Johnny Davis, the 2021-22 Big Ten player of the year, is headed to the nation’s capital to begin his NBA career.

Davis spent a pair of seasons at Wisconsin, averaging 19.7 points and 8.2 rebounds as a sophomore en route to being named the B1G’s best player at the close of the regular season and a first-team All-American. And, unsurprisingly, just over a week-and-a-half after the Badgers were bounced from the NCAA Tournament, he made the decision to declare for the NBA Draft and pursue a professional career.

On Thursday, Davis was taken with the 10th overall pick, going to the Washington Wizards:

bust

but, hopefully not

I don't think he'll be a bust, because his floor is pretty high. At worst (and perhaps most likely), he'll have a good career as a backup wing off the bench. He's capable of holding up defensively against 1s, 2s, and 3s and should be a guy that can generate offense in second units.

I agree that he's not likely to be even a better-than-average starter, but he does enough things well that he'll be a solid role player. If he develops his 3 point shot, then his ceiling is a lot higher, but that was his main weakness at the college level.

Ah, hello????  A Badger just went 10 in the NBA draft.  Anyone gonna say anything???  😝

The last few years have arguably been the best in terms of players growing up in Wisconsin making contributions at the NBA level.

Tyler Herro and Tyrese Halliburton are borderline all-star NBA players. Jordan Poole is an outstanding scorer. Davis has a chance to be a major contributor. Patrick Baldwin got dropped into the most ideal situation possible for his development being drafted by the Warriors. Kevon Looney is a major contributor on a title team.

I don't give a shit when he was drafted or where he went. He's not a Badger anymore when he could still  be  so the hell with him.  If he had stayed his 4 years and helped the Badgers into the NCAA Tourny I might feel different.

Wall Street Journal piece today revealed this fact: Of all the American  black men born in 1988, those that became NBA and NFL players made 8% of all the income made by black men born in 1988.

Go Johnny, go.

That’s an amazing stat.

I’m with Ammo. Fuck him for making his life better. How dare he go off to make millions when he could be entertaining my sorry ass for free.

My point was he could ahve stayed 1 more year and maybe been a top 5 draft pick. That was worth millions more.  Oh and Goldie, give me a thumbs down you get one back.

He's guaranteed to make 8 million in his first two years. The Wizards have another two years of options that that would probably add another 10-12 million in Years 3 and 4.

He'll be able to send his grandkids to college on that money if he handles it at all responsibly. If he blows out his ACL and Achilles as a rookie, he still has 8 million dollars. If he does that as a Badger, he could end up teaching high school in La Crosse making $50,000. It's a noble job choice, but it would take him 160 years to earn 8 million.

If he is ever in line for a mega-contract, it will be based on what he does as an NBA player. It not's going to be affected if he comes back and is first-team All-American again. He went top 10. It's unlikely he's going to climb much beyound that and if he turns out to be more talented than the 10th slot, he's another year closer to getting the mega-contract (and another 4 million dollars richer).

I can't read beyond the firewall, but that birth year includes Durant, Steph Curry, and Russell Westbrook. Does this include just their NBA salary or does it also include their shoe endorsements?

Just based on NBA contracts, Durant has already earned 300 million and is guaranteed another 190 million more. Curry is at 254 million and is guaranteed about another 210 million. Westbrook is at 288 million and is guaranteed another 47 million.

Between Durant, Curry, and Westbrook they are already pushing 3% of all the money earned by black men born in 1988 and they are at 842 million and are guaranteed another 450 million. If you add in the shoe money and other endorsements and investment income after they retire, it's not inconceivable they could exceed 10%.

That's insane, both from the money they'll make (and Curry and Durant probably deserve more of the NBA cut) and for what it says about the earning potential most other black men (and probably the majority of all men) have in this country.

If he had  agreed to entertain you for one more year for free you were going to guarantee him a top 5 pick next year? Do you know what kind of freaks are entering next year’s draft? There’s a 7’3” GUARD, with an 8 ft reach, for starters.

And I’m assuming you were going to guarantee his ACL complete structural integrity next year at Wisconsin?

Any player who is likely to go in the first half of the draft would be crazy not to go.  If you are likely to go in the second half of the first round you would be %90 crazy not to go.

Yes. Next year's draft if projected to be the best draft in a long time.

Wembenyama is thought to be the best prospect to come into the league since LeBron James.

Wembenyama has been described as a future Giannis with a 3 point shot, except 4 inches taller. Another comparison is Rudy Gobert on defense with Kevin Durant on offense. Of course, that sounds ridiculous, but even if he's half of that he's a generational talent.

Basically, it's likely no college player is drafted until the 5th pick.
