Dolphins have been finding their mojo.

From The Ringer:

https://www.theringer.com/nfl/...ovailoa-tommy-devito

Winners: Mike McDaniel and Tua Tagovailoa

The Dolphins are still alive. A 34-15 win over the Patriots on Sunday improved their record to 5-6 and pulled them within a game and a half of the Broncos for the final spot in the AFC playoff field. More importantly, Miami’s offense looks like itself again, a few weeks after Tagovailoa returned from injured reserve because of the concussion he suffered in Week 2. The Dolphins have ripped off three straight wins and averaged over 30 points per game during that streak.

Tagovailoa deserves a lot of the credit for the turnaround. His signature timing and accuracy have helped power the Dolphins offense after it struggled to do much of anything during his absence.

But head coach Mike McDaniel also deserves a share of the credit. With defenses selling out to take away the deep shots to Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle, McDaniel has adjusted his scheme to attack the shorter part of the field. Tagovailoa has the NFL’s lowest average depth of target, at 5.6 yards. He has the league’s quickest average time to throw. He’s one of four quarterbacks averaging a positive EPA on throws behind the line of scrimmage. And only Baker Mayfield is getting a higher percentage of his passing yards after the catch, per TruMedia.

And while McDaniel is scheming things up for Tagovailoa, the quarterback is performing well on the more difficult plays. Only two passers have a higher EPA average on throws beyond the line of scrimmage, per TruMedia. Tagovailoa hasn’t thrown an interception on a pass over 15 air yards since his return.

The playoffs look like a realistic goal, but the path to the postseason will not be easy. Miami travels to Green Bay on Thanksgiving night, and the early weather report calls for 18-degree weather—and Tagovailoa’s issues in the cold have been well documented. The Dolphins also travel to Houston in a few weeks, though that matchup looks a bit easier given how the Texans have played of late. Miami will play the 49ers in Week 16, when Kyle Shanahan’s team should be healthier than it was on Sunday. The Dolphins have no margin for error, but with Tagovailoa and the offense playing like this, they might not need one.

Facing Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle on a short week with no Jaire should be a piece of cake for our secondary. 😝

The Pack’s offense is going to need to be on point and bringing their A game this week.  I suspect our defense is going to have a tough time keeping the Dolphins under 24 points if Tua and company stay healthy.

To get to 5-6, the Phin's have beaten a horrible Pat's team twice. An even worse Raiders team. And the Jags, also terrible. Their best win was beating the Rams.

A 3 game winning streak is good. But that team has a lot of this feel to it:

Was just going to post....Dolphins last 3 games.

  1. Rams
  2. Raiders
  3. Patriots

Those 3 teams have a grand total of 10 wins.

The Packers are 8-3.

Take the ball away, No giveaways....and RTFB!!

Same recipe as vs. the Niners.

Playoff football begins on Thanksgiving.

They also gave the Cards and Bills a run for their money.  They aren't a bad team, they're just on the losing side of the equation more often than not.

As usual the Thurs game will come down to who can prepare better on a short week and who is more rested.  It was nice to see the Packers start to take out their starters half way thru the 4th quarter.  Miami was up by a lot in their game but for some reason played their starters the entire game.

Also can't overvalue the fact this is a home game as was yesterday's.  That's the easiest schedule you can want for a TH game, other than yesterday's game being late.

Also, get to Tua on the pass rush. You don't want to hurt him, but you want him to feel the pressure. I'm sure he's more jittery than most QBs in the pocket because of his injury history.

If the Packers can generate a decent pass rush without having to rush more than 5 every play (and sometimes rushing 4), they are going to be a real Super Bowl threat. If they can't generate pressure while dropping 6 into coverage, they aren't going any farther than the divisional round at best.

Mark Tausher and many former Packers have said it cannot be overstated enough how valuable it is to sleep in your own bed and not travel for short schedules like this.

You simply get better rest, eat better, aren't dealing with the stress of getting on a plane for 4+ hours, then a bus and settling into a hotel. It just makes a world of difference.

Not to mention much easier to rehab during these 3-4 days as well.

Counterpoint

-The Packers have 8 wins against teams with a combined record of 37-53

-The Packers have 3 losses (2 at home) against teams with a combined record of 28-5

They beat the lesser teams (5 games within one score or less)  but not the top teams (where they've been down 28-7 at halftime and 24-3 midway thru 3rd).

Wins in the NFL are hard, regardless of your opponent.

Tru dat! Not flying home yesterday, or flying out Wednesday to somewhere, is a great thing. This one's gonna be a fun one, I think.

Found on the internet: Dolphins will be discussed all week in a similar manner to the worry given SF. I call BS. Run it down their throats, execute the play action with short throws across the middle, play complimentary D, have Whelan pin them deep, have what’s his name continue hitting every field goal, let the fins get cold, and pin a 40-7 loss on them.

The Dolphins are playing very well. Watched them vs Buffalo. They had three players listed as not practicing today (if they would have practiced) because of injury...starting LBer, starting CB, and starting LT.

Dolphins have very good skill position players....especially their RB, Achane. Obviously Waddle and Ty Hill.... I expect a lot of un-scouted looks from the Dolphins.

Jump on em early.....pour it on and take nothing for granted. It's playoff football time from this point forward.

How does their speed work out on the very cold, probably slippery surface of The Frozen Tundra Thursday night? Pretty sure the underground field heaters will be on, but it's gonna be a cold night from what I hear.

It's looking like we have an above average team overall with a very overrated GM and overpaid QB who looks fantastic at times and like he's still in high school at times with his carelessness' with the ball.

The cold doesn't seem to be a factor, anymore, like it was in the 1970's and 1980's. For some time, winning in Lambeau wasn't a priority for the Packers, either, it seemed. The natural advantage of playing outside, in the cold, at home, should be a recipe for winning for the Packers. It's high time we made it so, once again. Time to kick Dolphin butt! GO PACK, GO!!!
