The reason AR doesn't have a contract yet is that the Packer printing presses are busy printing the money they will need for the signing bonus.  I would give it a couple more months of uninterrupted printing.

Rodgers want's another Lombardi far more than we do.

You underestimate my ability to "want" another Lombardi

So are you saying AR doesn't actually care if he gets another Lombardi?

Andrew Brandt Doesn't think a new deal will get done this year.....

Why, oh why, can't there be more Andrew Brandts and less Mike Florios or Peter Kings in sports "journalism"?

I'm not sure if there's ever been this much anticipation about a contract extension. It seems like every two weeks we're being told it's moving. Should we start a pool on the final numbers?

5 additional years

$175 million of additional money

$80 million guaranteed

Total Contract: $216 million over 7 years with $121 million guaranteed

I agree with those who say this will be a very different kind of contract.  The one thing about Rodgers previous statement about negotiations was giving the team, not him,  "more freedom".  There would have to be a sliding scale in there somewhere.

Meh, reading that article it seems a bit click baity.

I'm curious as well if they will be able to get away with doing something unique with this contract. Andrew Brandt seemed skeptical that the NFL would allow anything outside the box and if Rodgers is insistent there be something unique (doubt it) then this process will draw out longer. Rodgers is very business focused it seems, so I'm sure the part they're stuck on is guaranteed $'s.

Go Gute Go!

lol sure Aaron missed practice on Monday due to illness. IMO they were hammering through the deal.

EDIT: Schefter adds that this deal, expected to be the largest in NFL history, "will be well beyond the two years remaining on his contract and quite likely for the remainder of his career".

JJ with some of the details:

@89JonesNTAF: BREAKING The Packers and 2-Time MVP Aaron Rodgers have agreed to terms on a 4-year extension worth $33.5 million in new money... plus incentives per year... He gets over $100 million in guarantees.

Under contract for another 6 years now. He will be 42 40 years old in the last year.

Packer for life.

It only would have been more expensive the longer they waited.

Well done 1265 and 12.

Looks like a massively front loaded deal that will allow the Packers to then be active in FA once the big initial pay out is done.

80 million paid by March is what’s being reported.

He's now on a 6 year, $201 million deal. That's less than I expected. Very happy with that.

Very interested to see the cap ramifications of this deal because truly if there was a glimmer of hope for acquiring Khalil Mack it would reside in the structure of AR's contract. They couldn't even think about Mack (or anyone really) until they knew for sure what the final numbers of this deal would be.

This is a little more than $30/year.  BIG TIME $.

Almost literally emptying the safe for their star player. May need to have another stock sale to replenish the losses!
