Brewer down 5-0. Gray was sharp today. Brewers aren’t hitting Cincy starters at all.

BP comes in- Urias hits a HR, walk, then Bradley… uhhg. Bradley is pretty stupid... dudes up there unable to hit the strike zone with a single offspeed pitch and he's up there flailing away. Dude threw one strike on a fastball. After that, 4 balls, but two swings snd misses to get the K. Next guy walks on 5 pitches. Bases should be loaded, no outs.

Double play ends the inning after they bring in the next guy.

If Milwaukee can go 17-17 here on out

  • Cincy has to go 25-8 (.757) to tie
  • STL has to go 31-5 (.861) to tie

If Cincy (.543) and STL (.508) play at their current pace

  • Milwaukee just needs to be 11-23 or better to stay ahead of Cincy
  • Milwaukee just needs to be 5-29 or better to stay ahead of STL

If Milwaukee goes 21-13 to continue to play at their current pace (.609)

  • Cincy would to go 29-4 to tie
  • STL would need to go 35-1 to tie

Keep winning series

To add some comments to Tim's posts.

1. The Brewers won the season series against the Reds 10-9, so if they tie the Brewers are in. So that makes the magic number 25 for the Reds and 22 for the Cardinals.

2. If the Brewers win or tie each remaining series, they go 21-13 which is exactly their current pace.

3. The Cards and Reds play each other 6 more times. One may essentially eliminate the other in those games.

4. The Reds have a very favorable schedule the rest of the way. They play three really poor teams that were never good or have given up (Pirates, Cubs, and Nationals) 16 times in the closing stretch. The Brewers have only 6 games like that (3 each versus the Cubs and Twins). It wouldn't be surprising at all to see the Reds close the gap some. The Brewers took care of business in their stretch against those teams the last few weeks to establish this lead.

Brewer lineup really sucks the last week or so…

Adames and Escobar being out really reduces their firepower.

To really be a threat, they really need Yelich to become at least a poor man's version of what he was in 2018 and 2019. He's shown signs in August (303 BA, 826 OP) but the power is just not there. Other than the 2 HR game he had last week, he's hit 1 HR and only 10 doubles in the last 42 games.

He's improved from being the modern Charlie Moore to being a Jeff Cirillo-type guy this last month, but they are paying him to be superstar. I'm sure he's more frustrated than anybody, but he has to be the guy with Adams and Escober out now.

Brewers get the final game of the Twins series and the Reds lose, so back to a 9 game lead in the loss column over the Reds with 31 games left. Boxberger, Williams, and Hader pitch 3 scoreless innings giving up only 2 hits with no walks and striking out 8.

On to San Francisco for a tough series. Need to win at least 1 of the 4 and getting at least a split would be a win for the Brewers.

First and 3rd no outs and Burnes is done.

Really, it’s disappointing. He has 8 Ks, has been rolling… that was kind of a Cy Young moment there. If there’s anything I worry about him it’s this point- doesn’t get very deep very often. Counsell batted him in the 6th with the idea he’s rolling, let him go for it- his pitch count in the 90s. And he pays for the gamble.
