Yes, but what do you do with Cam? Can't pass and read defenses all that well, runs well but then risks injury, he can be hot and cold as a QB, etc. It's hard to be an OC with that type of QB. If anything, it's on the QB coach to make Cam be better.

Cam has shown the ability to be a successful passer, he just can't maintain any kind of consistency.  His other problem is he still doesn't have the required QB 6th sense of knowing when to turtle up to protect yourself when running or even escaping pressure.  He still thinks like a runner and he took another nasty face-on hit this last weekend because of it.  He's another fence sitter QB that is too good to move on from and not good enough to count on to win games on a regular basis.

Actually, that big hit was him trying to escape the pass rush. He spun away from one guy, then was dump-trucked by #93 the instant he shook loose from that initial guy. It was a beautiful sight!

But I agree with your points. Cam reminds me of other QBs who are going to do it their way, regardless of what the coaches are trying to teach him. His biggest skill is masking his deficiencies with his size and athleticism. JMHO.

Seattle fans have been blaming Bevell for their troubles for about 3 years now.

It wouldn't have anything to do with their bull$hit O-Line. Nahhh. That couldn't have been it.

What? Never rooted for ALS before?

From Packers' Wire:

McCarthy and Cignetti go way back.  Both are natives of Pittsburgh.

The two were both graduate coaches at Pittsburgh in 1989. Later, Cignetti served two years as the quarterbacks coach in New Orleans (2000-01) while McCarthy was the offensive coordinator.

Well, it sounds like Cig had some success coaching Manning in 2016 and had some success as the QB coach for Bradford, Davis, and Hill from 2012-14.  I don't think he was successful as the OC in 2015 (although they had a good rushing attack).

Let's be honest: he's never coached a QB with talent anywhere close to that of Rodgers.  So if he can be fairly successful with players with far less talent, perhaps he can have success with #12.

I wonder if Rodgers had any say in this hiring.

I think he never learned how to "turtle up" because he was almost always bigger than every LB and DB he played in college (and in the NFL). Heck, he's 6'6", 260 - he was the same size as most DEs he played against.

I think he's much better than a fence sitter at QB. Yes, he's been supported by a great defense at times, but he led Carolina to a 15-1 record 2 years ago. Greg Olsen is great, but 2 years ago his receivers (Funchess, Ginn) were pedestrian.

Who'd you rather have than Cam? Rodgers, Brady, Roethlisberger, Brees for sure, but then who? Maybe Wentz, but I'd rather have Cam than Prescott, Stafford, Rivers, Carr, Wilson, Keenum, Ryan, or Cousins.

His main job will probably be to make sure that the backup QB can come in and execute a game plan beyond being able to throw the ball to the first read.

I think most of us on this board would have success being Rodgers' QB coach if we were going to be judged by how good Rodgers' looks.

I like how they frame it that he was the main reason Eli had such a good year. Their is a much simpler explanation that correlates with for Eli's had off and on success the last 5 years.

2013 - QBR 69.4

2014- QBR 92.1

2015 - QBR 93.6

2016 - QBR 86.0

2017 - QBR 80.4

Odell Beckham Jr. was a rookie with the Giants in 2014 and missed most of 2017. That's the correlation. Beckham may be a prima donna in the Randy Moss/TO mold, but he also caught 35 of Eli's 91 TDs in 2014-16.

Depends on what you think Cam is today and will be tomorrow.  Is he the 15-1 guy or the most recent incarnation that includes all the concussions, reported and unreported?  And his drop in success as a passer?  I don't care why he doesn't protect himself, he just doesn't and that's going to limit his longevity/effectiveness.  In addition, I would take Wilson, Ryan and definitely Wentz, maybe even Goff.  Prescott - I'd like to see how he counters the way defenses countered him this year.  We'll also see if Carr's 2017 or 2016 seasons were a better indicator of his ability.  We'll see what Keenum really is in the next 3 weeks.
