Seriously, you woulda thought MM had revamped himself to become a coach in tune with the modern game given the press on him. Instead, it sounds like he has a really good agent who is skilled in PR and spinning stories. How disappointing.

I don’t think he’s capable of adapting. He had years to try something different in GB and did nothing of the sort. Same old stale, stubborn approach. I think he’s very overrated considering what he had to work with.

Butthurt? I didn't get that at all....rather some folks having fun at MM's expense. Just blowing off a little steam before the divisional playoff game.

Heard a Bostick story in the radio yesterday.

At the end of the season MM told him they liked him & he did a good job over the course of the season. Later, Eliot Wolf comes up to Bostick & tells him they've released him.

Here is what one person who talked with MM before the hiring cycle started thinks MM said to get the job.  It is in the embedded video in the link.  The short story is:

He wasn't the same coach who got fired .............

He would put together an analytics staff of 14 people .............

He said he could make Dak a better QB.

And yes, he promised to get Elliot the ball.

All lies?  Or what?

All things I'd say if I was trying to get hired.

If we see Zeke only getting 10-12 carries in any game, you'll know it was lies. That guy needs 20 touches minimum every game, I don't care what the score is.

LOL, not the kind of boobs I'm looking for. Luscious, perky, bouncy, the perfect handful. McCarthy's.....man, I'm just going to go throw up now.

Greatest presser of all-time.

Jesus Christ, haha. I'd never seen that before.

Funny how quickly things can turn around in the NFL. The Packers, for myriad reasons, had two bad seasons back-to-back. A new GM, followed in short proximity by a new HC, and the Packers (despite what some people want to believe the advanced metrics say) are 13-3 and on the precipice of returning to the NFC Championship Game. And the Niners, who looked lost at sea, have made some smart hires, some smart moves, and look at them now.

At the risk of drawing the ire of the Times Four faithful for another movie quote, I though this was pertinent:

"Always two there are, no more, no less."

Ok, maybe it's just me. Although, judging by McCarthy's current girth, it's actually more like three."

I want to say something snarky about the Cowboys vetting process. Jerry and his offspring are running the show. They bought the team 30 (31) years ago, and have floundered for the last quarter century. The last guy, who started with a flurry of 8-8 seasons, ended with, well, an 8-8 season, despite what even the biggest Cowboys hater would have to honestly describe as a pretty damned talented roster, a roster that was, for the most part, healthy. Clearly, that means the coaching was the problem. And, there's the Jerry "meddling" factor. In his nine full seasons as Head Coach, Jason Garrett went 80-64. That's roughly an average of 9-7 every year. Wade Phillips before him went 33-15 in his full three seasons (I'm tossing 2010 out the window because they lost Romo for the year after a poor start, and the team was in chaos). Tuna went 34-30. Dave Campo 15-33. Chan Gailey 18-14. Barry Switzer, after starting 24-8 with the juggernaut Jimmy Johnson built, and winning a Super Bowl his first season, dropped to 16-16 his last two years.

Wouldn't this all seem to point to the franchise involving itself in an exhaustive search for the next Head Coach? Despite their recent ineptitude, Dallas still has some real cachet as a franchise, and a stinking rich owner. You would think that a few prime candidates would interview, and if they could convince Jones to at least remove his fingers from the pie just a little (as he must have convinced Bill Parcells he would do before Tuna signed), a couple serious candidates should have been heavily rumored (and not Urban Meyer. He was never going there).

Yet they talked to two guys. McCarthy and Marvin Lewis (because of league rules for minority interviewees). I was shocked by their announcement. Not by McCarthy being the guy. He was a good coach, if somewhat set in his ways. But the introduction came before the season ended, and practically right after Dallas packed their boxes for the year. They never talked to any of the coordinators on the teams still left in the playoffs, obviously, because rules dictated they couldn't.

In that regard, this just seems like more of the same. It seems McCarthy hasn't learned from his mistakes, and neither has Jerry Jones. How did that interview go? Did they not just ask Mike if, during the season he was out of football, he started bringing his thinking into the 21st century, but did they actually probe the subject? I know the topic of analytics has been brought up, but outside of just asking, "hey Mike, have you started learning about, or putting any credence in analytics while you had that year off?"--did they actually test his knowledge? Is Mike even conversant with Pro Football Focus? Did Jerry and Stephen create any scenarios, and ask him how, utilizing analytics, he'd respond to the situation on the field? Or, did they just ask him, and say, "Yes? That's good enough for us!"

How does a franchise with that value, that roster, that visibility, existing in a state with such an attractive cost of living, not conduct the most thorough search in the history of the NFL after 25 years of failure?

What is it with Jerry Jones? Is it arrogance, ignorance, incompetence, or a combination of the three? And as one living in the Metroplex, how is it that the fans aren't screaming bloody murder? Jerry gonna be Jerry, but if the fans raised a stink, and exercised their contempt by not filling up Jerry World every Sunday, hitting Jerry where it hurt, he might consider doing things differently. Yes, McCarthy won a Super Bowl a decade ago. His most recent history suggests that he's stuck in his ways, and the game may have passed him bye. How does that not register? Christ, Mike can't even take care of himself. How's he going to run the team from a football standpoint?

I'm blown away by this hire, and not in a good way. I really seems to me like Jerry and Mike just got together at his house, had some brisket sandwiches and Shiner Bock, talked about the glory days, and Jerry whipped out a contract. The more I think about this, the more I just don't get it.

Another red flag. Dallas has, for the past several years, had one of, if not the elite offensive lines in football. Colombo, even with some real injuries to personnel (including losing Travis Frederick for an entire season) has kept that unit humming like a fine oiled machine.

I've not heard anything about there being a problem between ownership and Colombo. So why is McCarthy being allowed to jetison the coach of one of the most successful units on the team? With all the problems Dallas has had, the line ain't one of them.

The Cowboys flounder as they do because Jerruh always is more concerned with money than he is winning. He wants everyone to believe that he wants to win Super Bowls and return the Cowboys to their former glory (in his eyes), but putting a dollar in his pocket is a higher priority.

Jerruh wants to be the head coach, GM, and CEO all at the same time.  He also wants and acts like he’s the center of attention.

I get it - it’s his team so he can do whatever he wants.  But it’s a dysfunctional situation and won’t change until he decides to change.  Not sure he will.

Prediction: Zeke will get 20+ carries per game next season. Why? Because Dak won’t have the option to audible out of run plays.

You realize they ran the ball over 40% of the time this year? You know, the first year without McCarthy and with the same guy at QB. They were in the bottom half of the NFL for percentage of pass plays.

Last year no one had a lower run percentage than Green Bay. With MM... and the same guy at QB. The year before only 6 ran the ball less. With MM... and Brett Hundley for most of the season. The year before only 1 team ran the ball less.

There's a trend here - and it's not the QB. It's the guy calling the plays.

The more things change, the more they stay the same:

According to Todd Archer of ESPN.com, McCarthy has added two of his former Packers assistants to his coaching staff.

Scott McCurley will have a role coaching linebackers, while Jeff Blasko will be Joe Philbin’s assistant offensive line coach.

Both worked for him in Green Bay, underscoring that familiarity is the best path to continued employment in the coaching rank

MM ran the ball effectively when he had effective RB's.  Grant, Starks, Lacy.  I don't know what happened with Jones, whether he was still too raw to trust or wasn't ready for more carries than he got, or he just didn't recognize the talent.  But it's not like MM didn't know how to run the ball.

Elliott will get his carries.

The Sons of Monongahela is a storied brotherhood with many esteemed members. To not hire from that talent pool, frankly, would be foolish.

Pretty sure he wouldn't have the choice.  Jerry would probably shit a gold brick if Elliot wasn't the main focus of the offense.

What other team had as much success against Dallas with the same administration? TT/MM beat the Cowboys 8 of 11 times they played. When your ego is that large, anyone who bests you must be transcendent.

Probably why Jones put Moore in charge of calling plays. He's barely started and MM is already Jones' puppet.

Rob Davis has not only joined Mike McCarthy's coaching staff in Dallas but his title is assistant head coach, sources said. A surprise considering he's never actually been on a coaching staff. He was director of player development with the Packers, which was under the football operations department.

😂😂😂 well, MM is nothing If not predictable. Hiring a slew of “yes” guys who are highly unlikely to challenge him on anything. A key problem with what went wrong in his late tenure at GB.

I don't know if it's hubris or idiocy.  Hubridiocy.

It's the NFL, you're a genius until you're not.  Sure seems like McVince has as many problems with introspection as with spotting RB talent.
