Ugh. 3 runs may as well be 10 with this offense.
welp, time to pull out the Bucks run on DVD , hope the crew finds some bats somewhere and also hope Rodgers and the Pack have a late season run.
tough end to a really fun summer likely ends tomorrow

They'll be lucky to score 3 runs the rest of this series.
If you are going to get beat, you need to get beat by maximizing the number of innings you get from Burnes, Woodruff, Peralta, and Hader.
I'm still amazed at CC panicking and removing Peralta for a pinch hitter with ONE out and two guys on. It's the 5th inning in a scoreless game. He managed like it was 2 out and the 7th inning.
Yeah MP2 the more I think about it you're absolutely right - being the 5th inning is the big kicker in the decision he made.
Also, I know as a runner if you don't go right away don't go at all, but on Cain's grounder I wish Urias had a jump like he did when he got thrown out the next AB. Swanson diving for the grounder would have made the play at the plate much harder instead of the high chopper to 3rd.

The Brewers "finding" a bat really comes down to which version of Yelich is the "real" one. Is he the guy who looked like a future Hall of Famer in 2018-19 or the slap hitter Jim Gantner type in 2020-21?
7 years and 186 million dollars. They budgeted for him to be good. He doesn't have to be a Hall of Fame level player, but he has to at least be a guy that you have to consider pitching around. He should be a #8 hitter right now. He's had 4 extra-base hits in this last 104 at-bats. He's had 1 HR in his last 140 at-bats. Other than a 2 HR game in August, he's hit 1 HR in his last 73 games. He still plays hard and works counts, but if 2018-19 was a flash in the pan for whatever reason, his contract may go down as one of the worst contracts in MLB history. Hopefully, his struggles this year are because of injury, but if they are CC has committed managerial malpractice continuing to hit him 3rd in the order.

There was no reason to extend Yelich when they did and now they are going to have to live with it.
Need some major MKE mojo now. Do they have it in them? Weβll see
What have you done for me lately?
Just a pathetic offensive showing against a team with good, but not great, pitching. Every Braves pitcher looks like 1999 Pedro Martinez.
All sports are games of momentum.
Brewers lost that a month or so ago.
Brewers starting pitching in this series:
16 innings, 3 runs, 10 hits, 18 strikeouts, 4 walks.
1.68 ERA, 0.88 WHIP
0-1 with two no-decisions.
2 on, down 3, 8th inning. Facing a right-hander.
And we get Yelich in a situation where he can completely change a series. Can he do it?
Killer

Unfucking believable.
Yelich is almost useless at the plate.
Why do you bat him 3rd? Why?
Can they give Yelich away for a utility infielder in the offseason if they get someone to pick up that gigantic salary? Maybe the Yankees will bite?

I get that with his contract he gets an oversized share of criticism, but the entire team has been shit for more than a month on offense.
Give credit to the Braves. They are stepping up and making the key pitches and getting the key hits.
Itβs hard to believe Yelich won an MVP. He looks like a role player right now. Good thing the Brewers gave him a monster contract. JFC.
Cousins ERA since September 1st is 9.00.
It's too bad we didn't have better starting pitching to eat up some of these innings and keep the game close.
Counsell is going to have to explain pulling Peralta when he did. Houser has been pretty good, but Peralta was dealing. Only thing he may be thinking is having him if this goes 5 games. Got to get there first skipper.

There's a reason you pay him the money he's gotten. With that contract, he deserves an oversized share of criticism.
He's become Jim Gantner. If he was making 3 million a year, that's fine, but he's not.
He has two opposite-field slap hits in 11 at-bats this series. Yes, the entire offense has sucked, but he's supposed to be better than the other guys. He has 4 extra-base hits in about his last 40 games.
Maybe he's still having back problems, but why do you continue to bat him third in the lineup then.
16 for 88. 3 doubles, 1 HR, 4 walks, 2 HBPs.
250 SLG
234 OBP
484 OPS
1 swing from being blanked over 3 games.
Iβd take Gumby in the 3rd spot.
35 strikeouts in 3 games.

I think you have to look at his years prior to judge this. And it's becoming more clear that 2018 and 2019 were total aberrations.
OPS 2013 - 2017 of .800
OPS 2020 - 2021 of .752
2018-2019 were the outliers.
I think there's an argument to be had that the 18 (Aguilar, Braun, Shaw, Cain) and 19 (Grandal, Braun, Moose, Thames) Yelich was surrounded by at least some decent offense outside him.
In 20? No one. In 2021 Adames obviously but no one else outside of him was even an .800 OPS guy.
Or he roided up until he got the contract, and then decided to not take the risk anymore.
He's sucked compared to 18 and 19, and especially to that contract, but he's actually been about what he was 2013-2017.
We were lucky to win Game 1 to be honest.
Get βem tomorrow.
Itβs just entertainment .
This has the feel of a series where Burnes will struggle pitching on short rest for the first time all year in Game 4 and the Brewers will get blown out early and give up.
A lot of pressure on Burnes to keep them in this tomorrow.
I say to hell with it at this point land start relying on home runs
@The Crusher posted:We were lucky to win Game 1 to be honest.
Atlanta was lucky to win today using this logic that one HR that provides the entire scoring is lucky.

I've been thinking that too (PEDs), but haven't wanted to admit to myself.
He's still fast, but 2018-19 were the only years of his career with power. He hit 80 HRs in 1,063 at-bats in those two years. He's hit 80 HRs in the other 3,077 at-bats in his career which is roughly 6 full seasons of at-bats (13 HRs per year).
It reeks of 1996 Brady Anderson where an otherwise slightly above average player with some speed and gap-type doubles power exploded for a huge power season and then immediately reverted to the mean. In retrospect, we know Anderson roided up that year.

Well, now they need to pull out all the stops and hope that Burnes is his normal dominant self on 3 days rest. Counsell can also use Woodruff if need be. Itβs win or go home now.
Atlanta won today pretty much like Milwaukee did in game 1.
Given the way the bats have been silent I see no reason for hope other than they canβt possibly go 4 games in a row without hitting can they?
Won't be Burnes tomorrow.
Not sure there's an easy answer. I'd start him, but...
Obviously we need to sign Joc this off-season and watch him hit .210 next year
Yeahβ¦ elephant in the room is Yelichβ¦ you go from MVP to Craig Counsell thereβs plenty of eyebrows raised, and rightfully so.

Tom Verducci did go in that direction a few years ago.

Hmmmmm, it eerily coincides with Braun not being in the dugout.
Listened to the game at work. Looking at the box score it seems as tho most hitters lost their patience when batting with runners on base. You need to work the count in your faver in those situations. I think CC was right to pinch hit for Freddie. A couple of runs there may have turned the series around. Almost every manager in MLB would have done the same thing. The only thing I disagree with was using Vogelbach. I think I would have sent Peterson up there.
Wonβt be Burnes tomorrow? Oh OK then. Heβs only like your best player. A top 3 starter in the whole game.
This one is over. But at least Lauer gets the start.
JFC has Counsell lost his goddamn mind? Is he channeling his best MLF impression?
Iβm known to put down some dough from time to time and much respect to Boris but honestly mortgage the fucking ranch on the Braves tomorrow if Lauer is starting.
The Brewers were even in the series 1-1 and had guys on 2nd and 3rd today with nobody out in the top of the 5th of a scoreless game. They pulled Peralta on 57 pitches one batter later. Burnes threw 91 pitches on Friday, Woodruff had 91 on Saturday, and Hader had 20 on Friday.
They might lose the series without Burnes, Woodruff, Peralta, or Hader throwing another pitch.
Itβs really stupid
Lauer overachieved but is going to get worked if he faces the Braves as a starter.
Burnes, Woodruff, and Peralta were well under 3 ERA.
