On Wednesday Justin Verlander pitched a complete game. 2 hits, 0 walks, 11 strikeouts. Only 2 hits he gave up were solo HRs. Loses 2-1.  That's WILD.

But, then I started looking more at Verlander's season.

In 178 innings, 15-5, 2.77 ERA, .806 WHIP, 110 hits.

On the season he has given up 55 Earned Runs.

Opponents have scored 40 of those 55 earned runs on on Home Runs.

Meaning, opponents have scored 15 earned runs outside of Home Runs.

I'm worried about Khris Davis since his BA is only .218.  If you play fantasy baseball, pick him up because he is about to get hot.

I'm guessing you're referring to what is one of the craziest stats I've ever seen. This is the fact that Khris Davis has ended each of the last 4 seasons hitting 247.

I agree with Blair about the baseball.

Josh Hader has given up 19 earned runs this year in 56 innings. 17 of the 19 earned runs have been on home runs (I think 10 of the 13 have been solo HRs). 2 earned runs in 56 innings outside of home runs is even more impressive than Verlander.

Only 4 times* in the history of MLB has a player had both an

OBP of <=.300
SLG of >=.500

  • Dave Kingman in 1976 with a 238/286/506/793
  • Tony Armas in 1984 268/300/531/831
  • Mike Jacobs in 2008 247/299/514/813
  • Rougned Odor in 2016 271/296/502/798

In 2019, there are 2 players close to joining that group

  • Franmil Reyes 241/295/513/808
  • Hunter Renfro 230/295/522/817

My god is Verlander having a year. No Hitter with 1 BB, 14 K.

He's 17-5 and 3 of his losses were when he gave up 1, 2, and 2 runs.

The fact that Gerrit Cole is not the best pitcher on this staff (and arguably may be the third best with Greinke on board) is ridiculous.

How did they acquire all this pitching talent?

Prior to Tuesday night...

The New York Mets franchise had a record of 806-0 entering the 9th inning with a 6+ run lead

The Washington Nationals franchise had a record of 0-775 when entering the 9th inning losing by 6+ runs

Baseball is stupid and wonderful

There have been two players in Major League Baseball history to hit a home run, play center field and earn the win as a pitcher in the same game. Babe Ruth was the first on June 13, 1921.

Milwaukee has played 12 months at a winning percentage of >.700. 5 of those months were in September.  Best month, by far is April of 1987 when they went 18-3, a .857 clip.

Milwaukee has 2 years where they played >.500 every month of that year. Without googling (scouts honor), what are those 2 years?

I googled “scouts honor”, I don’t get what it has to do with Brewer winning percentage.

The vaunted Cardinals -- the first 3 games scored a grand total of 2 runs in the NLCS.

Kinda tough to win if you don't score.

But hey....they broke through for 4 runs tonight.

Only problem is TOUCHDOWN Nationals!! IN THE first inning.

Bye bye Cardinals....we hardly knew ye.

The Cardinals left with a whimper.  What a pathetic showing against the Nationals.  Couldn’t have happened to a better team and more deserving fanbase.

It’s amazing how close Washington was to getting eliminated by the Brewers and now they are headed to the WS.

I don't follow MLB and only peek in on MIL from time to time.

Was the WC game indicative of MIL's strength, that if they had beat WAS they were capable of beating STL or would that have just been a bad matchup for them?

Not sure it's indicative of anything to be honest. Milwaukee could have been swept by the Dodgers. Could have gone 5, who knows.

I think Washington has WAY better starting pitching that that is gonna give them a shot every series.

And, while I'm still not over that loss, this Nats team is a helluva lot of fun. A Nats Stros series would be wonderful because I'd simply be rooting for great games and would be happy for whoever wins.

I hate the the Yankees and would be 100% in the Nats corner. But even there, the Yankees team itself kinda is fun ain't it? I just loathe that franchise so damn much...

A one and done game to me favors a team like the 2019 Brewers because you only have to beat that team once.  The Brewers got to Scherzer early and put them in a position to win.  Over the course of a 5 or 7 game series the talent disparity (especially starting pitching) would show up.   And I agree- Washington is loaded in that regard.

That’s what is so silly about STL complaining about the so called “dead ball” concept.  Scherzer and Strasburg and Corbin are all top flight pitchers and even on a good day it’s not like you are going to light them up.

You know damn well the Dodgers got discouraged when they drew the Nats instead of the Brewers.  The Nationals were the one team that could go toe to toe with LA on starting pitching and their offense is really underrated.

There's a small part of me that wants the Yankees in the WS just to have someone to root against.  I don't hate either the Astros or the Nats.  I'd probably root for Astros over Nats just to get a little revenge on Nats for knocking the Crew out, but I'd at least be somewhat happy for either Astros or Nats to win it all.

Who are Hall of Famers?

A: 275/358/465/823; 117 OPS+

B: 283/341/492/833; 115 OPS+

C: 268/342/475/818; 115 OPS+

D: 310/377/440/817; 115 OPS+

E: 285/342/430/772; 115 OPS+

F: 285/344/452/795; 114 OPS+

G: 293/406/537/943; 144 OPS+

I'd be a G man, but he had to be a Cardinal for a couple seasons so I hate him.

A is not a HOF

B Does 3 years a Brewer beat 9 years a Cub?

C. Was not ever on my radar for HOF.

D. He had a positive UZR in 2009

E. This kid might belong in the HOF

F. I prefer Jim Gantner

OK, I loved watching G play.  He at least belongs in the conversation.

I just for the life of me CANNOT fathom how Lance Berkman got 5 votes.  5.

He's superior on all the advanced stats to Harold Baines, who the veterans committee somehow voted in last year.
