MM is too nice for NY. Yes, he'd get to work with Darnold, but the NY press and expectations would be onerous. But, if MM hires an innovative OC and stops running the offense himself so he can concentrate on Darnold and the team as a whole, I think he would be very successful. It's something he should have done a long time ago in GB.

Tom Clements.

Hmmm... he was a QB guy mostly. And where is he coaching today?

Not the year McVince decided to give the defensive side of the ball "more attention" because of another epic Wizard fail.  Clements was OC and the offense took a freakin' header.

I'm simply saying McVince's biggest challenge is being able to assemble a competent staff.  People get verklempt over his playcalling when that wasn't what was killing the team.  I thought he was going to take the leap that year and become a complete HC, didn't happen.

Yeah, the crazy thing was the assistant turnover on the staff was significant, just not the right guys.

I think McVince can be successful again but he probably needs a bit of a philosophical overhaul.  I would think he'd be more open to different voices and I would surely hope his offensive scheme morphs.  He's Andy Reid.  A new start will be good.

I think sone of yā€™all Are getting a little over your skis with this idea that McCarthy is some moron who wonā€™t get a job again in the NFL. Shit didnā€™t work out in GB- yes. But for a decade this guy has been one of the more respected coaches in the NFL. That doesnā€™t just go away. His rift with Rodgers cost him his job. Thatā€™s all that needs to be said about his demise in Green Bay.

The rift wasn't a rift; it was an abyss. And it was caused by two things: 1) MM going stale. What he did worked for about eight years, but he never adjusted when the rest of the league moved on and the last five years or so were agonizing. 2) Rodgers getting a little too big-headed. As great as he is, Rodgers needs to realize that shorter throws to checkdowns or underneath patterns are not "easy" plays; they are smart ones when other options don't exist or to back off the rush.

In essence, we saw what can happen when shorter routes and checkdowns are used because Kizer did that early in the last game; he got rid of the ball quicker and it helped. Unfortunately, Kizer can't hit the longer throw and isn't so hot on the shorter ones all the time either. If Rodgers mixes in underneath throws, the long ones will be there.

I live near Cincy and at first all the Bengals fans here at work were cheering.  But now they are worried they will hire Hue Jackson.  I can't say I blame them for worrying about that.

The #Bengals are expected to interview assistant Hue Jackson for their vacant head-coaching job, an interview that could happen as early as today, source said. Makes sense, as Marvin Lewis endorsed him. In-house candidates Darrin Simmons & Bill Lazor previously interviewed.

But wait! I thought the guy they put in place (Stephanski?) was supposed to be ā€œthe oneā€ who they held on to for just this position, even though his contract is up. Or did that last game convince Spielman/Zim that heā€™s not the offensive savant? Or maybe he doesnā€™t want to stay with a staaaacked team?  šŸ¤£

Zim panicked after they tied GB. He dumped the kicker the next day and all Carlson has done on the season is hit 81% of his kicks at 17/21 (16/17 for 94% since joining Oakland), and who was perfect in his last eight games (15/15 with three 50-yarders and three more of 45 or more). Instead, he picks up a guy who hit 75% (21/28).

Zim also has gone through his fourth OC in four years, and all he wants to do in todayā€™s NFL is run the ball. Not exactly a success in todayā€™s NFL.

So go and waste a team's time and money when you have zero intention of considering the job? Me thinks he displayed 'good etiquette' by refusing.

Also, considering what a tight wad Brown is, he likely has a higher regard for JMcD nowā€¦

Agree with McD not going if he's not interested. If a team offered him to become coach and he turned it down, it would only add to his reputation of interviewing and refusing.

Funny thing about Mike Brown and being a tightwad.  He is notorious for being so cheap with everything but himself.  Every year he gives himself a $1M bonus for being the president/GM of the team.  Yep Brown gives himself that for a job well done.

I don't recall if I've heard of candidates passing on interview requests for HC before.  McD might have a good excuse with still preparing for the playoffs but it would seem "good etiquette" to accept any HC invite.  Especially with his recent history.

Uhm no...it means McD is the guy in GB.

I'll bet he is writing his mission statement right now.

This should be good.

I like McDaniels and Campbell.  My money is on McDaniels though.  I think he hits most on what GB is looking for... assuming I know WTF they're looking for, which I don't, so there's that.
