Same here.

Personally, I'd favor the speed and TE/RB coverage ability over a run-stopper. With those two attributes, I think we can get the tackling we'd want. This defense ain't going anywhere without some speed at ILB. JMHO.

I agree we really couldn't go wrong with either one, and we sure as hell need somebody that can tackle AP!

Do you have any concerns over their particular injury history? I don't mean to minimize them, but what player comes out of college these days without having been injured at some point? I'd also guess if they are 'worthy' of a first-round pick, healing/time from last injury isn't a major concern.

I don't see Mosley as a Patrick Willis type LB, Willis is/was a rare specimen. Mosley is very athletic with great instincts, I've seen comparisons to Jon Beason and Sean Weatherspoon which I think are pretty close. It's an interesting group of ILBs in this draft, their positive traits are things they have in abundance, but there isn't 1 complete ILB in this draft. Willis and Kuechly were/are complete ILBs, very athletic with great instincts and great tackling ability. Moses has a high football IQ, something that I think is important to GB, so I won't be surprised if he's the pick.

Shazier is a really good linebacker and while he's been projected more as an OLB he might be worth a look at ILB in a 3-4.   He is a very good tackler, can cover a lot of ground, and plays with some nastiness.  The one knock seems to be he's not very stout being listed at 220 but if I were the Packers and he's there in round 1 I would seriously consider talking him.   The LB position IMO is evolving much like the safety position in that you can't just be a tough plodder anymore.  You have to be able to cover and Shazier can certainly do that.

Tschmack's idea isn't a bad one, but just don't know if Shazier is the guy to consider for that. I'd think he wouldn't have a choice other than to add weight, but could he carry another 25-30 lbs without affecting speed (or hamstrings)?

I agree on speed and coverage ability improvement being a must. We all saw fast, rangy LBers in the playoffs and how quickly they could get to the rusher or receiver.

Cavetoad, pass the plate, brother!

ILB may not be considered that big of a need, and with the FA moves from Thompson so far I think he will go BPA, which in R1 could very well be a WR. McCarthy wants to be more multiple on defense.

They need to get at least one of the two off the field. You can get by with one of those guys, but both? Brutal. Hawk is probably a bit better than Jones (though much more expensive), but I'd be thrilled to see either replaced.

While that may be true, I think under-estimating TT or trying to predict what he will do is practically impossible.

He has consistently let the draft come to him & I expect more of the same this year

This has actually been my concern up to today, until I saw a few figures:

Shazier - 6'1, 237

Mosely - 6'2, 234

Willis - 6'1, 240

Bowman - 6'0, 242

He's not only heavier than the consensus top ILB in the draft, he's a cheeseburger short of each of the best two 3-4 ILBs in the game today. I realize that's his beefed up combine weight, and it's not fair to compare him to the pair from SF, but I'm not nearly as hung up on his size as I was. Especially if he runs a legit 4.36 40.

I also never realized his father was a pastor and the Dolphins chaplain which doesn't automatically make him pass the "character" test, but sure sounds like the background of a Ted guy.

Shazier is more like a legit 225.  While the skill set sounds great I get visions of Maybins dancing through my head of guys bulking up for combine.

I'd prefer a guy that's actually built like he's 240ish instead of someone maxing out their weight for show and then lose it all when they actually have to play.

There's a big difference in build. Shazier is built more like Taylor Mays than he is Navarro Bowman. Mays weighed in at 230 at the combine, would any of you be in favor of bulking him up to 240 and sticking him at ILB? He's only 10 lbs from Pat Willis, he could probably be an ILB right? Willis and Bowman are much more compact and strong whereas Shazier is longer and leaner. When Shazier does this:

or this:

Then we can start talking about comparisons to those guys.
