But regardless, this program needs stability.

Barry is 67

I was wrong on that, he was waiting for his delayed plane out of NY and wanted to find out what was so urgent.  They talked face to face briefly when he arrived in Madison.

It would be interesting if Chryst was the guy.  When Bielema left and Anderson was hired, Alvarez was asked about Chryst.  He said he never approached Chryst because he had so highly recommended him to the Pitt administrators, that he thought it would be totally inappropriate to turn around and hire Chryst away from them after only a year.  It will be interesting to see if Alvarez feels any differently now that three years have passed.

Willie Taggart (head coach at South Florida) had been interviewed by Wisconsin but he grabbed the South Florida job before Anderson was hired.  He had to rebuild a dying program and in year one under Taggart they went 2-10 and then improved to 4-8 this year.  One thing for sure is that team did not roll over for Wisconsin when they came to Camp Randall this year.  That two year record isn't impressive but he did inherit a bad situation and before that he did a pretty damn good job at Western Kentucky (probably were the worst 1A team when he took over and he had them in a bowl game in his third year there).

The other heavily rumored name the last time around was Bear Defensive Coordinator Mel Tucker.

Chyrst is so damn interesting though, not only because of his history with the Badgers, but also his coaching staff's history with the Badgers.  Just check out some of the coaches on Pitt's staff:

-Joe Rudolph - Assistant Head Coach/Offensive Coordinator/Tight Ends

-Jim Hueber - Offensive Line

-John Palermo - Defensive Ends

-John Settle - Running Backs

-Mickey Turner - Assistant Director of Player Development

-Taylor Mehlhaff - Special Teams Graduate Assistant

-Jon Budmayr - Offensive Graduate Assistant

-Ross Kolodziej - Head Strength and Conditioning Coach

-Brain Calhoun - Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach

-Bill Nagy - Strength and Conditioning Graduate Assistant

That was my first thought...Andersen must not have enjoyed working under Barry very much.

Not a chance...although it would be kind of funny to see the reaction from Ann Arbor if it did happen.

Harbaugh would be okay, for probably 3-5 years. Then the alum would ship his arse out of town unless they are perennial top 5-8.

Chryst makes all the sense, and after being gone for 2 years Alvy wouldn't have to explain to Pitt about taking him back/away from them.

I hope Barry doesn't really limit this search to only guys with head coaching experience.  Two of the best assistant coach candidates are right here in the Big Ten....Michigan State defensive coordinator Pat Narduzzi and Ohio State offensive coordinator Tom Herman.

"Do you plan on leaving anytime soon" "Absolutely not, this is the place I want to be". A conversation I had a couple weeks ago. Smh

Haha but the fact I first found out from a coach of another staff....

Chryst makes the most sense and I wanted him prior to Anderson.

GA just never seemed comfortable and I am glad he accepted a lesser job and moved on.  Good riddance.  Win win all around.

As for Alvarez- yes he is a complete egomaniac and a bit of a Richard but I am not sure he orchestrated anything here.  Anderson was just not the right fit pure and simple

Not really that sorry to see Gary Anderson leave.

I had concerns about his plan to install a spread offense at UW, as well as his desire to field a running QB come hell or high water.  He brought a JC transfer with him in his first year who failed to pan out, then decided McElvoy was just the man for the job.

Still too soon for me to judge him as a recruiter, but the QB and WR pipelines appear to be empty.  In fairness tho, Jared Abbrederis was the only top flight wideout to come through the system in the last several years, and he was a walk-on.

Really like Dave Aranda.  If the Badgers can keep him as DC that will be a nice legacy Anderson has left us with.

If staff pay is an issue then Anderson picked the wrong school to go to.  Last year Wisconsin assistant coaches were paid $2,368,600, Oregon State's assistant coaches were paid $2,347,200.  Oregon State are a lower level program in their conference and they play in a rinky-dink stadium (capacity only around 45,000).  They may have made a bunch of financial promises to Anderson but it remains to be seen if they will be able to deliver.

Admissions appear to be another matter.  CNN did a survey after the North Carolina scandal regarding football programs and academics.  According to them, of the 143 players Wisconsin admitted between 2007 and 2012, only 3 scored below literacy levels (2%).  On the other hand, Oregon State had 76 special admits from 2008-2012.  Clearly the admissions between these two schools are worlds apart when it comes to football players.

Yes, he is listed as Offensive Coordinator/Quarterback Coach on Ohio State's website.  Looking through his background it appears that he has mainly coached quarterbacks and wide receivers.

Also worth noting that Chris Ash (Co-Defensive Coordinator/Safeties Coach) is on Ohio State's staff.  I wouldn't be surprised if Alvarez thought about him.  He seemed to be pretty well respected when he was in Madison.  Probably gained some extra points after he bailed on Bielema and Arkansas after one season and came back to the Big 10.
