I love the Amos and Z Smith signings.  I think both were underrated players that signed for pretty fair deals if they perform like they did last year.  I actually didn't know much about Preston SMith but I've read good things.  It seems like all three players are more "substance over stats" guys, which seems like what you want to do in free agency (rather than chase the guy who has a career stat year going into free agency).

But not a fan of the Billy Turner signing.  He was just a guy in Denver.  My guess is that the Packers were sick of having no depth so they overpaid for a guy that can play RT, RG and LG.  Sounds like he'll play RG but at least it gives them flexibility when Bulaga gets hurt.  But $7m per year is a lot for a guy that was pretty average in Denver.

Don't think Broncos felt that way, but Green Bay outbid them.

I was surprised at the money Billy Turner got but the plan has to be for him to start G and rotate outside WHEN Bulaga goes down.  I expect GB to snag 1 or 2 OL in the draft to build depth for a change.

I think the gem of FA is going to be Preston Smith.  Heโ€™s a very underrated player and gets heat on the QB.  Z. Smith was solid and Amos should be a steady player on the back end.

Overall, I think Gute hit a homerun in FA and I expect him to add another player or two still.

I like the Turner signing.
He's bound to beat out Spriggs and/or Bell, and if they wash all the way out, their salary can pay for his.
I'm hoping between this and the draft, we can clear out the backwash along the OL. Murphy, Patrick, Spriggs, McCray, and that Kofi guy all have a few years in the league, and even some starting experience, so it's time for them to either crap or get off the pot. I'm not looking for any of them to become starters, but I'd expect them to be rock-solid backups. Whoever loses out didn't need to be there.

And he will probably beat out Cole Madison too.

Could not agree more.

Now, there is always the risk that Turner may not pan out, but it is great to see that at least Gutey is aware of and actively trying fix that gaping hole at RG.

It makes no sense to ignore that hole or to hope the right player falls to GB in the draft, especially when anyone drafted will likely take some time to develop.

GB being proactive during free agency at edge, Safety, and RG also really opens the possibilities for the upcoming draft. Who knew free agency could be our friend.

Yep it can be your friend as a team and damn is it nice having Gute running the show being aggressive and working to get things fixed.  The best part is that I would bet he isn't done yet.

Just in case anyone forgot what Jason Spriggs looks like on a field.

Anyone that thinks Turner isn't an upgrade over Spriggs has NFI what they're talking about. The bar is set pretty low.

This was my feeling as well. They don't want to count on Spriggs/Murphy/Patrick/McCray if the draft doesn't go their way. O-line in free agency is very weak this year.

Interesting how some of the national pundits are talking up the HaHa headed to Chicago story.  I've seen high grades and glowing reviews from some of these dudes.  Do they even watch football?

Look... you can do worse that HCD having patrol the back end of a defense, but I'm a bit miffed why some think this was a great move.  I suppose it's possible that HCD looks much better than he actually is playing on that defense though.
