The thing I like best about watching Badger basketball is the way that most players in Ryan's program improve from year to year. Jordan Taylor, Alando Tucker, Mike Wilkinson, etc.

No one has demonstrated this better than Frank Kaminsky. When I saw him play as a freshman, it looked like it was completely wasted scholarship. Now, he may end up being an NBA prospect as a backup big man. The improvement in his footwork is nothing short of astonishing.

I can't wait to see what Nigel Hayes will look like in a couple of years after working with this staff.

No matter what the result is in the tournament this year, it's nice to watch a team that's based on developing talent with college guys who probably actually go to class and make academic progress. I'd rather watch this than get guys like Kevin Looney. Maybe I'm in the minority, but I love seeing guys get coached up rather than cheer for "one and doners."

Both SMU and UWGB got hosed but it happens every year

I'd rather see one of those teams play than the 6th or 7th best team in a major conference (like NC State or Iowa)

UWGB beat Virginia and Tulsa, and nearly beat the Badgers.  They also played and lost to Harvard.  Overall RPI was around 50.  Bottom line, while they should have won the Horizon League Tournament I don't know what else a team like that can do.  They played a tough non-conference schedule.

I think NCSU deserved it much more than IOWA and SMU.
SMU SOS was over 300 and they lost to Houston in their Conf tourney to end their season with 3 straight losses. SMU had 3 really bad losses that were far worse than anything we suffered,

NCSU strentgh of schedule was strong (33), playing @ Cincy, @ Tenn (win), Missouri and a strong ACC slate. yeah we lost to NCCU but they are a tourney team, We have the ACC POY which never hurts. We having a winning road record. We beat Syracuse from start to finish in the ACCt (shouldve beat them at SYR due to bad call in OT when they were #1), played Duke Toe to toe and won at PITT.

not sure about UWGB. I know the win over UVa was early in the season so not as fresh on peoples mind. and with a gaudy record but RPI still over 50 probably means they had alot of cupcakes. still woulda liked to see them get in over Iowa.

Strength of schedule, road record and recent success all favored the Pack.
but dont let that get in the way of a " OMG we got slighted!!11" news story

Take with a grain of salt:  ........

The NCAA tournament never fails to deliver with surprises, evidenced by Florida Gulf Coast's storybook run to the Sweet 16 in last year's Big Dance.

...... Here's a look at the favorites to become NCAA tourney darlings in this year's tournament, ranked based on Cinderella potential and their second-round matchup.

....... 12. American: The Eagles are one of the best shooting teams in the country statistically, making 50% of their shots. American's potent offense features four players averaging double-figures. It starts with sophomore guard Jesse Reed, who averages 13.9 points a game.

GO BADGERS GO.

Bracket Briefing: Spotlighting 20 Cinderellas in the NCAA tournament

It isn't teams that can shoot that scare me with UW- it's teams that can drive the ball into the lane. The Badhers' interior defense has left something to be desired all season- their help and on-ball D has been shaky in several points of the season. They're small, too- Brust 6'1", Gasser 6'3", Jackson 6'2"... running a 3G offense is usually a lot better with Gs that are 6'4", 6'5", or so.

But I still have them in the Final Four. The 3G lineup needs to step up, take care if the ball, and make their shots. And I think they can shore up these weaknesses with improved effort. They've done it at times, they can do it again.
