The NFC is solid - the Packers will now need to outperform several more teams as I don't think those on top this year are 1 year wonders. This is why TT needs to make some bold moves. The ship he is currently sailing got close, but that window is closed now. Need meaningful change for 2018.

BiL is a huge cowboy fan. Said to me after Zeke was suspended how bad Dak was without the running game.

Knows their SBs were due to Johnson and the vikes ineptitude. Hate's the  Jones family. Wants to see new ownership. He is not alone in this thinking. Many long time fand that I know in Texas see things more clearly than others.

If we have learned anything it's that just about any team has a shot and things can change dramatically year over year.  Look back to the Harbaugh 49ers.  That team looked poised to be a dominant force for many years and guess what?  They are in rebuild mode less than 5 years removed from their run.

The Packers will be right there as long as Rodgers is healthy.  They need another corner and pass rusher to get right back in SB contention.

Yup Ted just needs to keep drafting those DB’s, one of these years he’ll get it right and all the Teddy lovers will be proclaiming he’s a genius

Guess you preferred the tenures of Bart & Forrest.

"Bryant entered the game with six touchdowns on the season. He had no games with more than one touchdown. He finished with three catches on six targets."

jerruh really needs to lock that incredible talent up long term NOW!  show him the love, he's the greatest and so easy to work with!!!!

This is such bullsh*t... no one enjoyed that era either. Why is this the reflexive response of anyone who criticizes Thompson?

The greatest thrower of a football in nfl history has lost playoff games where the defense gave up 51, 37, 45, and 44 points in 4 losses. You know how many times that’s happened to Tom Brady? NONE.

They lost in OT on defensive collapses in 2 others, including an NFCC game where they blew a 19 point lead with less than 5 minutes to go. I have defended Thompson on many occasions before. I understood, or at least rationalized, many of the non-moves. But the last time the defense gave up less than 300 points in a season was the year they won it all.

It is my greatest hope that someone, be it Thompson or whoever, gets this thing right and they help Rodgers win more than one more Super Bowl.

If they do not get this thing right in the next 4 years they will have wasted the career of the greatest QB in history. Twice...

I'm not sure Free Agency nor the Draft will get the Packers any closer to a SB.

But getting more players that play with "heart" will.   We are staid and stagnant.

One of the board's favorite people (Cliff Christl) used to harp all the time that it's the elite superstar talents that really make a difference. I didn't agree with Christl on some of his stuff, but I think he was right on that point.

About 80% of the 25-30 key players on every team (11 starters on both sides of the ball, kicker, 3rd and 4th CB, 3rd WR, 2nd TE, 3rd down RB) are usually good enough to win with. You do have to make sure you don't have a killer weakness that can get exploited (2014 AJ Hawk, 2016 Packer CBs), but most coaches can scheme to minimize this, or the superstars make plays to prevent you from seeing it.

The 1996 Packers had Reggie White and Leroy Butler on defense and bunch of good players who looked even better because of Reggie and Leroy. Ron Wolf went out and got guys like Eugene Robinson and Sean Jones to cover up potential glaring weaknesses, but most of those other guys on defense were just guys that were in the right place at the right time. The 1996 Packers had Brett Favre on offense and not one other player that made multiple Pro Bowls (other than past-their-primes Keith Jackson and Andre Rison). You take Favre off that offense and it looks like a mid-1980s Packers offense).

The 2010 Packers had Aaron Rodgers on offense and a bunch of other guys that were good to great players but Jennings and Jordy would have not have run up the stats they did in their careers without Rodgers. On defense they had Woodson, Clay Matthews, and an at-the-time underappreciated Nick Collins.

The 2017 Packers have Aaron Rodgers and not much else special on offense (Bak is an elite level talent, but Pro Bowl LTs are there to let your QB win games, they don't win games by themselves - see Joe Thomas, Cleveland). The defense really doesn't have playmakers other than a reduced CM3. I'll get flamed for the CM3, but he was a guy that still made key plays that won them games. If CM3 doesn't get to Kizer in the Browns game and force that overthrow, the Browns had a walk in TD.

My point is that most teams in the league are 1 injury away from being 6-10. it's not just the Packers. Tom Brady, Drew Brees, Julio Jones, Carson Wentz, Big Ben, Antonio Brown, JJ Watt, Gronk, Beckham, Earl Thomas, Richard Sherman, Cam Newton.

Take any of those guys off their teams for a full season and they are immediately at least 2-4 games worse.

The Packers problem is that they don't have enough playmakers on defense (or the scheme doesn't allow them to be impactful) and they didn't have a good enough backup QB or enough impact players on offense other than Rodgers (Adams was close) to beat any halfway decent team.

Even Classsy Tony Dungy the other night said the 1st things the Cowboys need to do is get themselves a #1 wide receiver.

for this non Cowboy fan in Texas, I hope things stay the same. Long live Jerry Jones.

I for one still have a burning hatred of all things Dallas and always will.  They are the one and only team that comes close to my loathing of the Vikings.

I love it that they have been so average for 20+ years and I love it when the media nuzzles them and they are still so average.  I hope Jerruh lives another 40 years and keeps running the team.
