Come on man... "Good authority"? Name your source if they're going to say stuff like this.

Never mind the fact that its June, and there's no benefit to cutting him at this stage before cutdowns in camp (IOW they would let him try to participate in camp before cutting for a failed physical), it contradicts everything the Coaching Staff has said about their expectations.

Unless he got into a DUI or something that would upset management, and even then it's a stupid idea to cut him in June. nothing of the sort has been reported anyway.

You might want to think about that before you post info your sources "tell you on good authority"...

I bet it was Steve - he's the guy who got all 32 of his mock picks correct in the recent draft. El Ka Bong knows him; and he's rarely wrong on his insider stuff. You can look it up
Oh my.

@jasonjwilde: According to NFL source, barring a contract restructure or trade, Packers will be parting ways with ILB Desmond Bishop. (posted at 9:35 PM EST tonight)

@jasonjwilde: Bishop signed a four-year, $19 million extension in January 2011. His 2013 base salary is $3.464M.

EDIT: Wilde has a story up now (link), not much more in details.

Bet it was Patti - and we all know her(?) track record.

Or it could be a guy DocBenni knows who talked with his hair stylist, who has a paperboy, whose father works as a used car sales man, who met a guy from Green Bay, who has a neighbor, who knows a co-worker who is friends with a Packer employee who knows one of the Packer trainers who told him that "Bishop is going out .....". Only he meant that he was going out for food.

WHY?? Confused
Jason Wilde ‏@jasonjwilde 3m
If you're @Desbishop55, would you take a restructured deal? I wouldn't. He believes he's healthy and can play at a high level.

That's going to be the hang up. Bishop thinks he's ready to go. GB doesn't.

Why let DJ Smith go knowing this might end up going down?
I don't get it either....

My only guess is that they feel good enough with Manning to have him step up.

DJ always looked a bit small and when he finally got again the big boys, he didn't cut it.

I still don't understand! In TT and KG I trust.
If he's not healthy then they don't need to keep him. His cap # is 4.7 this year and 4.8 next year, they'll be on the hook for that if he has to go on the PUP or pops another hammy. Love the player and I would rather have a healthy Bishop than Hawk, but it's bad business to pay that much for an injured player.
Not a fan of the ILB starters being Hawk and Jones. Those aren't the impact LBers you want in a 3-4 D. Jones isn't physical enough and Hawk doesn't bring any impact anywhere. He's just sort of there and healthy which has been his biggest strength
This rookie they brought in reminds me a lot of a young Bishop actually. Looks like he could have a bright future. Don't forget Terrell Manning is also coming in 100% healthy and no sea monsters in his gut. He could be a factor on D this season. Clearly they feel confident in what they have that it's not worth paying Bish that much on the chance he returns to form.
Gonna take time for Barrington to develop. Manning will have to step up this year though, and hopefully he does. ILB just looks like the weakest area of the team right now on paper. No stand out presence in that group
I thought GB's strategy was to be more agressive & physical? Jones and Hawk in the middle will certainly have offensive coordinators losing sleep. You have no idea what you're getting in Manning as well as any rookie. I can hear it already. "We'll bring {insert name} along slowly and you have to remember he is in a new environment. They'll be growing pains."

It seems Bishop has been fighting to prove himself his entire career in GB. And when it appeared he got there he gets injured and soon to be ushered outta town. Frowner
Barring an unknown savior in the form of Manning or someone else, the ILBs will suck ass again next year without Bishop (and you just know some good team like the Giants, 49ers or Ravens will snatch him up if the team is dumb enough to do this). Really hoping that improvements from the rest of the defense will cover up Hawk and Jones (how the hell do those stiffs deserve a paycheck when Bishop doesn't? He's better on one leg than they are when 100% healthy), but I'm not feeling like it will be enough. I'm just depressed right now with visions of Adrian Peterson and Colin Kaepernick running wild again.
@TyDunne: Just touched base with Desmond Bishop. Says he is "completely" healthy.

Hmmm. Well what else do you expect a guy looking for a team to say?

Hate to see him go. If he doesn't shoestring DeSean Jackson there ain't no ring.

More from Dunne:

@TyDunne: Also heard that Desmond Bishop did not fail a physical or any sort of test. Sounds like it's business-first move for the Packers right now.

@TyDunne: Bishop also indicated there's still a possibility he could be back with the Packers. Time will tell. There's a logjam.
If this is true, then they will be short an ass kicker on the ILB corps.

I would expect Bishop to hook on with someone else rather quickly, but we really won't know about the injury until they start playing games.

Headscratcher. Apparently TT looking forward and not backward.
Can't help but think this doesn't make all kinds of sense now. Bishop's name is nowhere in that post.

Best 11 on the field as much as possible to cause disruption and confusion.

And DocBenni...well done!

Concur.

A lot of people hate but nobody wants to congratulate.

Good job Doc!
Biggest part that I am bummed about...

The queens are looking hardcore for a starting inside linebacker.

I see no reason Bishop couldn't play in a 4-3, right now the queefs have nobody to do it.

Within a week he will be on their roster. I would put munny on it.

I WANT ANSWERS! YES, I'M TALKING TO YOU TWO!

Somebody must be standing out to the point where they're willing to play this game with Bishop. Maybe it's Manning, maybe it's someone else. Probably that and Bishop is healthy but never going to regain the step he may have lost with this. He didn't have a step to lose.

They're not just randomly deciding to mess with Bishop and shave a couple mil more off the cap. Not now. It makes no sense otherwise. Something is driving this. They have until September to cut him if all this is about is saving cap money. They must think he's either done or just never going to get back to what he was.
Bishop already wasn't a fast guy, maybe he got a lot slower. In terms of pure speed in the 40 yard dash, as hard as it may be to believe, AJ Hawk easily leaves him in the dust. The difference between the two is that Bishop is rarely out of position, and will never be knocked on his ass.

Couple of things- TT traded up for Terrell Manning, that says something
They also re-upped Francois who is a bigger guy
packers aren't messing around with injured players this year

and it's also is a part of the post I put up a few days ago on the nickel defense

There have been hints that GB will play more 3-3-5 instead of 2-4-5 and in that scenario, you'd only have 1 ILB on the field for 60-70% of the plays (if we use last year as an example)

And if you only have both ILBs on the field for 30% of the downs, then keeping 3 high- priced ILBs doesn't make sense. Bishop is an asset, but he is devalued if they implement changes to get more DL and less LBs on the field in nickel

there is also this interesting comment in the article about Robert Francois re-signing with GB in May

"Inside linebacker Robert Francois re-signed with the Green Bay Packers to a one-year deal Friday --- and his reasoning was simple. The team told Francois that he'd have every opportunity to start this upcoming season.

"That was the only reason we went back," said Francois' agent Noel LaMontagne. "Rob wanted the assurances that that'd be a part of him coming back there. They see it that way from the top of the building all the way down."

I hope he re-does his deal and comes back and fights for a spot in GB, the guy made plays
Let's not rule out that the motivation to shave more off the cap is because they're about to toss some coin at a couple of guys. Raji and Shields come to mind. I still don't think they'd do this if they didn't think Bishop was legitimately diminished physically, but they do have some guys to sign and it wouldn't be dum to get that business done before camp starts.

I'd think that's highly unlikely. He's always been pissed off at his lot in the league, and he'll take this as an insult. He'll more importantly probably get more from someone else than what GB is offering. If all this is true, then he's not coming back IMO.
