We win today.
Here's what you do. Start Lauer (already announced) and don't let any pitcher bat until you get some kind of run production.
Say they somehow get a run or two on the board within the first 3 innings. The first time Lauer has an AB you pull him and bring in Burnes to pitch at least to the 9th. If you win, Woodruff in game 5.
If you're resting Burnes to pitch a game 5 - which thinking more about it I agree with - then you rest him to be the man game 5.
I think you go Lauer as long as he's doing well and you have Box, Strickland, Ashby, Hader for ~2 innings each if needed.
And then you come back with your ace on full rest in game 5 vs Fried with only 4 days rest.
None of it matters without some offense, but you gotta win both, and I want a full strength Burnes in game 5.
To me itβs paramount to get a couple of early runs, get something going. Get some confidence.
Braves Lead off hitter Jorge Solar was removed from the roster after he tested positive for COVID-19.
Braves go with Morton on 3 days rest, Brewers decide not to pitch their ace on 3 days rest. Time to see who is smarter.
When you have a choice between a pitcher who's had a Pedro/1999 historically great type of year, you wouldn't want him out there at 85% instead of having your #4 starter in an elimination game?
This is even more asinine when you consider that both Burnes and Woodruff would be on regular rest for Game 5. In other words, it's not like you'd be throwing chopped liver out there in Game 5 if you moved Burnes up. Not to mention you have Peralta on 3 days rest for Game 5 after only 57 pitches yesterday.

βThey came to me the next day and said, βWeβre fine for it if it lines up, but you have to be 100 percent full-go ready to go.β And just as the last couple of days have transpired, I didnβt recover the way I want to,β Burnes said. βIt was a matter of, 'Do I want to go out there at 80-85 percent versus having Lauer full-go and fully rested?'
βIt came down to the decision that they felt better with Lauer being 100 percent and a bullpen ready to go, and then me being 100 percent ready for Game 5.β
Burnes added: βI told them, βHey, Iβm good to go out there.β They said, βIs it 100 percent?β I said, βNot quite 100 percent, but I think I can give you a good outing.β The better, probably smarter option was to go with Lauer, who is 100 percent ready to go.β
I detect a pulse

I was listening to Uecker talking to Counsell in the Pre-Game Show. Counsell says Lauer "in his last 15 games has an ERA right around 2, as good as Corbin or Woody"... and "He's rested and ready."
Yelich is absolutely useless. Two guys on, nobody out, facing a right-hander and he can't even get a guy over to third.

Until Yelich came up.

May as well have the pitcher in the 3 spot
Basically, if Yelich would have even hit a ground ball to second or a fly ball to right field and avoided a double play, they'd have put up a run.
runners on 1st and 2nd no outs, Let Morton off the hook.
Tellez instead of Escobar based on one swing this series? Escobar was an all-star this season and Tellez hit 242

I'm sure opposing teams scouting reports show just as much respect for Lauer as they do for Burnes and Woodruff. Sure they do.
CC's lineup decisions today
1. Lauer instead of Burnes
2. Yelich batting third
3. Tellez instead of Escobar
Lauer gives up a leadoff double. Perfect.
Nice slide
Freeman shows that your high-paid superstar doesn't have to hit a home run to be effective. Just moving a guy over to third with one out is all Yelich had to do at a minimum.
Freeman is a high paid superstar, Yelli is high paid
Lauer gets out of it with no runs.
Braves cant score on a golden opportunity in the first, whew
Lucky us. A 1-0 deficit would have been basically game with how we're hitting.
Lots of empty seats in Atlanta today. At least so far.

What does respect have to do with anything?
Pinch hit for Lauer. We have a guy on. It doesn't happen that often.

I'm saying if you polled the opposing team and the scouts, I doubt a single person who would want to face Burnes over Lauer. You can argue the whole thing about 3 days rest, but Burnes may win the Cy Young this year (and will at least be top 4) and Lauer is a good, but not great, middle to back of the rotation starter.

Have you seen our pinch hitters?

Last 15 games Corbin Burnes ERA 2.34
Last 15 games Eric Lauer ERA 2.23
Those 1st 2 pitches to Yelich would ahve been driven to left field for doubles or even homers 2 years ago. Last 2 years, he watches them go by or weak grounders to 3rd.
Get a freakin hit nowβ¦..please
Urias looks like a right handed Craig Counsell at bat. here we go again, 2 on and 1 out. Can they make it happen?
ok here we go runners on 1st and 2nd one out.....
LEAD !!!!!!! 1-0 Brewers
ADIOS, C. Morton to the showers
Brewers offense gets off the schneid⦠need a big hit here to get the other 2 in.
Lo Cain can do it. Injured and all.
