The Packer 2016 Draft Shopping List:

1) A remake of the TE position.  (3 picks)

2) Durable RBs who can make people miss. (2 picks)

3) A WR that combines both speed and quickness (1 pick)

4) Another OL who can replace Barclay (1 pick)

5) A couple CBs who combine speed with size and don't get injured every 4.2368 tackles.  (2 picks)

6) A guy whose every dream is about decking every NFL QB on game day - and has the size, speed, talent, and will to make it happen.  (1 pick)

That is 10 draft picks.  Give TT a top 5 pick - along with the rest and see what happens.  Would not hurt to sign a few guys who can help now.

Get the most dynamic WR, TE or RB in the draft.  I think that's Fournette, Dalvin Cook or Mike Williams.  I'd also be happy with Jabril Peppers - the comparison to Charles Woodson are completely ridiculous, but he would be a fun player to have in the hands of a capable DC.

I'd like to see at least 2 RBs drafted (a bigger one and a smaller, quicker third down back), an interior OL (watching Barclay is painful), a DB, a WR with some size and a TE with some speed.

The entire draft should have an emphasis on speed, especially on offense.  They don't need another Richard Rodgers at TE, Davante Adams at WR or James Starks at RB - they need a guy that can take it to the house on any play.  Nothing wrong with those guys but we already have enough of them.  What we don't have is a guy that scares the defense.  Jordy used to be that and unless he recovers further from his ACL, this offense will always struggle to beat coverages.

I thought the consensus is TT would never draft a RB in the 1st round?

I thought the Packers did a good job adding team speed on defense last year, primarily LB. I hate to say it, but we need to do the same at CB this year.
Offensively, the added speed at WR came at the expense of smerts, experience, and/or skill. It's too early to make a call on Davis or Allison, but if we draft another fast WR, it can't be another 'project'.

I hate to say it, but they have to draft BPA. This team needs a significant talent infusion, especially on the defensive side of the ball, and it's not going to be a one year process. It's likely the last year for Shields (10 million), Peppers (9 million), Lacy (1 million), Starks (3 million), Datone Jones (million) and Lang (6 million) and they'll have to make big money decisions about Perry (5 million) and Cook (3 million). That's 39 million of cap money, most of which will become available.

I would think you'd have to take a long hard look at the contracts of Jordy Nelson (10 million) and CM3 (13 million) as well. If this was Belichick, they'd both be gone next year as they are worth a fraction of that in their current health/availability.

They need to retain (or likely sign or draft) edge pass rushers, CBs, TEs, RBs, a decent guard (if they don't resign Lang), and need more talent on the DL.

THIS      (Best post of the week)

This might bring the ire of a few posters but I think TT has a big decision to make on Cobb too.  He has a $12.75m cap hit next year and his performance this year and last don't support it.  If they cut him after June 1, he'd be a ~$3m cap hit in 2017 and 2018.  Or maybe TT brings up a paycut from his $8.6m base salary (as I don't see Cobb's value across the league being as high as it was in 2014).  Of course, TT only does that if he wants to use that cap money elsewhere.  Since TT rarely goes to free agency, maybe it's a non-starter.  But it is concerning seeing Cobb make that much money for average WR production.  Just something i noticed wen going through the Packers' 2017 cap situation......

Also, I don't think Cook's performance this season nets him a big payday.  At least not based on his performance so far.  Of course that could change these last 6 games.

Need a CB as I'm guessing Shields retires and the current state of our backfield says we're in trouble there. Need pass rush help, and a receiver who can stretch the field (again) since Davis doesn't appear to be the answer and if Janis is on next year's roster... I think we can find an RB in later rounds to be serviceable. Restructure Jordy and CM3 to reflect current value. Resign Lang, Cook, Tretter.

There are actually a few players who need to have their 2017 cap hit adjusted based on their production...Matthews will hit us for 15.2 million, Cobb for 12.75, Shields for 12.125, and Nelson for 11.55. All should be candidates for restructure as that is an absurd list of cap hits for the production.

-Clay's glorious return to OLB has him on-track for a dominating 25 tackles and 5 sacks. Do we want to be on the hook for 15 mil this time if his hamstring flares up again for weeks at a time.

-Cobb is on track for producing under 100 catches, under 1000 yards, and 5 TDs...which would put him 3rd in production behind Nelson and Adams. Hell Jordy and Adams already have more than 5 TDs each(9 for Jordy/6 for Adams). Maybe he's drawing the most attention and I'm all for riding a good player through a slump, but that's a lot of money.

-Shields obviously is injured, which isn't his fault, but again do we want to be on the hook again for 12 mil to a guy whose next concussion will probably put him out for another whole season?

-Jordy you can justify I suppose as he's still producing at a high level (on track for 90+ catches, 1000+ yards, and 16 TDs). Plus they say year 2 after ACL surgery is supposed to be when you're finally at full strength.
