I've got some family that live in the Northern 'burbs of Houston, not too far from G Bush Airport. They have prepared and now just wait....
Everyone stay safe!
I prefer to call it "Henrietta"
- All hurricanes should be female names
- Ron Burgundy has it right
You stay classy X4......
Been there done that.
Good luck to all and if you don't evacuate I don't have an once of sympathy for what fate befalls you.
40 inches of rain possible? H5, I heard Austin could get hit with some serious flooding? Build an ark yet?
Former family cottage in Port Aransas. Many fond memories. Waiting to see what's left.
My niece and her new husband are currently on their honeymoon, and are going to be living in Bryan since the hubby is going to be a grad student at A&M. Stay dry!
I think one of the mayors down there told people if they didn't evacuate to write their SS#'s on their arms so they can. be identified later. I think the. mayor got some flack from that comment. But I think he was trying to let people know to get the heck out of there so we don't put more First-Responders in peril trying to save/find those that didn't heed the warning.
Here is a report.
Rain all day in Austin, but not nearly as much as forecasted...at least no so far. The power has been off and on all day which seems ridiculous considering we've had no lightening and the wind gusts haven't been bad.
The upshot is it's 73 degrees which is unheard of down here in August.
For a big city like Austin, that does seem ridiculous.
I live in the middle of nowhere at the end of a dead-end street and we lost power for 46 hours in Hurricane Irene back in 2011. We got a lot of wind from Sandy in 2012, but the lights only winked once, which shocked me.

only in this day and age could people take offense to that.
Sister in Corpus Christi who rode it out and, thankfully, made it so far with only loss of shingles, all trees, and some other damage. Said she'll never do that again as it was horrifying. I thought she was stupid to stay in the first place!
Very good friends from here in Austin retired to Rockport a few years ago. They found a drone video on-line and it looks like their house is gone. They have insurance, they will rebuild, but so much lost.
Nephew, wife, and their 2 little girls live in HOU. They moved to a friends home that is in a higher area. They are safe and dry, but he is not sure about their house. They are 2 blocks from a park with a water way that connects to Buffalo Bayou. When they evacuated their home he had recorded +10" of rain there.
Not his home/pool.
Houston is under water. My good friend Mac sent this pic of his backyard a few miles from our house... a new guard dog. #HurricaineHarvey pic.twitter.com/hRfjkWEi4t

So it even rains oil in TX?
Some pics from my nephew via his friends drone. This is very near where the nephew lives. But, he said their place is still dry. He has a canoe and paddled over there this morning.
A before/after. That water way is the Buffalo Bayou which has been mentioned a lot on Weather Channel etc...

Wow. Thanks for sharing, Hungry5. Thoughts, empathy, and prayers out to those who are effected by Harvey.
Buffalo Bayou, heck. It's the Buffalo Gulf now. Thoughts to all affected. Stay safe, and try not to be the food for the "new guard dog." Heard they were straying all over trying to stay dry too.

It is really sad what is going on in Texas. I am calling fake on the alligator picture. It is one of those lawn ornament alligators. I live here in Florida, and I think I know what a real alligator looks like.
