So what if they negotiate this deal, 12 comes back for 2021, but is free to leave in 2022 and the Packers get nothing for a trade? Seems like a pretty fireable offense to me...

Yeah, that's what I was wondering.  Reworking the contract for one year?  Maybe there's a trade clause in there or something.  I seriously wonder if the Packers will get anything out of this contract other than letting him leave without a cap hit.

No, Chongo, what Schefter is reporting is that Rodgers remains under contract in 2021 and 2022, and that the current final year of his contract (2023) is voided.

Meaning

1) Packers have ability to trade Rodgers following this season if they are so inclined;

2) Both sides can work through 2021 and see whatever “new” relationship plus team/player success or failure warrants his staying on through 2022.

Rodgers probably ensured that there will be 3 times the media members at Packer practices at least for the first few weeks. He is singlehandedly stimulating the hospitality-based economy in the Fox River Valley this summer. The Applebees are going to be that much busier.

Ryan Longwell is gonna be pissed.

If GB agrees to let AR walk after this season with little to no compensation, I will join Henya on the Circle of Dumb world tour.

Rodgers only returns if we trade for Cobb! I’m not against it, guy still has gas in the tank. Savvy veteran.

What about Jake Kumerow? Is Rodgers really going to sell out Whitewater Jesus after all this?

The same year he turns 40.

The more info that's coming out, for what it's worth and it's probably not worth a lot, it sounds more like Rodgers has the ability to pick the team he wants to be traded to as in he wants to be traded after 2021 regardless.  Not sounding like the FO has much say other than to plead with him to stay if Rodgers is so inclined.  Man, I really wonder what trade talks would look like knowing Rodgers has the final call?

He plays for the same money in his contract this year but restructures it for more cap room.

They "re-assess" the relationship next year.

If this is truly the case, the FO should be fucking embarrassed.  It's a victory in that the Packers get one more season of Rodgers with some more cap room but ultimately it's like doing a fucking face plant but avoiding the railing nut shot.

Yeah, this is basically a deal pleading for him to come back so they could actually get something for Rodgers.  Otherwise Pakrz would have to join me on the Carnival of Moronosity around the World or whatever.

ENJOY!

Oh but we’re going to hear it was never about insults or offenses, it was just a contract negotiation that the clickbait engineers took advantage of!

Isn't that what you guys were saying originally?  It's just a contract negotiation?

It is, because it always was. I said it was about guaranteed money and control of his destiny and not getting screwed. Which it clearly was. The clickbait engineers, took it every which way but the correct one.

Glad drama is (mostly) over b4 training camp but I hope Rodgers doesn’t get to force a trade to an NFC team. Anyways let’s go all in and win it this season. Rodgers Revenge Tour for the Gold!

I dont get the "go to the team of his choosing" thing works.

What if he wants to go to a team that cant/doesnt particularly want to bring him in?

What if they do but what they offer isnt sufficient? maybe he just has a veto to reject proposed trades?

You forgot that whole not wanting to play for Green Bay part.

That was never real. Don't fall for the banana in the tailpipe.

Money, commitment, control, wipe away the beautiful mystery.

From what I'm reading,, he gets very little, but his side will sell it as much better, as will the Packers. The Packers, still own the controls for 2022. If they decide to trade him in 7 months, he has input on where, but he won't be able to force a trade.

Link?

I gotta tell you I find it pretty damn hilarious that people are calling it a win for the Packers to be able to get rid of a HOFer coming off an MVP season.   It's almost like they need him to make a Super Bowl run.

Genius.

I think the embarrassment for the Front Office has already been in full swing most of the off-season.  I suppose it could actually get worse, but I think Aaron's already made them look pretty silly, and frankly, I think it's made Aaron himself look like a prima donna of the highest order.  Not a good look for anyone this off-season.

The winners of this off-season would be Mike Florio and any other media figure that cashes in the reporting of the Packers' drama.  Hell, Florio should give Rodgers 15% of whatever profits his website makes just as a thank you.

Agree to disagree. It was about getting contractual security.

So all of this was nothing more than a contract dispute?  Like straight money?  Okay.

When the contract is the determining factor regardless of the reason for discontent it's technically always a contract issue.

Both LA teams are likely off the table as the Rams have Stafford and the Chargers have Herbert.

The Niners just gave up 3 first-round picks and a third for Trey Lance.

That leaves the Raiders and the Broncos.

Ideally, he'll win a Super Bowl with the Packers this year and then make his 45 million a year when he's 40 on another team.

Multiple links. Plus, this isn't info from just today.

The Packers control '21 & have majority control for '22, they conceded '23... for now.

Per multiple sources, Rodgers’ contract would be adjusted with no loss of income this year. He didn't give up any money for '21 or '22. Packers can extend him after '21 if they desire. That was always an option they had, and still have.
