IMHO, Jennings is lying when he says: "...Jennings said he wanted to let the Packers' young receivers step into the limelight, which they began to do last season when he was limited to eight games with an abdominal injury.

"I'm not a selfish guy. It's not about me. It's more about giving guys an opportunity to do what they need to do," he said. "I had to remove myself from that situation to allow those guys to spread their wings."

Sorry, but no true competitor leaves a team to give younger guys a chance, especially when you are a WR who has a QB like Rodgers throwing you the ball, and especially when you are on a team with a legit shot at the Super Bowl almost every year. You fight to stay, and you do your best to fight off those young guys and hold on to your position. What Jennings said are the words of someone who knew who was losing ground to the young guys, who had burned his bridges, and who was ticked that GB wouldn't pay him what he wanted, period. "Give the young guys a chance" is pure BS.

I've got no issue with a guy that wants to know "is it me or is it the guy throwing me the ball? How good am I?" I'd probably want to know that as well.

I have an issue with the same guy wanting to let the press know that's what he want's to find out. Just shut up and find out and don't drag others into your self help analysis.

Ted had options in 2006. Brandon Marshall was taken 2 rounds after Greg. Ted made a great pick and handed Greg Brett and Rodgers. GB made Greg rich and gave him a ring.

You get respect when you give respect.

He's talking on a garbage show.  Nothing anyone says on that show matters in any way.  It didn't matter last fall, it won't matter this fall.  I don't know what he was trying to accomplish on that show, except perhaps to gain a foothold to a future career after playing football.

Lying is a bit harsh. I'd say he was putting the best spin possible on the emergence of Cobb and the realization that his days as the #1 receiver were probably numbered. Much of what he said strikes me as little more than pandering to the Queen fans.

From new StarTrib interview:

“It’s not a free-for-all. There’s structure,” Jennings said. “But there’s liberty. You can breathe. It’s like, ‘OK, I can do my thing.’ You know what you need to do, you get it done. Whereas [in Green Bay], everything was more cookie-cutter. … It’s just different. In a good way. And not knocking what we did there. Because obviously it was successful. But here, no one’s walking on egg shells.”

I really never expected GJ to be the most vocally disgruntled ex-Packer since Favre. We obviously don't know what happened behind the scenes, but I can't imagine it merited the continuous barbs he throws whenever he gets a mic in front of his face. That's not just weird for one of "our guys," you really don't see it happen that much anywhere in the league when a guy leaves.

You wont find a bigger bunch of thin-skinned pussies than NFL WRs. I have no clue why, maybe because when they're lined out wide they're so far away from the rest of the offense they feel ostracized? You'll notice flankers (aside from Harvin) are the less whinier of the group, which is akin to being the world's tallest midget.

Oh, and what foo said.

Jennings is acting like a jilted ex-girlfriend. Get over it already!

I'm not surprised there's less structure in Minnesota. Frazier seems like a HC who wants to be liked by his players. McCarthy seems more interested in being respected by his players.

hmph, was kinda disappointed when gerg made it obvious he wanted out.

now, ummm, good riddance, glad to be free of his slacker(apparently) ways.

sure does add fuel to my "keep being sad sack losers viqueens" fire.  hope they crash and burn like never before.

Walking on egg shells? WTF is he talking about?

His words are just really weird. It's not personal Gerg, just business. The Packers made a business decision. We have limitations called a "Salary Cap" that we need to adhere to.

The guess here is he'll be out of Minnesota in 2 years

He has a point. In Green Bay, the offense is predicated on receivers making precise reads with excellent timing and route discipline. In Minnesota does it really matter exactly where he is when Ponder launches one?

Jennings is smart and media savvy and his recent behavior  has been puzzling. Some of it undoubtedly is just pandering to the fans and organization but he's gone overboard with it. I still think a big part of it is his desire to be "the guy" and he realized Randall Cobb made that impossible.

You nailed it, heyward.

Keep talking, Greg.  Since the Packers issue all their players IPads, MM will be able to send out Jennings' quotes hourly in the weeks before the 'Queens games.  The new bulletin board!

Reminds me of the difference watching "hard knocks" between the Jets & Dolphins. Philliban is all business and very organized, Ryan seems to spend all his time making jokes, telling everyone how great they are, fake boxing, & bull****ting with people visiting camp on the sideline...however all the players JUST LOVE playing for Ryan

I think this shows how the little things can raise a good team to the level of being a Super Bowl contender.  Most teams have talent.  Most teams have decent coaches.  But to rise above the level of decent or good there needs to be a focus on all of those details that may be tedious to players but is the thin green line between being a Viking and being a champion.

Man, he just can't keep talking -- some new incendiaries.

... He felt compelled to prove his career success hasn’t solely been a byproduct of having played with future Hall of Fame quarterbacks in Rodgers and Brett Favre.

Jennings isn’t sure enough outsiders remember that during Rodgers’ first year as a starter in 2008, he was the quarterback’s top target, catching 80 passes for 1,292 yards with nine TDs. Or that he continued to aid Rodgers’ ascension with more than 2,300 receiving yards and 16 scores over the following two seasons.

“I was kind of that comfort blanket so to speak,” Jennings said. “But this is a quarterback-driven league, so people forget about the guys around the quarterback.”

Jennings wanted his abilities appreciated. So in his final months with the Packers, he started thinking more about what was next.

“Maybe,” he said, “I need to go back to my college days where the quarterback wasn’t just viewed as oh-so-great and still prove that I can be successful.”

If Jennings hadn’t tired of Rodgers specifically, he certainly had his fill of the environment in Green Bay, wondering if the ubiquitous Rodgers lovefest had created a narrative that de-emphasized the strength of the group.

Throughout this offseason, Jennings has subtly jabbed Rodgers, rarely calling him by name and referring to him instead as “12” or “the guy they have now.”

“A lot of times when you have a guy who creates that spotlight for himself and establishes that and takes a lot of that, it becomes so-and-so and the team,” he said. “It should always be the team.”

Asked in a later conversation to clarify those sentiments, Jennings expanded.

“For me, I’m such a team person, I’m going to defer to my teammates,” he said. “I’m going to defer to the team, to the team, to the team. And I think when you reach a point where you’re not deferring any longer, it’s no longer really about the team.”

Jennings paused and looked around.

“Don’t get me wrong, ‘12’ is a great person. But when you hear all positives, all positives, all positives all the time, it’s hard for you to sit down when one of your teammates says ‘Man, come on, you’ve got to hold yourself accountable for this.’ It’s hard for someone to see that now because all they’ve heard is I’m doing it the right way, I’m perfect. In actuality, we all have flaws.”

Only because Shoeless' "You wont find a bigger bunch of thin-skinned pussies than NFL WRs" wouldn't fit.

And yes, the NFL Custom jersey site has become my go to site for busting a friends balls when the mood strikes me.

I can't imagine his new teammates appreciate Greg's obsession with the talking about the Packers.  He's too focused on the past instead of integrating himself with his new team.  One thing Greg isn't is dumb about football.  I think he knew the writing was on the wall the moment  Cobb was drafted as his eventual replacement and has resented the organization ever since.   If Cobb goes off the board before the Packers pick I think Jennings is still on the team.  Jennings thought he was going to be the next Driver and I'm sure he had goals of taking the franchise record from his friend and going down as a Packer legend.  In his mind the organization took that away from him.  He's doing a fantastic job if his goal is to embarrass himself.

Jeez, did not think Greg was like this. Seems he's got all kinds of barbs to fling around regarding the Packers and Rodgers every time a mic is stuck in front of his face these days. Thought he left with no hard feelings and that was that, but the more he talks now, the more it sure sounds like his sister's stoopid tweets were things that Greg must have been saying. He sounds bitter, slighted(for whatever reason) and whiny about the fact that he didn't get more attention while he was on the team. Good riddens

We'll never forget you, Gerg

As the soundbites build. He sounds like a guy that's starting to realize Ponder is probably going to be the QB for the rest of his career and he knows that his career is going to slowly fade to pitch black.

It doesn't help that he missed most of the OTA's with an ankle injury....

I'm not hearing Rodgers talk back, so right now Jennings sounds like the bigger narcissist and an a** to boot. Jennings sounds like a jilted high school kid. Nothing like biting the hand that gave you the ring, Jennings. And yes, all this Pack talk has to be making his new teammates wonder if Jennings is pro-Queens or just anti-Packers.

Jennings paused and looked around.

“Don’t get me wrong, ‘12’ is a great person. He's going to have a real awakening with Ponder throwing to him and Peterson being the guy. In MIN, it is Peterson.... then Team.

It's a sad spectacle. He needs to impose a one-man media blackout. Otherwise he perpetuates the belief that the entire franchise over there is based on Packer Envy. I believe Freud had something to say about that....

I had no idea Greg was such a self-centered attention whore. He must have been really upset when he realized that Cobb is already better that he ever was and #18 is ascending and Greg is descending....

The only thing I'm wondering is what Jennings thinks Rodgers has to be accountable for? A missed throw? Lack of leadership? Kicking the cancer woman? Missing that an open Jennings in the SF game? By his comments, Jennings has now assured himself of more media attention as people will be asking for more specifics. Frankly, his comments smelf of jealousy.

Not true. Jennings was a great receiver for a number of seasons. Cobb may eventually get to that level or even exceed it, but he's not there yet.

I mentioned this before...

I'll always thank Greg for making that huge play during the 4th quarter on 3rd down in the Super Bowl when we HAD to have a first down & our defense was gassed.

Even though the offense couldn't put the game away with a TD, we did drive down & get a FG, which really gave the defense a much needed breather.

But Greg....seriously....STFU. Enjoy your new team, new contract & new QB. Focus on the positives & ignore the past.
