Just cut the stiff already.  CJ Wilson beating you like a drum on pass rush?  I wonder if it was reminiscent of his other ragdoll experiences.

Round 1 of Kicking Battles Won By ...

It’s one day, but the opening salvo of the Green Bay Packers’ kicking competition goes to Giorgio Tavecchio.

In the first of what figures to be many duels between Tavecchio and incumbent Mason Crosby during training camp, Tavecchio connected on 5-of-6 field goals compared to 4-of-6 for Crosby.

They both hit from 33 yards (right hash), 36 yards (left hash) and 44 yards (right hash). From 50 yards on the left hash, Crosby hit a low, line drive that missed to the left, with Tavecchio splitting the uprights. Both missed from 53 yards on the right hash, and they both made good on their second chance from that spot.

“It’s something we want to make sure we have plenty of information,” McCarthy said about increased reps in the kicking game. “I think that’s obvious, anytime you have two kickers, as opposed to one. When you have one kicker, you really worry about too many reps. So, that’s something you’ve got to be very conscientious of both with your punter and your kicker. So, just the reps will be higher this training camp than in past training camps.”

In a couple different places, perhaps one was National Football Post, the writer point Hyde out. The line the story writers took was Hyde was not physical gifted, his forte was being football smart. He diagnoses plays well and took good angles.

We seen these types of guys before, they tend to turn out to be real good football players. Lets hope Ted found a good one in Hyde.

Sherrod is very close. Harris has a knee issue. One to Two weeks away from practicing. House is fighting an illness.

Frickin' Neal is one injury after another, just cut the guy get someone in who will be able to contribute.

Oh dear. RT @tomecurran: Practice over. Tebow horrendous.

Whew, glad I was sitting for that revelation.

Tebow will end up lining up as a running back or tightend.

You may be right, but Neal can't rush the passer on IR. The guy has sat more than he has played. Frustrating, because the guy does have talent.

Neal today

"Some people, you just look at them, they're just built completely different. I'd like to say that at 294 I was really explosive, and that's not really good because if you've got all that muscle, you're pulling too much on tendons and stuff like that. And I've had tendon and ligament injuries. I mean, I've looked at it and I know it's one of those things. You're 300 pounds, but you can move a little bit faster than them. But, you're doing a lot of pulling and yanking on stuff that you shouldn't. The loss of weight will definitely be better on my body.

"I'm 275 right now. So I'm feeling a little bit lighter. It's more natural for me to be this weight, i feel better at this weight, i think i utilize my abilities better at this weight. but you know, they've given me the option to play around with it and (said), 'Where do you feel comfortable at?' They told me I didn't have to lose any, but if I wanted to, they'd see how I moved. It was up to me, how I felt.

This must be what Gerg was talking about when he mentioned the cookie cutters...

MM's exact words when asked about Neal's injury "He'll be fine...I'm not concerned about it". Heisenberg says, "Relaax!"

Yes, and I just noticed that as well.

quoting myself - that's just wrong.

but...  was watching Training Camp Report out of GB last nite and Johnnie Gray said the Dline coaches, as much as they love everything about Datone, have been getting on him for playing "too high".  I'm sure he'll get it down as he'll realize soon enough how much leverage he loses against 350 lb OL by standing up.

Sounds like Datone having quite the day:

  1. Should have been Jones is RUNNING BY his fellow rookies. Darn autotype.

  2. Jones is ratting up his fellow rookies. Way too quick.

  3. Jones runs around Patrick Lewis like he wasn't even there.

  4. Jones just got under Datko and drove him off his feet.

  5. Jones whizzes past Van Roten.

From a couple peeks I've taken at twitter today, sounds like Lacy brought some nasty to camp today.

Tyler Dunne     @TyDunne

Yikes. Eddie Lacy sends Datone Jones airborne with a lowered shoulder at the end of his run. On his back.

McCarthy: Johnny Jolly left practice with an ankle injury. Moses was out with a toe. "This is training camp football." This is "normal".

McCarthy on Coleman INTS: Says they were poor decisions. Did right thing though. "I would throw those in the area of inexperience."

McCarthy on Finley: "He's not in the media. I like that. .. That was a joke. He's back to being the Jermichael Finley of 2009."

Also said Finley is having a "heck of a camp".

For Quarless "he's getting there. You can see it. Still has hurdles to clear. Catching the ball better. "

Jason Wilde     @jasonjwilde

McCarthy says rookie ILB Sam Barrington is "reckless," which he likes. Didn't like it when he whacked Jeremy Ross on Sunday, though

Could use a little dose of that at LB.
