I think you're spot on MP2.  From what I had heard in interviews etc, he just wasn't quite ready yet.   4 star or not, there's a bunch more to handle at the next level.

I am excited as anyone, but I also would rather it be 'the right time' than shatter his confidence.

I think you nailed it. However, I think it is the latter based on past history. We may be good with Coan but we'll never be great. Why not give Mertz a  chance.

It's not a question any of us can answer.  Apparently a bit more than otherwise.
