If I had a wish as a Packers fan one would be that I could have seen Lombardi coach the Packers.  I was born in the middle of those glory years so I don't have any memories of Coach Lombardi until I vaguely remember when he died.

Hey at least you were alive for the Lombardi dynasty.  I was born the year Lombardi coached the Redskins so I missed his Packer coaching years completely.  That said, I feel your pain.  I think all of us who were born around that time and became Packers' fans did a lot of suffering before 1992 and never got to experience the great stuff of the 60s.

I hate to admit this but growing up in NE Wisconsin in the 70's and 80's I used to get sick and tired of hearing about the glory years.  All I wanted was to see the Packers be good again and it took until 1992 like you said.  Suffering is a great word for the post Lombardi years until the Packers were truly back.   And as kids we were all Packers fans but we rooted for other teams in the NFL.

I can still remember as a very little kid being upset when my Mom bought me a Packers stocking hat.  "Mom but i dont want to wear that!"

Agreed Heckler, growing up "The glory years" meant zero to me since I wasn't around to experience them.  Now that I'm almost 50 years old, I appreciate history of everything in life including Packers' history a lot more.  Actually... it makes me realize that I was just a blink away from being alive during that dynasty considering I was born in '69.  My first NFL memories are of the Cowboys, Broncos, and Steelers in the 1977 season and it wasn't until '78 that I really began watching the Pack.

I saw every game he coached in Title Town....born in '48.  However what I remember most was the Vince Lombardi Show.  He was interviewed for the first half of the show and broke down a few key plays with the host, then a player joined for a few minutes and Coach kind of chided and praised him for a few minutes.  Throw in a few audience questions and a look forward to the next game and the show was over.

He was down to earth, humble and very good with people.  He taught us kids a lot about football.  Most still applies today, my fav is this," blocking and tackling wins football games".  How true.

I was born in 1966 so I have no memory of the Lombardi years.  But I know for me having lived through the "gory years" from the 70's to 1992 makes me appreciate what we have now so much more.

From everything I have read about Lombardi it is mentioned over and over again how fair he really was to everyone and in many ways he was ahead of his time.

My first game in person was at Milwaukee County Stadium in Vince's last year in GB.  The Packers beat the Falcons 23-0.  I believe Zeke was the QB that day.  RB Ben Wilson ran a sweep for a 15+ yard TD toward the corner of the end zone where I was standing - I couldn't see if I sat - and I couldn't see at times when I stood.  I had not had my growth spurt yet.  The tickets came from a relative who knew I would enjoy it - he wasn't wrong.  I refer to tickets in the plural because one was for my Dad as well.
