Brewers bullpen catcher Marcus Hanel drew some boos and a few cheers from fans in the bleachers at Wrigley Field when he took off his warmup top before the game, revealing an Aaron Rodgers jersey. Rodgers directed the Green Bay Packers to a 24-23 comeback victory over the Chicago Bears on Sunday night.
My wife graduated HS with Marcus. He was the paperboy in their neighborhood (Racine).
Man, the tables in September have completely turned. If Lester is out any significant time, they could be in big trouble.
It was just a few weeks ago when they appeared to face plant and it looked bleak. The BP was getting knocked around, the starters were having trouble getting out of the 3rd inning...
But the schedule was favorable, and they’ve taken advantage of it. The momentum is evident now... they’re building confidence and playing like they know they’re going to win. And it’s the Cubs that are kicking the ball around the yard, losing their composure, struggling to make the clutch plays. Since Yelich beat out that throw, you can see the team just exudes confidence.
Lets finish the job...
My Cubs are in a really tough stretch because of all the rainouts. They will have been to the ballpark, I believe, 30 out of the last 31 days. Their next day off is Thursday and now they’re supposed to fly to WDC for a makeup game followed by a flight to AZ. They only have one remaining day off (next week) and that’s after the previously mentioned 30+ consecutive days. Talk about sh!tty circumstances.
No excuses though. The Brewers are back in to playing well. And if they win the division, the Brewers will have earned it.

Quintana has the Brewers’ number... but they still had multiple chances last night with men on and couldn’t get a hit. The Cubs only got one earned run last night, so that needs to stop.
If they want to win the division they need today. They have to put the pressure on right here. After that 6 at home against the Pirates and Reds, then six away at Pirates and Cardinals, then that stupid interleague crap at home to finish. 9-3/8-4 might win it... but you gotta be one back.
Cubs have a long and winding road ahead of them. A win today makes that more interesting.

I think they’ll get the game in. But the Cubs won’t land in DC until well after midnight. And then they have to fly back to Chicago right after the game. The game on Friday was moved from the afternoon to a 7p start to accommodate the travel.

Scrubs feeling wild card likely. Using the whorrible schedule as the reason for their collapse. Nothing to do with Brewers making smert moves and playing well.
How Anderson went 4 shutout innings with his stuff last night is baffling. Granderson may be the move that takes us the furthest. Scored all 3 of our first runs last night.

This. Didn't hear a whole lot of complaining when the Brewers played 21 games in 20 days leading to the AS Break. Or had to play 17 straight after the break. You have a 40 man roster available now - shouldn't be too hard to give a day of rest if needed in September.
No excuses from this Cubs fan. As I stated in a previous post, the scheduling has sucked. But the Brewers are playing well. And if they end up winning the division (Brewers) , they’ll deserve it.

Those guys have been godsends. You can tell that Granderson, Moustakis, Cain, and Braun are unfazed by any sort of pennant race as they've been around the block. Yelich may be new to this, but he also looks unfazed.
Aguilar on the other hand just hasn't looked good in awhile. He seems to be waiting for a mistake pitch that never comes. Hopefully by me saying this, Aguilar hits 7 HRs in the next 5 games... but the truth is after the All-Star break he's reverted to being the journeyman type guy he had been before breaking out last year and well into this year.
If Jesus could hit like he did in August it would go a long way
