Maybe the greatest picture of sports despair ever.

RIP.

Yes, I have his cards.

BK:  I didn't realize you were old enough to remember YA.  Even though that is the iconic picture of Tittle, I grew up on the east cost and him throwing to  Del Shofner  for big plays on seemingly every third down is what I will remember best about him.

With Wide Reciever R.C. Owens he invented the Alley Oop TD pass.

When I was 7 I sent him a letter asking if we were related. He never responded.

When he was an all-pro with the Niners, NFL players made so little money he worked as a substitute history teacher during the off-season.

I bet the kids probably didn't take advantage of the substitute teacher on the days he was subbing like they normally do the average sub.

YA  Like you I loved the old guy (except when he played against the Packers) and it is too bad he was born 60 years too early!!  He would have needed an armored car to cash his NFL game check today!  I think he was the greatest screen passer ever!

I was at the '61 championship game in GB against NY and Tittle. 37-0
What a great day and it was New Years Eve to boot.
The party went on all night with people pushing each other up and down Washington st on bar stools!

The '62 championship played in NY against Tittle was sweet too. 16-7

Although I watched the 61 game on TV I remember how cold it was and that windstorm in 62 were unforgettable.  I still remember Erich Barnes laying out to block McGees punt for their only score and how hard that ground looked (even to a 9 y/o) when Huff tackled Taylor or Hornung.
