Meyer has a national championship, OSU is going to keep him on "leave" through this season and then quietly reinstate him in some capacity in late 2018 so he can do some recruiting. Then quietly fully reinstate him before NSD and hope there's a new controversy going on that will bury his reinstatement.

OSU opens with Oregon State and Rutgers. Oregon State was 1-11 last year and Rutgers was 4-8. The third game is at TCU which was the #9 team in the country at the end of last year. What do you want to bet that Urban gets a two game suspension for "failing" at media day?

I missed this by one game. Maybe TCU is going to have a down year this year?

LOL. 3 Games. That will send a message. The message being that the non-conference game and what is essentially a bye week against Rutgers don't matter.

Ok I got my hands on the report that the O$U investigators just finished.  O$U rubes will tell you Urban never knew anything in 2015 but here is a part of the report:

I love how these guys always hide behind the idea that they are never in the loop. I guarantee you Urban Meyer is aware of every minute detail if anything going on affects his program. Same thing with Tom Izzo and Dantonio at MSU, Paterno at Penn State, etc.

OSU's own report says Urban has significant memory issues and likely deleted all his old texts, but they keep him. Destroying evidence is generally not a good look for anyone.

Meyer is on record stating he remembers every play in the $EC championship game v Bama- when he was at Floriduh.

Maybe he’s got a case of β€œselective memory” as something my wife mentions to me.  Or maybe he’s been consulting with Roseanne Barr’s PR experts.

ADA?  LMFAO.  Meyer wasn’t fired because O$U considers football more important than integrity or morality.  It’s not any more complicated than that.   And yet another reason to dislike Urb and the Suckeyes.

Congrats Urb.  You’ve now joined the sad fraternity of scumbag coaches like Art Briles and Bobby Petrino.  Well played!

From an SI story:

Fourth, Meyer would have had 38 million reasons to litigate a for-cause firing, and a protracted legal fight could have been very damaging to Ohio State on multiple levels. Per the terms of his employment contract, Meyer had the right to litigate a contract dispute in Franklin County, Ohio. Had he been fired, Meyer could have sued the school for breach of contract, defamation and possibly also for violating the Americans with Disabilities Act

The report also mentions that Meyer periodically takes medicine that β€œcan negatively impair his memory, concentration, and focus.” Investigators also observed that Meyer β€œsometimes had significant memory issues in other situations where he had prior extensive knowledge of events.” The report suggests some of Meyer’s answers during Big Ten media day reflected not ill-intent but rather blameless health conditions. In any lawsuit over a firing, Meyer’s attorneys would have argued that the university admits medication impacts Meyer’s focus and concentration and thus perhaps played an exonerating role in his missteps. Both federal and state laws provide protections for employees with health conditions and who use medication.

Oh when I saw the selective memory/memory difficulties I honestly laughed out loud.  I see way to much Urban on local TV and radio and trust me this guy is not suffering from memory loss.

Oh trust me O$U likes to come across as this academic university but honestly all they care about is football.  And all the fans care about is football and if the Manson family ran that football team the fans would say "they are just misunderstood they have the best interest in mind for those kids".  I am not even kidding one bit.

I have been having fun with the Suckeye fans when I say things like "so if Urban Meyer was at Michigan or an SEC school would you give him  a free pass on this one?"  I like the blank stares when I say that.

I think he's worse than Petrino. As someone else said on this board, it's not like Petrino tries to come across as a saint. You pretty much know what you are getting from him.

Meyer tries to come across as above it all and saintly. It's the same as Roy Williams for UNC basketball claiming he had no idea his players weren't actually doing classwork themselves.

I’ve defended many ADA claims over the years - some legit and some utterly ridiculous.  Urb’s claim would qualify as the latter. There’s too much evidence to the contrary as head football coach of a legacy program.   It’s as stupid as Rosanne claiming the Ambien caused her to make idiotic and racist statements via Twitter.  You mean the other 200 offensive comments you’ve made over the years didn’t count? Give me a break.

Meyer has won 90% of his games at O$U not to mention a national championship. That type of success has generated millions for the university.  You can’t kill the golden goose and that win at any cost mentality works.  Money talks and ethics walk.

The guy is a slimeball and somewhere Jim Tressel is probably shaking his head.

Spent quite a bit of time this week wondering how someone has to be wired to leave the kind of destructive wake Urban has from failed kids to murder victims to assault victims to jailed students to battered girlfriends and wives and he just keeps on keeping on because the next season is quickly approaching.

What OSU didn’t do with Urban is surprising. Sorry. It is. It is still a respected academic institution.

But I can’t get past how Urban lives with himself.

If Urban Meyer got fired there would be a number of programs lining up to beg for his services.   And he’d still get paid a lot of jack and act like an arrogant ass.

Next to Saban, I can’t think of a more proven successful HC the last 10-15 years than Urb.  Dabo Sweeney is getting close but he’s not in that category yet.

You see how this works?   It’s very easy to look the other way when you are that successful.   There’s only a handful of head coaches that operate at his level. Although, the problem I have is Ohio $tate doesn’t have to compromise their ethics to be good. They have the legacy and tradition.  They can get top notch recruits and have world class facilities. But winning championships can be intoxicating  and can warp your sense of reality and morality.  That and beating Michigan!

You see it in business and politics all the time - power and money can corrupt and sometimes the results mean more than the intent.   It’s effed up but not that surprising.
