From jso...

Sounds like Ted never wanted to draft badgers...

"I have great respect for the program and Barry Alvarez and Paul (Chryst) and the whole bunch down there," McCarthy said. "I’m glad they’re here. Because I know for a long time (former Packers general manager) Ted (Thompson) was scared to death to bring one into the building. It’s great to have some Badgers in our program."

It was on the GB news this morning.  Thank God for DVR.  As I’m listening I’m literally like WTF did he say?  Listened to it 3 times and couldn’t make it out clearly so hit closed caption and sure enough the “scared to death” comments came through.

He was laughing when he said it so take that for what it’s worth but at first I was like what the what???

I get that MM was joking, but what it tells us is what we always suspected: that it seemed like TT was purposefully  avoiding them.  And it tells us that this had occurred to others in the organization, that they had thought the same thing.

My theory on it was, when you're good at something, which Thompson was, it starts to become about YOU more than the client.  TT wanted to surprise people, wanted his own signature on every draft, not just doing what pundits or the fans wanted.  Hence the whole "getting cute" label, and hence shying away from local favorites.

His quirks ran their course is all.  Take the best player.  It's not about you.

JMO. I prefer the new guy.

You are way off.... translation:  if you have to cut the local player it is not good for public relations. You had better be sure that the kid can play. Nothing to do with ego, just common sense. You hear this about DI colleges all the time.

Which makes total sense since Uncle Teddy had a hard time cutting guys in general.  TT is a nice guy.

So he cuts some other guy but keeps his draft pick Kyler Fackrell, who won  exactly 1 one-on-one last year. I’m thinking ego is involved in that one.

But, but MM made a joke. How can that not ruin your day?

How can I prove to you that I’m sober? By crying about a joke?

Anyone got some Wild Turkey for me?

On something if you're seeing "crying" anywhere in this thread GL!

It's the same thing when Hank gets lit:  Anyone talking sober has their "panties wadded" or some whiskey bravado bullcrap like that.  It'll pass.

His JSO thread is a fricken mess he needs to clean that up too.  Check it in the morning.

Keep me out of your wadded fetishes.

Maybe TT had reason to keep former Badgers from Green Bay. Consider -- Abbedaris: walking concussion. Biegel: foot fetish. Don Davey: serviceable. Bud Keyes: who? Randy Wright: five years, more INTs than TDs every year. Gary Ellerson: two years of dud. Mark Tauscher: the exception that proves the rule.

Green Bay: where Badgers go to ground!

I could be wrong but the lack of Badgers players in GB goes back further than ROTTT.  I thought somewhere along the line I heard that the Packers didnt want to pick Badgers because they thought it would be too much pressure on them.

Wow Fandame, the Packers gave Randy Wright FIVE years?   One of my favorite Packers dark years jokes is about Randy Wright.

Did you hear that Randy Wright quit playing for the PAckers today and was hired as an CIA secret agent? Why? because he can overthrow anyone.
