You have to love 14 play, 80 yard, 7:36 drives when you are down 38 points.

Of course, B. Allen had 12 touches on the drive. That seems absurd given the situation.
Braelon Allen in the wildcat for the rest of the season
Well ok then, Bucky gets crushed…….and my theory, Badgers lose, eh go the Packers.

We do what we do.

Where do you get the idea that PC knew all along that Mertz wasn’t the answer? I never got that impression or read anything about that.
Ammo must be related to Chryst.
Did you really think he would come out and say I made a mistake recruiting Mertz? Of course he wouldn't, but he should of known from practices Mertz was a flop. But nobody else was available by then. Sink or swim, we sank.
Chryst has no business being a big 10 coach.

Not even remotely. I think Chryst is doing a bad job too. But when you screwed up, then have a QB forced on you by fans, alumni and others (Barry?) what did you expect to happen. Time to tear the whole thing down. It could be a long painful rebuild but it has to happen.
Fucking announcers. Ohio state should be in sec

and you all knew I did change Coach Chryst’s diapers didn’t ya??? well didn’t change his dippers but I did babysit him and his older brother, sister, and younger brother. They didn’t like me as much as my sister she was their favorite. The Chryst family lived just 5 doors down from us in Madison. I was only their sitter once…….

Chryst isn't man enough to coach. Mertz should be bitch slapped to knock the stupid smile off his face. The problem I see is Mertz thinks he is good and no one tells him he sucks.
Braelon Allen piling up yards may be the only interesting thing that happens to this team the rest of the year.
B. Allen needs to hit transfer portal or go pro, wasting talent on this team.

I'm guessing that Mertz is not under the impression that every one thinks he is good.

and I just hope the Packers loss won’t be this embarrassing.

It's always a balance. The most important trait these guys have to have to be successful is self-confidence, but they also have to realize they need to continue to get better.
When Rodgers said stuff like he was going to make teams regret passing him up, he looked like an arrogant jerk, until he backed it up.

Mertz looks like he doesn't have a clue and tonight he seemed to be trying to throw the ball before the receiver was looking and missing badly. And then smiling and laughing on the sidelines. Just seems arrogant. The interception giving them the ball at the 15 was beyond comprehension.
Paul Chryst seems like a nice guy. In the past, he was a decent offensive mind and play caller. Had a lot of fingerprints on helping develop UW QBs.
Then he became a head coach. First at Pitt and later Wisconsin. He was basically a .500 guy at Pitt. He inherited a really good bunch of players at Wisconsin. The last 3 seasons he’s basically a .500 to slightly better than .500 coach. Basically Purdue.
Yeah, they can do better than Chryst.
@GBFanForLife posted:The problem I see is Mertz thinks he is good
No, the problem is back in 2019 and 2020 most thought Mertz was good to great. They were rong.
Sometimes I’m not sure if that’s Graham Mertz under center or Fred Mertz. (I guess you have to be pretty old like me to get that joke). Can’t figure out why they stick with him and why our OL isn’t up to our standards.

Coming into this year, I would not have agreed with you, but having attended the Washington State game and then seeing this debacle last night, I agree with you now.
The 2017 team was just fantastic, but you can make a case it was still quite a few players from previous coaching regimes that were the core. 5 years later, it’s clear the program has taken a solid step downwards in quality.
They definitely need to step up their player evaluation and recruiting game. They just aren’t anywhere close to what they were 5 years ago. Maybe a younger more dynamic coach could figure out a way to get the recruiting and player evaluation aspects of the program back on track.
Couldn't watch it live and didn't even bother taping it because this struck me as pretty inevitable. Apparently wasn't as close as the score indicates.
Stewed about this damn game in my sleep.
What an epic embarrassment. Teams like App State can go into Texas A&M and win and Middle Tennessee can go to Miami and win and our Big Ten caliber studs get run out to the stadium in Columbus?
Its not talent. It’s coaching and attitude. Time to move on.

Between Rodgers scowl and Mertz smile, Wisconsin football fan just cannot win the body language game
Chryst built up his gaudy record from previous players and regimes. He’s 12-18 now against ranked teams, but 2-10 in their last 12 games against such opponents. He’s also 0-4 against O$U.
Clearly, we’ve seen the best of Chryst at Wisconsin. And that’s simply not good enough. This isn’t Wisconsin 1992, when an 8-4 or 7-5 record would be considered successful to most fans.
Personally, I think he’s in way over his head as HC. Teams like Minnesota and Iowa have closed the gap and this team is basically a middle of the road BT team now.
What’s most startling about the demise is the lack of discipline and fundamentals in all phases of the game. Under his watch, they are averaging almost 5 penalties a game. They turn the ball over like crazy. The special teams have been a mess for years now. And where’s the Wisconsin identity and blueprint? The once heralded walk on program has taken a step back. The OL has been slightly above average for a while now. Yes, they are still able to RTFB, but that’s only because they’ve lucked out with JT and Allen. Without those two guys, the last 3-4 years would have been really bad.
I honestly don’t know where they go from here. In typical UW fashion, they will likely waste away another year and run the risk of Allen leaving because maybe PC can turn it around. Hint, he can’t.
There’s no shame in losing at Ohio State. But getting blown out and not even bothering to show up? Not acceptable. McIntosh should make the move and fire Chryst and promote JL immediately.

Ethel Mertz! Fred was better.
the writing was on the wall with mertz after last season. if they wanted to give him another chance to turn it around this year, fine. but you gotta have a backup plan. not developing a contingency plan over the offseason is professional malpractice. at this point the season looks pretty bleak. if they lose to illinois next week things will get ugly
and why aren’t all these highly touted olinemen getting it done?
@Jessie Clark posted:and why aren’t all these highly touted olinemen getting it done?
So as many of you know I am a UW fan trapped in OSU country. So with that I was of course the only UW fan at a gathering of 20 or so OSU fans. I am used to that now but they asked me the same question you did and that is it seems like the UW OL in recent years has been getting pushed around and they aren't getting it done. They also said that Mertz is so bad they were sure if they should laugh of feel bad for the UW team.
As for PC I like the guy and he seems like a great dude but I am starting to think that it could very well be time to make a change. I hate seeing anyone lose a job but the last few years is way under achieving for a team that should be way better than this.
I saw an amazing stat the other day from Jim Polzien of the Wisconsin State Journal.
Since that ill fated loss at Champaign in 2019, the Badgers are 19-13. If you pull out the Eastern Michigan win in 2021 and Illinois State and NM State wins this year that record is 16-13.
That’s basically a .500 stretch which is shocking when you consider they had JT for 8 of those games during the 2019 season when they went 4-4 in their final 8 games that year.
You might have to go back to the 1994-1996 seasons when they were 19-14-3 to see that type of mediocrity. The difference is they won the Rose Bowl in 1993 with a senior laden group. And that team had no long term success. Sure, the 2001-2003 teams weren’t very good either, but the 1998-2000 teams went 30-7 over that stretch with 2 Rose Bowl victories.
This team is trending in the wrong direction. If they somehow find a way to lose to Bert and Ilannoy this weekend I can’t imagine how bad things may get for this team.
