I don't resent the Seahawks for the Fail Mary, just the replacement refs and the league...Really just Roger Goodell as he is the face of the league. I just don't like the way Seattle does business. I don't respect Carroll because of his history with cheating and that's not just Carroll I feel that way about. I feel the same way about Urban Meyer, Jim Tressell, etc. Carroll got off scott free, abandoned the ship, and is got a Super Bowl ring for his trouble. You'll have to excuse me if I'm skeptical that he runs a clean program in Seattle.

To sort of expand on what Grave Digger posted, if Carroll was such a great coach and honorable individual he would have tried to stay at U$C and show he could build a winner the honest way. Since he didn't do that and was such a failure at his other NFL stops one can only conclude he is cheating at Seattle. You just don't become a genius overnight.

Why is this a necessary conclusion?

He had already demonstrated a desire to coach (and of course succeed) at the highest level.  He's not exactly young.

I don't think it is reasonable to conclude Carrol could not possibly have left for the NFL for the simple reason that he wanted to succeed at the highest level before it is his time to walk away from it all.

You don't even allow that possibility.

You also do not allow that someone can improve his capabilities thru ~20 years of on the job training (I refer to his experience after the Patriots to just before joining the Seahawks.)

I think Carroll left Southern Cal because he caught wind that there were possible sanctions coming to the school, possibly a death penalty, possibly a show-cause for him, and the Seahawks job was open. He was being connected to NFL jobs every year, but none were ever an option because U$C was paying him like an NFL coach and he had almost complete autonomy over his program. The "highest level" for these guys is whoever pays the most and/or gives the most power to them. He had money and power at U$C and only left because 1) potential sanctions were going to lower his stock and 2) his program was in the NCAA crosshairs and he wasn't going to be able to pull his old tricks. Plus I think the rise of Stanford and Oregon in the PAC12 made it a much easier decision. He was responsible for all of the violations that occurred at U$C and bailed right before the hammer dropped.

I can't believe people still defend this guy! He taught scumbags like Lane Kiffin and Ed Orgeron everything they know.

Maybe that's just a bit of a leap you're making there?

Found this on SI from Don Banks:

â€Ē We seemingly always fall in love with our new Super Bowl champion every year, but dynasty talk does seem pure folly in today's NFL. I would remind you that no NFC champion has repeated since the 1996-97 Green Bay Packers, with a whopping 12 NFC teams winning the 16 conference titles since then. In that span, only Detroit, Dallas, Minnesota and Washington haven't made a Super Bowl trip out of the NFC.

Seems that the Packers, Giants, Philly and da Bears have a lot to say who gets to the playoffs in the NFC.
