats and common sense: 🤷‍♀️

It’s because he’s white.

We’ve certainly made worse draft picks.  Honestly, I didn’t know anything about him when he was drafted.  I thought he was just a camp arm.  He’s much more than that, obviously.

LoL, watched the YouTube version.  I got half the game.  Whatever half of the field they showed.  Got enough out of it though to still be excited about Love’s progress and Clifford’s.  Valentine still looks like a steal.  Brooks - where did he come from?  He’s been showing out.  Engbare continues to show he’s a capable fill as depth and may be able to step into Preston’s position if needed.  Malik Heath continues to impress, we have a really good core of receivers growing up together.  A lot to be hubrised about.

Rasheed Walker got an extended look at LT Saturday night in place of Nijman.  He reportedly graded out very well.  Sean Rhyan did some good things too.  Young OL looking not too shabby.  If they have enough confidence in Walker as a future starter, I wonder if Yosh becomes trade capital.

After many reports that Devante Wyatt had been dominating camp, he's seemed to have trailed off in the games vs CIN and NEP.  Maybe he's saving a bit for when the games count.  If not, rooks Brooks and Wooden not looking like stiffs will only help the DL.

YouTube it. One of the best guitar solos ever. EVH was a genius.

LOL, funny take off on eruption.  And agreed.  Lots of versions of it on youtube and I think I have every one.  VH was my favorite band when I was in high school.  Them and Rush.

This, in a nutshell, is why Clifford was drafted.
Intelligent QBs can do well in the NFL.
This may be one of those 'Joe Montana' or 'Aaron Rodgers' type of thing where people will be looking back and wondering how the hell teams passed him over for how many times.
Especially those fans of teams who drafted a new, shiny RB disguised as a QB that's repeating the same process 2 or 3 years later.

I favor trading Nijman if Walker works out. Lots of teams need OL help.

They could still get a nice return on a compensatory pick next year if they don't deal him for something before then.

@Fandame posted:

Absolutely. You never know how Bakh is going to feel from week to week, and Nijman is at least dependable and capable.

Completely agree it's crucial to have a good OL (and especially LT) to fully evaluate Love this season - or cut bait and draft Caleb Williams in 2024

How do people even walk straight if they don't iron their underwear?

EVH was a lot of speed, but can he give you goosebumps as consistently as David Gilmour?

I’m a huge fan of both, but in my 50+ years I have never even thought about comparing the two.  Completely different styles.

I may need some of Goldie’s stash and a few hours to properly work my brain around that comparison.

I don't wear underwear or socks. I don't have an iron or an ironing board.
Isn't that ironic?
