Brust and Gasser are not what I would call lock down defenders and Kaminsky is a below average defender.  Dekker is an OK defender.  However, their offensive skills have (usually) overcome their issues on D this year but it's becoming more and more obvious that Bo has to lean on some of the younger guys more which can be troublesome as well because they are, well, younger guys.

This team is built to be more of an NCAA tournament team than a Big Ten team which is ironic given the history of Bo Ryan teams.   For years this team couldn't score and make shots and now that they are doing it people complain because they aren't holding teams to 50PPG.

Jacking is for the playground and undisciplined offensive teams. I see this UW squad as quite disciplined offensively, but not so much defensively. That is where their problem is right now, and I expect Bo will get it right by March.

Jacking was a poor choice of words.

I have seen little UW basketball this year and was basing my post on its history (for a few years anyway).

Historically, I have seen UW have stretches where offense is seriously lacking.

Regardless, by athletic on offense, my description is of a player with the following skills.  If he has the ball outside and is tightly covered he can beat his defender with the dribble and create a pull up jumper.

Or take it all the way to the hole and create a penetration shot.

Or dish off.

I have seen very, very few Wisconsin players have the above skill set.

Don't know what the last post is supposed to mean.

I don't expect Wisconsin to be better.  Don't they average being something like #15 in the country on a yearly basis?

All I am doing is suggesting a lack in the athleticism department that has reared its ugly head over the years.  One example was when Wisconsin lost to UNLV in the tournament.  The difference in athleticism was huge.  I believe Wisconsin went long stretches having a really hard time to score.

I have seen this many times over the years where the half court offense basically passed the ball silly (not saying that's a bad thing) only to eventually chuck a 3.

I very much doubt Wisconsin has the kind of player I am describing because it is a pattern.

Point by point-

Point 1: It is a multiple facepalm, reserved for only the most moronic of observations.  Between you and tequila, this thread represents some of the dummest work seen on this message board.  Credos.

Point 2:  OK, so what?  Is 15th a problem, a bad thing?  In the last few years we have 3 sweet 16 appearances and a big ten title.  Not sure what that has to do with this year’s team athleticism.  Last years team won on defense with a horrible offense, this years team wins on offense with a horrible defense.

Point 3: What does this have to do with this years team? (he said again)

Point 4: Here is where you go off the rails.  What you are describing has nothing to do with this years team on offense.  Nothing.  Yet you keep repeating it and complaining when it is pointed out as a moronic observation (based on not watching the games is one thing, but I posted the offensive rankings early in the thread).  Perhaps is you stopped arguing about this teams lack of athleticism by using different teams as your evidence, perhaps you wouldn’t get this treatment.

Point 5: So you base your assessment of this team on your observation of other players (I don’t have enough facepalms).  Same question I asked tequila monster, who on this team do you feel lacks the athleticism necessary to be successful in the NCAA?

You don’t have an answer because you don’t know the players, and you are still comfortable commenting on the lack of athleticism based on the players you don’t know and are equally unwilling to examine the evidence, which even if you can’t watch the games, you can still dig up the numbers.  Perhaps check to see offensive efficiency (12th in the nation, 2nd in the big ten) which will give you an idea how well a team scores when they have the ball (in my opinion, doesn’t matter if they do that 10 seconds into the shot clock, or with 10 seconds left in the shot clock).  Now perhaps you could assume they are this adept at scoring, but with a bunch of plodding set shooters.  You’d be wrong.

Again.   Name the non-athletes.  That would be fun.

If Bo can just get these guys to play defense with a bit more intensity (like they did yesterday), then I think they will bounce back and compete for the Big Ten title.  Although Michigan does look unstoppable, anything can still happen.

I think some teams think the Badgers are "soft" on Defense and tend to go balls out to the hoop knowing they can't be stopped.  Maybe a few "Dennis Johnson forearms" to the head (ala John Lucas) then some of these scatty point guards wouldn't be so loose to drive to the hoop all the time.

just sayin'
