Did Amari return punts in college? Perhaps transition to pros as wide receiver and punt returner was too big a  jump. Then he had to return kicks as well.
Amari suddenly looked good and quickly cut and ran forward returning punts week after he was out w/ Covid and fill in David Moore looked great vs MN. Competition brings out your best.

He deserves the benefit of the doubt and time to develop for sure. That said, he really looked like a fish out of water. I don't think I have ever seen anyone look so unsure of themselves on the football field.

How often was Amari used on offense, last season? Other than an end around play and a couple passes thrown his way, we have no idea of what he can do, on offense. Let him be a WR and we'll see what he can do. Now that we drafted Watson and Doubs, they, with Kylin Hill, can handle return duties.

I think they would have liked to use him more but I'm guessing they lacked confidence in him.

Notes and Punt Return stats from x4 Amari Rodgers Draft Thread:
Player Bio
The son of former Tennessee and NFL quarterback Tee Martin nearly signed with USC, where Martin was coaching at that time. He decided to move from Knoxville to Clemson, however, as a top-100 national recruit and two-time Tennessee Mr. Football Award winner. Rodgers played in 14 games as a true freshman (19 receptions, 123 yards, 6.5 average; two punt returns, 15 yards, 7.5 average) before moving into the starting lineup for all 15 games during the team's national championship season. He garnered honorable mention All-ACC honors as an all-purpose player in 2018 (55 receptions, 575 yards, 10.5 average, four touchdowns; 39 punt returns, 299 yards, 7.7 average, one touchdown). Rodgers suffered a torn ACL the following March but only missed one game of his junior year (10 starts in 14 appearances) to garner honorable mention all-conference accolades as a receiver (30 receptions, 426 yards, 14.2 average, four touchdowns) and all-purpose player (18 punt returns, 151 yards, 8.4 average, two rushes, 50 yards, one touchdown). With the departure of Tee Higgins and the loss of Justyn Ross due to injury, Rodgers became Trevor Lawrence's top target in 2020, leading the Tigers with 77 receptions and 1,020 receiving yards (13.3 per) while tying for the team lead with seven touchdown catches. The first-team All-ACC selection also scored once as a rusher (2-50-25.0) and returned punts (nine returns, 64 yards, 7.1 average). He accepted an invitation to the Senior Bowl. -- by Chad Reuter
Overview
So not great but certainly experienced, Amari returned punts all 4 yrs, 68 total, 1 TD.

Goodson in one game has shown more than any of the other dudes. Excited to see how he does vs the Aints.

Time will tell
Many RBs look good in preseason...in part because its preseason. He's a dime a dozen little guy who is a liability in pass pro. That doesn't show up in preseason because teams don't often send blitzers screaming into the A gap like they do in reg season.
Can't see investing a spot on the 53 for him. PS ?  Yes, absolutely. See if he can be developed into Aaron Jones 2.0 with a year of seasoning/strength. But for 2022, the Packers already have a back-up "little" RB in Kylin Hill ( PUP)

Patrick Taylor is a bigger, more experienced back and has actually shown his mettle in reg season games. I think he'll win the RB3 spot because he's the only one with any stoutness at 6'2 and 220.

Taylor has shown he can run, catch and handle pass pro. Here's his work vs Lions last year - starts at the 2:00 minute mark. Not explosive, but competent in all facets and that's often the decider for coaches when looking at depth dudes.
