MM and change are like dragging a mule along kicking and screaming. If 84 can stay healthy (by no means a given) then maybe Abby starts taking meaningful playing time away from Adams.

But the bigger issue is there just isn't anyone on this roster who will force Adams to play better or get off the field. Monty can't get his ankle right. Abby is injury prone and inexperienced. Ed Williams off the practice field? That's not happening. And we all saw what Janis the WR is like.

Not pretty.

Whether it is injury, inexperience, lack of confidence, or lack of talent there is no denying Davante Adams is a huge liability right now.

For a guy touted as the offseason MVP by his head coach and a future All-Pro by his QB, Adams' play has been absolutely atrocious. When you see rookie WRs contributing in Arizona, Carolina, and Seattle and Allen Robinson tearing it up in Jax in his 2nd season, it is hard not to think that Davante may be one of TT's 2nd round misses, which would be his first such miss at WR after Jennings, Nelson, and Cobb.

Abby and Janis are starting to get more snaps.  Not sure how many Abby got this week, but he was in the slot on both the Kuhn run TD and the TD to Jones. I thought MM had the WRs learn all 3 positions, but maybe Abby has not since he missed a lot of the offseason.

I'd sooner see Quarless activated and MM run 2 and 3 TE sets. Q can't do any worse than Adams and perhaps that also opens up the middle of the field where aside from a Cobb crossing route, Rodgers has had nothing to throw to.

Adams was supposed to be a threat to stretch the field. In the absolute rare occasion he gets separation, he can't catch for shi* (see dropped TD in the EZ today).

I tend to lean to Boris' view on this. The guy has shown he can play in the league and be a factor. Maybe it's injuries. Maybe it's complacency. Maybe it's the proverbial sophomore slump. It's not time to give up on the guy but it is time put at the end of the pecking order.

and don't forget, our QB is still struggling through his own slump.   Bill & Rookie on the radio this morning said AR was childish and a tool in his post-game presser yesterday.  I hope he was upset with himself and the handful of plays he left on the field.

I heard that too.  I hope Rodgers isn't going all Favreian on us.  He better not start getting that "holier than though" attitude.  I'm not seeing much of a "leader" mentality from him this year.  Rodgers is a hell of a player, but he has not impressed me on the field or off the field this year.

This post was forked into a new topic here: Rodgers & Green Bay

Huge sophomore slump, not sure he can be a reliable weapon going forward.  I 100% see this team address the WR position next year.  Nothing is guaranteed with Jordy coming back either, lets hope he ill be 100%,  but they need another player with better separation skills to compliment the rest of the group.  Excited to get TY in the mix.  Also, I am sorry, but Rodgers has also been off this year. The plays that were automatic for years are a struggle.  I also like Richard Rodgers, but they need another Red Zone target with some size.  Tyler Boyd from Pitt has great size and runs 4.4, had a DUI, but should go 1-3 in 2016 draft.   They have 5 decent years left with Rodgers, the time is now to get as many tools in the toolbox as possible.  The post comes very close to resembling an inteilegent response.

Just to get some perspective, here is Adams 2014 numbers: 66 Targets 38 Receptions 57% catch % 446 Yards 11.75 yards/reception 3 TD 2015: 82 Targets 43 Receptions 52% Completion % 387 Yards 9 Yards/Reception 1 TD Yes there has been a drop off in production this year, partly due to a nagging injury and partly just due to struggles. It's not a historically bad season though. He's also not the only struggling, James Jones and Randall Cobb are seeing career lows in Completion %. When all of your receivers are struggling, two of whom (Cobb and Jones) are historically a over 60% in Completion %, that tells me it's more than just an Adams issue.

So like has anybody noticed how Dante Adams has like not been good this year?  And he was like frickin awesome last year and now he can't catch the ball. I mean OMG.   Anybody see that or maybe I'm like being too critical of him?  And what about that badger kid?  Jared Janis.  He's playing so good I can't believe Rogers don't throw to him more.  Really?  Really?

If you look at the number of pass attempts per first down the differences from last year are startling. If you take the numbers for the top 3 WRs.

2014

Nelson - 151 targets, 71 first downs, 47%

Cobb - 126 targets, 70 first downs, 56%

Adams - 66 targets, 23 first downs, 35%

Overall: 343 targets, 164 first downs, 48%

2015

Cobb - 118 targets, 39 first downs, 33%

Adams - 81 targets, 17 first downs, 21%

Jones - 76 targets, 32 first downs, 42%

Overall: 275 targets, 88 first downs, 32%

Cobb is down roughly two first downs per game and Adams might have the lowest ration in the league. James Jones has been good and Richard Rodgers is around 33% (24 first downs in 74 targets).

Did they just sign Jones for 1 year?

Yes. League minimum.

No Jordy Nelson, which is causing....

Cobb is generally doubled & tripled on 3rd down to prevent the first, because all the other receivers suck & the defense knows Rodgers is looking for Cobb.

Dick Rod needs to be better. He can't have these ridiculous drops like the one yesterday that hit him in the numbers.

They need to keep checking down to more screens. That $hit is working  for a minimum of 5 yards because at least the WR's are bringing defenders down the field.

Agree about the impact to Cobb without Nelson, but they also had been playing Cobb outside more this year with the other injuries (Monty and Adams) and he just isn't big enough to beat man/bump coverage consistently. That is where Montgomery was showing something early.

I suspect A-Rod realizes he may not be the best QB on the team.  Tolzien?  The Rookie?  Will the train be leaving without him next?  Did he open a steak house yet?  He selling pickups.  When will he be riding a mower wearing skin tight pants?

Yeah..  I watched that and it made me want to slap the taste out of his mouth.   His smug little smile and curt answers.    Either his ego is getting out of control or he is trying to get that chip back.

Obviously hoping that he is trying to get that edge by creating a "everyone is against me" perception in his mind that really isn't there.

He opened a restaurant with Ryan Braun.

Instead of selling pants, he sells insurance.

I'm wondering is this isn't related to earlier comments in which Rodgers intimated that maybe some of the players weren't preparing for game day in a professional manner. Adams might be one of those guys. I think Lacy is proving to be one of those guys.

No wonder they use Double the Check quote!  Thanks.

Had to update this. Davante Adams has 81 targets and 2 catches for longer than 25 yards all year. One was a 40 yard catch at the end of the first half against Carolina that was caught in bounds as the clock ran out (basically a meaningless catch). The other was a 38 yard catch today where he picked up 5 yard penalty for spiking the ball to celebrate. Keep in mind he's a starting WR in the NFL, a second round pick, and has a Hall of Fame QB throwing to him.

Adams in 2015 (81 targets)

2 catches for over 25 yards

3 catches for 20-25 yards.

4 catches for 15-19 yards.

Cobb in 2015 (118 targets vs. 126 targets in 2014)

5 catches for over 25 yards (12 in 2014)

5 catches for 20-24 yards (12 in 2014)

9 catches for 15-19 yards (8 in 2014)

Jordy Nelson in 2014 (151 targets - a lot more targets but a lot more separation)

12 catches for over 25 yards

7 catches for 20-25 yards

14 catches for 15-19 yards

The top 2 WRs have 28 catches for over 15 yards in 2015.

Jordy Nelson had 33 by himself in 2014 and Cobb had 32 by himself in 2014.

28 vs. 65. That sums up the offense this year.

Now can we please sit Adams down? Why do we continue to play the guy? The pass in the end zone that went through his hands that he didn't seem to touch was it for me. Abbrederis gets benched for one drop. That's one drive for Adams and yet he still plays.

Cobb should be buying Adams a TV this offseason because Adam's poor play has been keeping the focus off of Cobb.  Cobb is getting paid Jordy money, right?  He isn't playing that way.

I believe that Cobbs play is affected just as much by surrounding cast as is AR's. Same thing for Adams and James Jones too. What they make doesn't change the fact that any semblance of a deep threat went off of the field with Montgomery. Until then Packers offense was still fairly good even without J. Nelson. James Jones was looking like a steal. The wheels came off after Montgomery went down. The wheels went rolling down the street in flames when the OL started getting banged up too.

I wonder how Jordy would fair if the situations were reversed. He's always had Greg Jennings and/or Cobb in that slot. The Cowboys and Seahawks took him out of last years playoffs and it got Cobb a big payday. The difference is Cobb could take advantage of the attention Nelson got. Nobody can do it for Cobb. If Cobb were gone instead of Nelson I have my doubts it would be a lot better. It's symbiotic and the Packers are paying for it.

And what exactly was Janis given for targets?

Good grief, a DropVante apologist, making Monty a deep threat at 4.51
