It will be interesting to see if #12 can change his stripes and take that open Target for a 5 yard gain when it’s available.   IMO, that’s the key to the season.

If Mayo isn't running the "Let Aaron Handle It" offense I don't see an issue.  My guess is any long ball will actually be a scripted play by Mayo to play to Rodgers strenghs.  I truly don't see an issue with Rodgers going to the open man and that means consistently open man, not the 3 second clip of one receiver getting open for one play the entire game.

The run or the threat of the run didn't mean shit in McVince's offense because it was so predictable.

I used to ask Mrs. Kiel before every 1st and 10 what play we'd be running, and she'd say, "Run up the middle for 2 yards."

Fukk you, Pittsburgh Macho, when a 62-year-old woman who wouldn't know a screen pass from a draw play knows what plays are coming, I kinda think the other team does too.

If Rodgers is as smart as everyone says he is, he will remember last year's second half in Game one vs the Bears.  Quick passes that Chicago had a hard time adjusting to.  I think our defense will be better.  Hopefully it doesn't take a half before they start playing.  If they come out playing well, GB will win.  Maybe 35-14?  Probably more of a wish than a guess.  We will see ...........

I just want the Packers to kick their ass.....oh, and to shut up the talking heads saying that the Packers are ranked 3rd in the division.

The talking heads aren't wrong. There are a lot of signs pointing to a 5 or 6 win season. However, for the first time in 2-3 years, there are some reasons for optimism beyond just having Aaron Rodgers as a QB. It's just that the talking heads don't look in that much depth.

Reasons for Pessimism

1 The Packers are 13-18-1 the last two seasons.

2. They are 30-24-1 in games Aaron Rodgers has started the last 4 seasons. He will turn 37 this year.

3. Other than Adams, the other 5 WRs are completely unknown outside of Green Bay.

4. Several college teams may have better ILBs than we do

Reasons for Optimism

1. For the first time in a decade, the other teams won't be able to call out the plays before they are run.

2. The WR routes will actually be more than "please beat your guy one on one and get open"

3. Our offensive line and RBs look pretty solid.

4. We have the best LT in football.

5. Jason Spriggs is not the backup tackle.

6. The secondary has more depth than it has in years.

7. Aaron Rodgers is still the QB.

Reasons for optimism:

LaFleur wants to run the ball and will actually use A.Jones creatively. MM’s use or lack thereof of Jones was criminal.

We really have pass rushers now.  Pettine can be creative but we have OLBs that can generate pressure.  Cm3 and Perry were the starters last year.  Ouch.

pessimism:

I’m not sold on M.Adams next to Clark.  He and Lowry need to step up.

outside of Alexander, the CBs are a question mark.  Can King stay healthy?

Optimism.

I think we will see a team this year that will look like it is enjoying the breath of fresh air

I am very anxious to see an offense that will actually stick with the running game.

Rodgers.  I think many in the sports world and some people here have been too quick to write off #12.   And I would bet AR has taken notice of that.

Angry bald man.  If that defense can stay healthy (looking at you Kevin King) I think they could do some really good things.

Pessimism:

Injuries.  This team is always so banged up

MLB depth is very much a concern to me

I think Mr. Clean is creative enough to overcome the ILB depth and we shouldn't use that as an excuse if the D doesn't perform up to standards.   Every team has weaknesses.

I expect we see a ton of 3-3-5 with Martinez being the only ILB on the field for first down.   The nickle back can be Greene or an additional CB depending on matchups.   On running downs or against heavy run teams we go with a more traditional 4-3-4 alignment.     There is nothing written in stone that we need to play 3-4 at all.   We will play alignment / personnel based on matchups and given that ILB 2 is our current weak link, I don't expect to see them on the field often.

Good analysis. I think the team is in good shape vs. the run at ILB against the run because of Kenny Clark. Having a Pro Bowl level DT/NG can make even average ILBs look really good against the run. I'm not sure what they are going to do against the pass. The big thing will be to win first down and be able to go to that 3-3-5 alignment in 2nd or 3rd and long. 2nd and 4 means keeping two ILBs on the field to stop the run. 2nd and 9 means the additional CB.
