King assumed the perpetually injured role from Nick Perry. Stokes better be ready because history says he'll probably be starting sooner rather than later. I apparently like King more than many fans do but the guy just can't stay on the field.

I go back and forth with King.  I think IF he is healthy I think he is a decent cover corner but at the same time he well have a huge let down and give up something he shouldn't.

Then there is his lack of ability to stay on the field.  Glass Joe from Punch out has more durability.

I'll give him the benefit of the doubt as his way of shaking off a massive fuck up.  I've heard the blame is communication failure between Pettine/Mayo/King so that may be part of his laid back response.

Pretty sure that call is what doomed Pettine.

I do agree though that he'll probably start off strong then slide into high tackling and dumdum shit.  I can't imagine Jerry Gray isn't up his ass about it.

Heard one of the beat writers imply that virtually all of King's inconsistency was related to injury and I can't agree with that. He can range from a very good cover corner to a guy that appears shouldn't even be in the league, often in the same game. No real issue with the team resigning him but they did appear to overpay a bit based on other contracts.

No! Find me an emotional CB and I will show you a guy who will soon be out of the league. CBs need to have short memories.

I meant emotional engagement in the sense of a deep caring for your craft, not having a mental breakdown every time you get beat. He just strikes me as a guy who "plays football", not a "football player". I wanted him to talk about what he learned from the experience, how it is going to make him better, not act like it was "no big deal".

I think King will be given every opportunity to keep the job. I think they may believe they owe him that chance. Stokes may not be ready in Sept/Oct, but it will be interesting to see if he makes strides early on. It's hard to figure out King, and some of it may be due to playing opposite a true shutdown corner. But I think he deserves a shot to prove he can stay healthy and consistently make plays. If he doesn't show up, it's on him.

That makes sense. I have to agree with you.

Wasn't it King who was getting chastised a couple of years ago for using that 'circling' or 'rounding' technique defending receivers?

Yes, this was something I know that I made at least one post about. That "rounding" automatically creates separation and King loses his man on the turn. If the QB and WR are on the same page, King is roasted and toasted. He's shown it several times and it makes for an easy completion. This play by Kittle shows how badly King can get burned.

King needs to be coached, on how to defend, when the Packers go into a zone defense. King gets lost in a zone scheme. There are too many other defenders in, or near, his space and he gets beat due to heavy traffic between him and the ball carrier. King's length should be a big asset, for him, in man coverage. GB may need to resign themselves to the fact that if King is covering a WR, at the line, he may need help over the top of the play, to prevent a big gain by the offense.
