Yelich has no RBIs since August 16th.

Grandal is 36 for his last 166 with 3 HRs and 17 RBIs since June 30th.

They are playing Spangenberg, Grisham, and Shaw.

Cain, Braun, and Hiura are all out. Moustakas pinch hit but otherwise wasn't available.

And somehow a band-aid pitching staff has given up no runs in 15 innings.

Now Grandal gets tossed.

And Thames gets called out on a steal attempt on a play where the 2nd base umpire just guessed at the call (no way he could see that either way). No angle to tell.

I don't understand bringing in Hader up 4-0. Why not leave Pomeranz in?

Perez pinch for Pomeranz.   Not much point in letting Pomeranz hit, maybe Perwez goes long and we get an extra insurance run.   Plus I think Hader needs work or at least build up his confidence.

But now Hader is probably off the table in an extra inning game today.

Terrible call

Looks like CC may get to donate a little money. Good for him. That 10th inning call was ridiculous.

From ESPN

The strikeout call on Yelich by umpire Ben May upset manager Craig Counsell.

"It's two awful calls," Counsell said, as Yelich had also been called out on strikes in the sixth inning. "I don't know what to say. It's the magnitude of the spot, it's the hitter. It's just bad calls, it's bad umpiring. When it's Christian Yelich and the game's on the line and you miss calls, it hurts and it dramatically affects the outcome of the game."

It’s a tragedy, really... yesterday was a helluva ballgame. Entertaining as hell. Good pace. Good performances. Clutch long balls. Two (seemingly) good teams going after it. Good baseball played, the best aspects of the game that was once the past time.

But it was not fun- or it didn’t feel that way at the end. It was basically the 2019 season in micro- stay competitive, find a way to get everyone excited, then disappoint. Opportunities galore, but disappoint.

The degree to which Shaw forgot baseball is astounding.

Schroeder alluded to how he was shaking his wrist yesterday after an at bat. The likely explanation is that the wrist is still not right (that was the initial problem this year) and other teams have scouted him and determined that they can just throw fastballs by him inside. From watching his at bats since returning from the minors, it's pretty clear he is unable to get around on inside fastballs.

He's had 11 extra base hits in 204 at bats. Roughly one every 19 ABs.

The previous two years he had 121 extra base hits in 1036 at bats. Roughly one every 8.5 ABs.

It's very unlikely you lose it that quickly at 29 years old without an injury playing a role.

Bill Hall had the misfortune of having a pretty good 3-4 year stretch during a time the Brewers sucked. He had the one year where he hit 35 HRs.

He deserved better. Just like Ben Sheets did.

Look at these statistics for Sheets in 2004: 264 strikeouts/32 walks. 0.98 WHIP with a WAR of 7.2.  He lost games in which he went at least 7 innings and gave up 3, 3, 2, 0, 2, 2, 3 and 1 runs. He got no-decisions in 2 games he went over 6 innings and gave up 0 runs.

His record was 12-14 that year.

To put this in perspective, Verlander right now has a WAR of 6.7 for this year.
