Another important 4 games series coming up.  Brewers send out Freddy while the Dodgers counter with lefty Julio Urias.   A little shake up in the line up for the Crew.  Brosseau will bat clean up and play 3rd base.  Tellez dropped to 6th in the batting order while Urias bats 7th and plays 2nd base.     ESPN gives the Breweras only a 37.7% chance of winning.

GO BREW CREW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The part that concerns me is it’s pretty likely the NL central division winner is the 3 seed no matter what.  So that team plays right away with no bye like the 1 or 2 seeds.

It’s also possible the 3 seed will play the team that comes in 2nd in the NL central race.   Meaning Cards v Brewers.

San Diego is 2 up on Milwaukee for the 6 seed but again, the goal needs to be winning the division and they are still within striking distance of STL.   But I don’t have a ton of confidence in that they only have a few head to head games left with the Cards and just about everyone above them in the standings has been playing better than them.

True. Probably will depend on how Hader pitches in Sept/Oct and next year.

For me, it's not so much about the fact they traded Hader. It's the fact that they traded him in what appears to be a salary dump without getting much back to help them this year. They couldn't even get a bat who might help them win this year?

Rogers is injured and has struggled worse than Hader since late May. He ERA in June was 5.59, 9.31 in July, and over 12 in August.

Lemet looked like a good gamble to take, but they released him immediately. When he got picked up by the Rockies, it saved the Brewers almost 2 million.

The other two guys are in the minors. Ruiz has potential, but he's hitting 249 in AA this year. If ever helps at all, it's probably 2024 at the earliest. Gasser has a lot of velocity, but he's only at AA as well. He'll likely in 2024 as well.

This is the type of move you make when you are out of the playoff race and are looking to the future. Instead, the Brewers have a top 5 pitching staff in MLB and needed a bat.

The front office basically just sent the message they don't think they are good enough to go for it this year.

My guess is they'll trade either Burnes or Woodruff this coming off-season (maybe both). Attanasio has definitely been an improvement over previous ownership, but he wants to make money on this team if he can. Between the cost-cutting and the albatross that is the Yelich contract, their window is when they have Burnes and Woodruff for a playoff series. That window is rapidly closing.

It’s what the Brewers do

No way in hell they were paying Hader 15M next year in arb year but honestly he’s earned it.

So Mark A and Stearns cut bait and return is honestly a whole lot of crap or inconsistency.  Or a bunch of what ifs for arguably the best reliever in baseball.  Rogers is dog shit.

If I’m Woodruff or Burnes the writing is on the wall.  If the idea is max return they should be traded today.

Mark A needs to decide if he’s a legit gangster owner or a somewhat more generous Bud Selig cheap ass hiding behind a small market narrative.  I’m not holding my breath.  Time to step up Mark A.  But he won’t.

Stearns is as good as it gets but he can only do what he can do.  The Brewers should take a page from the Bucks although something tells me Lasry and Edens and Co have a lot more dough than Mark A and his feel good BS.

Attanasio is estimated to be worth 700 million

Lasry is at 1.8 billion

Edens is at 700 million

Also, Giannis at 50 million a year is one of the biggest bargains in sports. Yelich at 26 million is not. That's part of the equation as well.

Don't count them out yet. They have a very favorable schedule remaining.  29 games against Cubbies, Reds, Pirates, D-backs, Rockies with 16 of those home games.  Yes they have 17 games against the Giants,  Dodgers (including today) , Mets, Yankees, and Cards but only 5 of those games are on the road, 3 at L A and 2 with Cards.  They can still do this.

I think they are more likely to catch the Padres for the last wild-card spot than they are to catch the Cardinals. The Padres are still loaded with talent, but the Tatis suspension has kind of stung them.

The Brewers are the only team among the contenders that actually got less talented (at least for this year's roster) at the trade deadline as well. Some reporting from New York that the Hader deal was basically the first move of several that would have improved their lineup this year, but they couldn't complete any other deals and then seemed to overpay for Bush and Rosenthal.

The issue I see is the Brewers have no one in their lineup that scares you.  Most other NL contenders have at least one if not two or three if you are the Dodgers.   12 of the top 25 batters in the league (OPS) play for the Cards or Padres or Mets or Dodgers or Braves.  Tellez and Renfroe have been solid but are so damn up and down it’s not funny.

Yes, Burnes and Woodruff are as good as they come, but the pitching they will face in the playoffs is still pretty damn good.

What’s frustrating is back in 2008 and 2011 and even 2018 they had threats offensively but lacked enough quality starting pitching to get them over the hump.  Now they have the pitching but not one player that can carry them offensively.

As far as trading for a bat, would you have traded Burnes, Woodruff, or Peraltra for a bat?   I would not have.   Would you have traded Wong and Urias for a bat?  Only if you were content to having Huria and Brosseau play everyday.   We need Jace Peterson to get well and keep getting key hits as he has done in the past.   He should be back in a day or two.
