Interesting opinion brought up by Joe Lombardi in his book "Gridiron Genius". He states that the speed of the defense is dictated by the Middle / Inside LBers, and how fast the defense is playing can be measured by how many fumbles they create (higher the velocity upon impact = more fumbles). He didn't state that he got this opinion from Belicheck / Walsh / Parcels / Al Davis, or it was purely his own. Looking at stats from the last 10 years the Packers have not been in the top 10 in that category in any year. They average in the bottom half of the league (the last 4 years; 27th, 18th, 22nd, 22nd). During that same time NE has been in the top 10 four times, & Seattle six Times. SF is number one if you average the past 3 seasons. What does everyone think? Is he on to something (he did many analytical studies for Belicheck , but does not specify if this theory was borne out of one of those or just antidotal observations)? Would we be crazy to pass on Murray or Queen if they fell to us?

Makes complete sense.  A great Dline is a huge component but devaluing ILB to the role of safety net has been killing the Packers.  Of course you could/should put more value on certain positions but having a mindset of almost writing off the position is becoming an Achilles heel.  Yes, I think they would be nuts to pass up Queen or Murray.  My line of thinking has shifted to believe ILB has to be priority 1.  Don't reach for a guy if those two aren't there but not looking to address it in the first 3 rounds just seems negligent.

To counter that argument, Oren Burks.  Jesus.  I was really excited when they drafted him.

I agree, it'd be a huge mistake to pass on Murray or Queen.  I know ILB isn't as "valuable" as other positions but #30 is the perfect place to draft a a starter at any position.  Guard, Center, ILB, slot WR, nickel CB, etc., all the "non-value" positions.......you get a starter at 30, it's a good pick.

Queen or Murray would give this team an ILB that they haven't seen in decades.  I used to be on board with plugging "value" picks in at ILB and devoting more resources to pass rushers and secondary, but this defense has sucked for years and the common thread has been poor ILB play.  The only really good defensive team was 2010, and it happened to be Hawk and Bishop's best year together.  Coincidence?  I don't think so.
