Losing to Baylor isn’t the problem

It’s losing to any decent teams (in conference or not).  I mean, other than UNC that had mailed it in who did they beat this year that was any good?

Bo Ryan’s teams were feared by others and they usually won.  No one takes Gard’s teams seriously.  That’s a problem.  You have to at least respect Wisconsin and I’m sorry to say if you look from the outside in there’s not much there.

Next year's Badgers team could be really, really bad. I'm talking like 8-20 overall, 3-15 in the Big Ten bad. Johnathan Davis looks like a legit Big 10 player and Tyler Wahl looks like the kid on good Badgers teams this century who would play about 8-10 minutes a game. After that, virtually nothing.

But that’s not what we were told. We were told this is one of the the best recruiting classes in Badgers history, and the program should still be competitive.

That’s the standard. The team should win, no excuses. If the Badgers go 8-20, he’s fired mid-season and the search begins. Or they lose the program permanently.

Some posters are saying the Badgers job is an A job and will be coveted.  I’m not so sure about that.

The program WAS an A job because they won every year, had a beautiful new cash cow they didn’t pay a dime for, and raised their profile to be a destination university through both football and basketball. No one was questioning their status as a top tier B1G program in 2015.

But it is a fair point to question it now... aNd if they don’t win then that’s the legacy of Greg Gard. He took a perennial B1G top tier team coming off BTB FFs and coached the program into the ground. And the AD let it happen. All because Gard’s a nice guy? That’s some Wisconsin stupid right there.

On paper this looks like a middle of the road D2 team.  The program has fallen off a cliff 5 years removed from a Final Four.

Why do you think this? Everyone... I mean EVERYONE was hyping up these 2 recruiting classes. A roster full of 3 and 4 star guys. Johnny Davis a 4 star talent. Hepburn a late steal from Nebraska to run the point. Ben Carlson and Tyler Wahl both skilled inside/outside Fs. Steven Crowl is a possible Frank Kaminsky C with an outside game and 7 feet of length. On paper this group should be top tier B1G and by 2023 should be challenging for another B1G title and a deep NCAA run.

That’s the only way Gard should save his job...
