Aaron Gleeman ‏@AaronGleeman Not the fairest comparison since OBP gets short-changed by OPS, but from 2010-2012 Carlos Gomez had a higher OPS than Denard Span.

Gosh, remember when it was deemed ridiculous to get Span for Hardy when that was being kicked around? Now both Span and Hardy are gone and GoGo is the most productive player of all three and gets the extension? Craziness?!?!?
Your take is you don't trust him, you want him to platoon with Aoki who you seem to not like either.

I think Gomez is a great defensive centerfielder, and when he plays smart he makes the Brewer offense really go. However he is a player who you need to constantly remind to do the little things, like not try to steal 3rd with 2 out and Braun at the plate. I also think Aoki is a full time player and shouldn't be platooned either.

Thanks. You are almost right on. Not trusting is a bit too strong. What I want is to put him in the best position to succeed (platooning) which they did last season.

Not liking Aoki is also too strong. I like him but am a bit skeptical he can repeat last season's productivity.

Now with all that being said, by giving GoGo the new deal indicates they view him as a full time player. But I hope they maybe go with a "soft" platoon and sit GoGo against nasty righties.

GoGo has all the tools. It's possible that maybe he has put it all together and is a true everyday player. I'm just not 100% sold on that yet.
If he plays like he has the last year or so then this will be a good signing. If he plays like he has in the past (i.e. hitting .230) then this is not a good signing.

He's always been a very good defender but you don't pay a guy that much money to be a defensive player. The Brewers are taking a calculated risk that at 27yrs old maybe the lightbulb has finally come on for the guy? He's always had the physical tools, but it's never translated (fully) into performance on the field. We've seen flashes of the type of offensive player he can be, and so far he's off to a great start in spring training as well.
