Just for kicks, here's the Packer defenders who are gone from the 2021 team and their likely replacements for 2022. I didn't do Z cause he played so little
Kingsley Keke β Jarran Reed and Devonte Walker
Henry Black - Quay Walker, Sean Davis, Vernon Scott
Oren Burks - Quay Walker + Isiah McDuffie on STs
Kris Barnes - some will go to Quay Walker, some he keeps
Chandon Sullivan β Rasul Douglas, Jaire Alexander, Darnell Savage
Tyler Lancaster - TJ Slaton, Jarran Reed, maybe Ford too.
Kevin King β Jaire Alexander ( sort of )
Isaac Yiadom β TBD
That's some damn good work by Gute & Co.
Go Packers

nevermind.
I just read the blurb on Nate Becker - the TE they just signed off waivers from Beefalo
βI played quarterback my first two years of high school, and I was a late bloomer,β Becker told The Buffalo News. βGoing into my junior year when I finally shot up to my height and weight where I could put myself together, it was probably smart to move to tight end, and thatβs what happened.
βI was kind of clumsy, awkward, hadnβt grown into myself yet,β Becker said. βI didnβt honestly play much varsity football at all until the playoffs of my senior year. I really only played about probably five, six games of high school where football truly mattered β where the game was tight and I was still in the game.β
At the RedHawksβ pro day before the 2019 draft, he measured 6-foot-5
and 258 pounds and ran his 40 in 5.10 seconds. He is a blocker, first and foremost.
βEven in high school, the tight end position I played, I was basically playing fullback,β he said. βIβd be in the backfield, leading the way for a running back. That helped me with my transition to Miami because thatβs basically what I was doing there, especially since I was 265 pounds. I knew we were a running team, and I just wanted to be somebody the team could rely on to make a play to get our backs out in space.β

Really nice day from Toure and he'd be a very difficult cut.
Unless they keep 7, Toure and Winfree are getting cut. But both would be great to have on the PS. Throw that little Wisconsin kid on there, too.

More blockers, please. We is going to run the mofo ball, girls and boys.

Some suggestions out there to keep eight and only go with three TE (Davis cut).
Yikes. I doubt that. I can see 4 TE's unless they want to keep an extra blocker. That can open up a spot for another WR or OL.
Whats the better depth, an extra TE or Toure?

Gimme some more Samori!

The TE would probably get more snaps unless Toure is playing ST's.
Then again you factor in Watkins and Cobb as 2 of your WR's and you might need to plan for the inevitable.
Packers GM Brian Gutekunst keeps talking about how having the 16 practice squad spots β turning a 53-man roster into a 69-man roster β could change the numbers at position groups on the 53. Can be much more flexible, not necessarily boxed into keeping certain numbers at each spot

This.
Lizard may play a 'more receiver/less blocker' role this year, and they need somebody to replace that. And I can't see it being Cobb, Watkins, or Amari, so it will likely be the rookie(s), or the guys that are depth/ST players.
IIRC, PFF graded Sammy Watkins as the best blocking WR in the league last year.
Lazard graded out as 5th best.

Steno likes Hanson in the βPatrickβ role. I donβt. I must be missing something.

And I bet within a couple of years Watson will be right there with them.
Underrated but key question:
Will coaches end the preseason being βcuckoo for Coco (*puffs*)β???
He can't be worse than Wirtel but it's probably 50/50 that our 2022 long snapper isn't on the roster today.
Keep an eye on Ford tonight. He looked like a force to me last week.
Looks more like an unmovable object to me.

RTFB
Summers needs to be cut yesterday. Completely useless.
Watching him last night makes me enjoy even more that this is his last week in a GB uniform.
Zach Kruse out with a new projection.
He's got Davis out at TE, Caleb and Kobe Jones in and Abernathy sticking at safety. Silverstein is of the opinion that Caleb Jones has played well enough that the team may not be able to sneak him through to the PS.
But no Bakhtiari on the 9 OL.
My guess is he's not optimistic about him coming off of the PUP list to start the season.
Iβd like to see Jones get the start in the 3rd game at RT. The kid looked dominate against the saints scrubs. If he can be a serviceable RT until Bahk gets back it allows us to remove Newman from the starting group.
Yosh, Jenkins, Meyers, Runyon, Jones.
When, shit if, Bahk comes back than Jones and Yosh compete for RT.
69 will be out first 4 weeks at least...i don't like it but it's probably reality.

Well shut my mouth heβs off pup awesome news
Have to keep Caleb Jones. He'd be snapped up in a minute. JMHO.
I hope they keep Caleb but that's gonna be tough with 69 active now. I do think he would make it to the PS.
A good read. I agree with this list.
Difficult to me to see how Van Lanen makes the 53 and I'm very skeptical he wouldn't make it through waivers. I expect to see him on the PS.
Agree.. we do this every year, worry over who we are going to lose from claims and cut down.
It's rare that our guys get claimed as other teams have their young guys that they want to keep as well.
McDuffie makes it on production, not because we fear losing him. Van Lanen goes to PS, Goodson goes to PS because Taylor is the better special teamer and knows the pass pro.
Found on the internet: The one player I actually hope they keep on the 53 is Caleb Jones. The others can be found elsewhere easily but there are not many 370 pound 6'9" Tackles. I realize he is indeed a project but in the run game? Holy crap give me some of that. He just moves other humans against their will. Even if you just put him in as a 6th linemen for goal line or 3rd and short?? A 250 pound back running behind a 370 Tackle should gain a yard.
I thought Jones had dropped his weight down into the 330's.
Silverstein on Caleb Jones: Link (paywall)
Nobody felt 6-9, 370-pound Indiana tackle Caleb Jones was worth drafting even with the longest arms of any player at the NFL combine and three years of starting experience.
The Packers offered Jones a $5,000 signing bonus to join them as a free agent after the draft. For the months since then, Jones has trimmed down to somewhere in the 340-pound range and taken on the challenge of playing left tackle, a position at which he started just six games in college.
Jones has been surprisingly good on the edge despite not being a superior athlete, using his 86β -inch wingspan β which would have been the longest at the combine had he been invited β to stymie anyone who tries to get around him. His strength is below average based on combine standards β 18 reps in the bench β but he has been pretty stout against bull rushes during the first two preseason games.
He had a good week of practice in the joint workouts with the Saints and then played well Friday night.
βI feel like getting out of my set and being able to set stripe to stripe with whoever it is coming off the edge against me has given me one hell of an advantage because Iβm already a bigger, taller, heavier offensive lineman,β Jones said. βSo, they donβt really know where to go. They donβt know whether to go inside or outside, commit to a bull rush or whatever.β
Scouts around the league will also notice that he helped cave in his side on zone fakes and is an imposing guy to run behind for running backs catching a screen pass. Jones has a lot more work to get his body in shape, but given the desire for tackle prospects, the Packers may not be able to let him go and expect to get him back on the practice squad.
Jones started working at right tackle this week, which might be a sign the Packers are preparing him to be a swing backup tackle.

When your arms are that long, you are not going to have a huge bench number. This is why you see the short fat power lifters moving so much weight, limited range of motion. I'm sure the man is plenty strong and I'll take the long arms at Tackle, put the power lifter at G or C.
