Oh man I sure hope those initial reports are wrong and it isn't that bad for Jordy.

http://www.nationalfootballpos...he-divisional-round/

Jordy Nelson took a helmet to the left lower postero-lateral ribs and did not return. Not only is there worry for rib fracture, there is some concern for internal organ injury. He left the field on a cart with a primary care physician (not orthopedist). If there is a fracture (and there may be more than one), it will be difficult to play in Dallas this week for not only the pain, but the risk of injury to his spleen/lung/kidney. Without a fracture, Nelson might have a chance to play with medication/rib block and a flak jacket.

In other Packer news, Ty Montgomery who had recent ankle issues and was twisted up awkwardly and limped off the field. He returned to finish the game. By video, LB Blake Martinez injured his MCL. He had a similar injury in November. He could play and run well but would have trouble cutting.

The good news is the team appears much better prepared to deal with the loss of Jordy than they were last year. Adams is a much better player and the addition of both Cook and Allison gives AR more viable options.

Thanks for that H5.

Following up on Michiganjoe's post:   And Monty.

It's great that Monty is an option and a new look at RB, but right now I'm in favor of giving Michael the starting reps and moving Montgomery outside.  He looked great in the open field yesterday, but not so great carrying the rock.  Not knocking him, I just think he's finding out how hard the RB position truly is when you are not playing Chicago.  Michael came in and was flying through the holes.

Monty in the slot, Adams and Geronimo outside, Cobb all over the place. That's a scary group with Rodgers playing the way he is (and of course Cook).

Based upon MM's comments on Jordy, Martinez, and Monty, seems like the injury situation is better than expected.  However, I suspect that he's putting on his poker face when discussing Jordy.  Given the way everything transpired, I have a hard time seeing him suit up on Sunday.  Hope I'm wrong.

I get what you're saying Pistol, but I also don't think you can abandon what's got us to this point.  I think the game yesterday simply represented a terrible match-up for Monty.  That Giants' defense was an impressive group (regardless of what the score showed).  While the Cowboys have been good at stopping the run, at least from a statistical perspective, I believe that may be in large part due to their explosive offense (i.e., teams have been forced to abandon the run).  We should have an easier time running against the Cowboys.  MM needs to give Monty, Michael, and Rip carries, just as he's done throughout this run.

Good post.  You're probably right.  I trust MM will have the right combo for DallAss.

EDIT: I'll add this: I think Rip's injury must be worse than advertised too.  I thought  he would get more touches early against the Giants.

I think MM is doing his best BB on JN.

Not involving 88 in the run games takes a lot of match up opportunities off the table.  With 88 in the backfield, he can motion to pretty much anywhere.  Not so with 32.  I think MM can find room for both of them on sunday.  Also interesting if Rip is full go.  I got the sense he was limited yesterday.

As can Geronimo and dare I say Janis!   In fact I seem to recall 83 making some HUGE plays is Arizona last year.  Step up.

Oh God, not again.

Begs to differ.

Sorry, but how many times have we seen Packer injuries just linger and linger?

Yeah, MM didn't lie about Jordy being the rehab group and the "can't play if can't practice" on Saturday, but at this point in the season I doubt it's much of a strategic advantage to the Cowboys.

I favor moving various players into the slot, including Davante, Cobb, Monty and maybe even Geronimo at times. Cook outside a lot to draw the CB coverage. Waiting for him to go off on a team the way Finley did in that Cardinals playoff game.

As far as Rip goes....we need him for his knowledge of blitz pick-ups, etc....however, Christine ran like a bat out of hell yesterday.  I love seeing that explosion.  He was running like he wanted to tell MM and the team:  "just give me the ball, dammit, and let me run with it!!!"  or   "I need to get carries so I can show you what I have and get a big contract!"  or something like that.

The team cannot start the first quarter plus as they did against the Giants. Had the Giants not had the drops that game could easily have been 17-0, and everything changes. So the Giants dominated, and all they had for it was a 6-0 lead. We got a mulligan.

And then the Giants trashed the airplane they traveled home in.

Except for the 3 other quarters.  But yeah, mulligan.

Nice job by the Post on the score of the game.

They can get it done without Jordy. Plenty of guys have stepped up and made plays during this run, Rip and Michael the last couple weeks, Allison, even Janis. Nelson healthy would be great, but idk that I'd want him risking serious internal damage.

3 years in the system. I get he has intriguing athleticism, but even that has been hit and miss this season on STs. At least Bush was a serviceable DB, playing some CB and S. Janis seems to know just 1 route.

Hold it. Janis added a reverse to his playbook in 2016. It's being reported that GB is looking at a pass route in 2017 that features a right turn. What concerns the coaches is Janis' ability to grasp the right/left thing and to convince him right doesn't change after the quarter ends and the teams change direction.

"Playing with multiple rib fractures puts internal organs at risk. Better safe than sorry.

Danger of multiple rib fractures is chest wall unstable. Further hit risks lung, spleen or kidney. Not worth risk

Without having seen his X-rays,   prognosis:

Division round = doubtful

NFC championship = possible

SB51 = probable

The staff's concern sprang from Janis asking "my right or Aaron's right".
