Hall of Fame Finalists. Who's getting in?

The 49ers went from being a wretched franchise to winning five Super Bowls under DeBartolo, it doesn't take away much if he broke the cap rules with the fifth one.

I think Haley should get in. The man has 5 rings and was an extremely big time player. If I'm not mistaken, he somewhat revolutionized the game at the elephant position.

The fact that he was a bad teamate and certifiably crazy might hurt his chances though.

Greene and Parcells.

Greene had a great career, but I don't see him getting in this year.

Cris Carter should already be in, IMO.

Parcells seems like the slam dunk of this list.

Tim Brown deserves it, too.

Carter (hated his attitude, still dislike him) and Brown were both great players. People just don't talk about them as much because they played for second rate teams with mostly second rate QBs. Cortez Kennedy is another guy that is overlooked because he played on a losing team most people didn't pay attention to.

In the cut down to ten, Jerome Bettis, Tim Brown, Eddie DeBartolo, Kevin Greene and Will Shields were the first 5 out of HOF consideration.

In the next cut, Cris Carter, Andre Reed, Charles Haley, Aeneas Williams, Bill Parcells and Will Shields dropped. Leaving 5 finalists (plus Seniors reps): Dermontti Dawson, Chris Doleman, Cortez Kennedy, Curtis Martin, and Willie Roaf.

Selectees are:

Jack Butler (Seniors), Dermontti Dawson, Chris Doleman, Cortez Kennedy, Curtis Martin, and Willie Roaf.

I like this class. Great players, lunch bucket types, not guys who were good plus hyped all to hell.

Will Shields getting dropped in the opening 5. That is an absolute joke.

Do I have Cris Carter overrated? I can't believe he's waited this long, only to be denied again. Maybe the reputation he cultivated in his playing days is hurting him now. The lack of a championship is also a major hinderance, I suppose.

I mean, if Michael Irvin, who makes CC look like an altar boy, can find his way into Canton, I find it really surprising that Carter's still on the outside looking in. Again, maybe never going to the big dance and winning it has something to do with this as well.

I will express my ignorance here. I'd never even heard of Jack Butler before the nominees were named. I thought he was the guy on 24.

And I don't want to hear any more crap about the Packers having too many Hall of Famers. Two more Steelers went in. It's time Jerry Kramer gets in. It's a travesty that he isn't in.

No Carter again. Good enough for me! Hate that dude...

Hated him as a fan when he played for Vikings, but he was a fine player. I've actually come around to respecting him more. He's one of the few on ESPN that I can tolerate.

I'm quite happy to see Willie Roaf in the HOF. On the other hand, to see players like Tim Brown and Charles Haley to be past over is ridiculous. The voters for Canton can be just as petty as those for Cooperstown.

Tim Brown not being in by now is just nuts. 1,094 catches, just under 15,000 yards receiving, 100 TD. 9 time Pro Bowler.

He should be in, and was much better than Michael Irvin, who is already in.

Hell, Sterling Sharpe and Brown should have both been in before Irvin.

I was reading some speculation that Andre Reed, Cris Carter, and Tim Brown ended up poaching votes from each other. They all belong there it's just a matter of when.

I think this class shows that personality plays a large part in whether or not a guy gets in the HOF, almost or as much as overall stats and championships.

I think it really has become a popularity contest. How does Doleman rate it while Haley doesn't? How does he rate it when his teamate didn't?

Like them or not, how can Parcells or DeBartolo not be in?

I have no truck with the guys who got in, I would just be more interested in hearing what kept the others out.

L'S ---as for the Kramer-Steelers thing, you might try to better understand the debate. The argument has been for years that there were enough Packers of the 60s team enshrined. Many feel the same about the Steelers of the 70's.

The two Steelers that got in were not even on the front or tail end of the 70s, they are not part of the Kramer-Steelers debate,---like say whether or not another member of the steel curtain was enshrined. Butler played in the 50s and Dawson in the 90s.
