I kind of like the idea of drafting an OT in the first round and let him develop for a year, if it's the right guy.  We may have 5 starters but you're right, 3 are free agents, injuries happen, and it's not like Bulaga and Bakhtiari were that good last year.

I still prefer a DL though, as it sounds like we could get a potential top 10-15 guy in most years at #27.   Value seems to be there and it's a huge need with Daniels and Guion the only NFL caliber starters in the group.

Can't remember if we've discussed this guy or not. Thoughts?

Nick Vigil, Utah State

Vigil, at 6-2, 239 lbs, impressed with his 40-yard (4.72), 3-cone (6.73), and 20-yard shuttle (4.0) times. Vigil's times in the 3-cone and 20-yard shuttle were tops among ALL linebackers. In fact, he just missed former Packer A.J. Hawk's Combine record in the 20-yard by .04 seconds. Perhaps even more impressive was his 6.73 time in the 3-cone drill. Only six players in the entire Combine posted better times. Vigil's brother Zach made theDolphins (and started two games) as an undrafted free-agent last year. Vigil's stock is most certainly on the rise and he could be a potential steal on the final day of the draft.

Laquon Treadwell, 4.63 and 4.65 in the 40.  Might have a chance to go late round one but odds are he is out of the top 20.

Tomorrow could have been an interesting day because Western Kentucky is up and Tyler Higbee will probably be doing the workouts (was at but did nothing at Indy).  But Higbee is probably out of the picture now that Cook has been signed.

Only pro days left that interest me are Florida State (tomorrow) and Indiana (April 1).  Florida State DT-Nile Lawrence-Stample didn't do anything at the combine...Ted could be looking at him as a fifth or sixth round nose tackle candidate.  Florida State LB-Terrance Smith did do the 40 and some of the other things at the combine but didn't do the 20-yard shuttle or the 3-cone drill, he's also probably a fifth or sixth round candidate that Ted could be looking at.  Indiana RB-Jordan Howard is another player that I think Ted might have interest in and he didn't do anything at Indianapolis.  He currently falls in the region of "not good enough to take in round two, probably off the board at the end of round three" so it will be interesting to see how he does.

If he can play football well, then why wouldn't he be "good enough at the end of round 2?"

Last year Quentin Rollins was considered a "reach". Just ask Ozzie Newsome about that.

TT will do what TT does & that's find a football player when it's our turn to select. The other 31 teams are all tripping over themselves to grab the "best athlete" or "fastest guy in the 40."

Full steam ahead toward #14

Pro Football Weekly has projections up at their website.  I don't know if it says it on the website, but Greg Gabriel is doing their evaluations.  Gabriel was an NFL scout for 15+ years and was the Bears Director of College Scouting for 9 years.

Some projections from PFW that are dramatically different from what you'll see on other sites:

Kyle Murphy/OT/Stanford = Round One

Parker Ehinger/OT/Cincinnati = Round One/Round Two

Yannick Ngakoue/EDGE/Maryland = Round Two

Avery Young/OT/Auburn = Round Two

Kevin Hogan/QB/Stanford = Round Two/Round Three

Joe Dahl/OG/Washington State = Round Two/Round Three

Leonard Floyd/OLB/Georgia = Round Two/Round Three

Hunter Henry/TE/Arkansas = Round Two/Round Three

Caleb Benenoch/OT/UCLA = Round Three

Austin Blythe/C/Iowa = Round Three/Round Four

Vernon Butler/DT/Louisiana Tech = Round Three/Round Four

Cody Whitehair/OG/Kansas State = Round Three/Round Four

Andrew Billings/DT/Baylor = Round Four/Round Five

Willie Henry/DT/Michigan = Round Six

Christian Hackenberg/QB/Penn State = Round Six/Round Seven

Landon Turner/OG/North Carolina = Round Six/Round Seven

T.J. Green/S/Clemson = Round Seven/UFA

Pro Football Weekly's write-up of this player is way off the mark factually.  States that Ehinger was a four year starter at left tackle.  Anybody who follows the draft remembers Eric Lefeld who was Cincinnati's starting left tackle two seasons ago.  Ehinger played right tackle in 2012 and 2013 (started the bowl game following the 2013 season at right guard), right guard in 2014 and then left tackle in 2015.  Zierlein has it wrong at NFL.com too...lists him as a two year starter at right guard but he only played the 2014 season at right guard.

Interesting that Pro Football Weekly's draft magazine had Ehinger projected in round five and just states "starter at left tackle" in the writeup.  Maybe some editing problems with getting the bios up on the website?

Vic, what does Tony think of Andrew Billings out of Baylor?

Tony thinks Billings is one of the five-best two-gapping defensive tackles in the draft. Here’s Tony’s top five: 1. A’Shawn Robinson, Alabama; 2. Billings; 3. Vernon Butler, Louisiana Tech; 4. Hassan Ridgway, Texas; 5. Lawrence Stample, Florida State.
