+LeFleur was the right hire.  He's going to be a good coach in this league with the potential to be great.

+Gute knows how to draft and sign free agents.  His 2018 and 2019 draft class looks pretty good so far and his 2019 free agents were all hits.

-No idea what we do to fix this defense.  They've spent 4 first rounders and 3 second rounders on defense in the last 4 years, and signed 3 high priced free agents this off season.  They can't put any more money and picks into this defense because the offense seriously needs an influx of talent at WR, TE and OL.  So what do you do?  I'd say fire Pettine and hire a new DC but we already fired Capers and hired Pettine and that clearly hasn't fixed the issues.  I just don't know how to solve this teams defensive issues.

Nice job Mr. Positive.

Scott improved his net by over a yard. He dropped  29 inside the 20 compared to 19 in 2018.  He also had only 4 touchbacks compared to 9 the year before.  He did improve.

The jury is still out on St. Brown as well as Cole Madison. They need a chance. one to recover from a leg injury and the other to get his head on straight.

Hunter Bradley was more than adequate as a long snapper. he did a fine job.

So to say the entire draft class except for Alexander is a disaster is just rong.

If memory serves, Green Bay's 'experiment' with a ZBS was a clusterf**k from the get-go.
MM had hired Jeff Jagoffdzinski to implement a ZBS (or derivative), but he bailed after his first year. We were also drafting smaller, (supposedly) quicker guys who were going to rely on finesse and technique as opposed to brute force.
And it went over like a turd in the punch bowl.
If memory is still serving, they ran a "hybrid" version of Jagoff's ZBS  while they transitioned back to a more conventional scheme, and started drafting big uglies again.

I noticed that Tennessee was running 3 TE sets (frequently) in their game vs KC. Not a bad idea for the Pack if we keep a plethora of TEs again, maybe even at the possibility of 'sacrificing' a traditional FB.

FWIW, I think SF was doing what I expected from the Rams this year and beyond.
No reason the Packers can't develop the same/similar. I'd like to see the OL and TE coaches work very closely with the OC on this.

I don't think firing the ABM is the answer (and I would be shocked if that happened) to fix what is the problem with the defense.  I think if you upgrade ILB and the DL with guys who are physical and not just "guys" you will see an immediate improvement.  I would take the opposite stance and that is that Pettine's coaching job this year has been pretty darn good given the shortcomings in some areas of the defense.  Yes they have to figure out how to stop the big plays but overall it was Pettine's defense that carried this team at times.

...and just who might that be? Tua? In most of the mock drafts I have seen, Tua is gone by pick #6. Are we going to trade up into the top 5 to get him? I highly doubt it. So, which QB, other than Tua, is worth going after, in this draft?

It's a bit early for me to say who I'd like to see us draft (pre-combine), and right now, the prospect rankings are all over the place. Given the team's needs in other areas, I don't a see a QB getting drafted before day 3.

You know, James Morgan at Florida International is from Green Bay. I would certainly put him on the list of players the team will consider.

Nate Stanley of Iowa would be another local prospect the team might look at.

Maybe not a disaster but early returns are not good. Josh Jackson, Oren Burks, Jmon Moore, MVS, etc. It's not looking good. I was impressed with EQ though and hopefully he is a gamer and we get something out of Madison as well. Maybe MVS can still contribute also-not sure what happened to him as he went from looking so promising to hardly seeing the field.

I am not sure how Fromm and Eason from Washington are ranked but they are guys that are consistently listed in the top 10 of QBs in the draft.  One guy to keep an eye on is George Love out of Utah State.  I guess many like his game and has a decent upside.  One I think is a gamer and could be good is Ehlinger from Texas who has made strides in college.

All those years the Niners sucked the Packers were making 2 other NFC Championship Games.

Not hanging my head over here. Just wasn't our year.

I'll echo michiganjoe's sentiment even though I don't agree at all to the degree some people have been throwing around.  Getting mopped clearly highlighted weaknesses in players and coaching.  Can it be improved upon with the existing players and coaches?  Up to Mayo to decide on the coaching.

Broken record, it is still the 1st year of a new HC and a soft rebuild.  Those are facts.  Maybe the exposure of the defense is enough for Mayo to want to look for another direction and he'd be justified in doing so.  Yet, I think the hysterics that follow an ass kicking like this need to be tempered.  If Mayo and Pettine are on the same page there is zero reason to believe the team as a whole won't improve with more talent.  We've already seen the beginning of it this year.  This kind of stuff doesn't break or repair itself over night or over one game.

Fromm and Eason are early day 2 picks, probably...certainly no later than 3rd round, I would think.

Henry, you got it.  I think we need to step back for a moment and think about just how improved this team was after the S**t show this team was the previous two seasons.

I think this team is in great hands with the GM and HC and if they get more talent in this roster in key spots I think they could take that next jump.  Yes this team still has holes and yes they got their manhood handed to them but I also think that if they stay healthy next year could be really special.

For some reason, your post didn't make me feel any better about that draft. That's a whole load of players who better take one giant step next year.

You would think our coaches would also know the tendencies of their coaches. Are our coaches that much dumber? MLF definitely needs to make some changes.

A mediocre punter and a long snapper. Yes, I was rong.

This is the National Football League.  Local prospects don't mean shit.

I keep going back to Pettine's whole "the #1 priority on D will be stopping the pass because that is more important" statement.  I think he knows this likely sacrifices run D performance and is willing to give that up in order to prevent death by the pass.  Is he capable of scheming a D that can do both?  Is it possible without many more high draft picks?

I didn't see the games SF lost or almost lost so I don't know what those teams did on D that was more successful.  Were they games Kittle missed?  The basic strategy is to do whatever you can to stop their run and make JG beat you.  Then you have to have a good enough pass D to carry that out.  I realize it also depends on how their offenses were performing but that's another topic (any O vs. SF D).

To follow, I just posted some interesting stats about SF's running game in the Pettine thread... I totally agree that Pettine blew it by emphasizing stopping the pass.

No, no no. Name 1 Alabama QB who has been successful in the NFL since Namath (And if you say Scott Hunter I will gouge your eyes out). Alabama QB's suck and that's all there is to it.
