I gotta say, I do not get the "OMG JEFF FISHER" love at all.

He had 1 run to the Super Bowl (and lost) that was only enabled by an illegal forward pass on the last play of the game in the opening round vs Buffalo. Since those 3 playoff wins 11 years ago, he's won a grand total of 2 playoff games. He's also lost the opening playoff game as the #1 seed twice.

In the last 7 years, he hasn't won a playoff game, has only gone to the playoffs twice, and is 4 games under .500 in the regular season.

He completely botched the Collins/Young transition. He stared 5-2 this year only to end 6-10. His team provided the appearance of quitting on him multiple points the last 2 years. 59-0 anyone?

I don't get it at all. He's done nothing of note in 11 years and the only year they did anything, the refs didn't have the balls to correctly call the illegal forward pass on that kickoff.

Can't wait for some team to overpay the crap out of him and then we'll have ESPN proclaim that the next up and coming team.

If he didn't have a mustache, no one would care about this guy.
I do get the Jeff Fisher love and I don't get the second guessing here in this thread. 17 years as a coach in the NFL in this age is quite an accomplishment. Fisher was never overmatched like Wayne Fontes who only was able to sweet talk the Fords for 9 years. Up to this year, and perhaps the year before, the Titans have historically been a solid organization. I do agree this is very strange and the fight over Vince Young clearly has caused the fabric of the team to unravel.

Fisher's teams were always tough and fought hard, but he never really did anything. 17 years, winning % of .542, 5/6 playoff record, 1 SB appearance, 1 conference championship (1 appearance), 4 division championships. That's it.

Just to compare in Bill Cowher's 15 seasons, he compiled a .623 winning %, a 12/9 playoff record, 2 conference championships (2 appearances), 2 SB appearances (1 win), and 9 division championships. The difference is that Cowher is actually a good coach.

Oh and in 5 seasons, Mike McCarthy has a .600 winning %, a 6/4 playoff record, 2 conference championship appearances, 1 conference championship, 1 SB appearance and 1 division championship. Not in Cowher's league, but getting off to a good start.
I see. Apparently I cannot read a bio and a recapitulation of his playoff record on this thread according to you. Facts are facts, sure.

-20th all time in wins.
-Fisher oversaw the team's relocation from Houston in which the Oilers played in four different stadiums between 1996 and 1999 before moving into their current home.
- Since 1999, Tennessee ranks seventh in the NFL in winning percentage with a 110-82 record.

What does McCarthy have to do with this? Did I say he was better than this guy or that guy? Did I say he was better than Cowher? I said I understand the love and I don't understand the crap in this thread. The post season record is not great, but let's put it in perspective. Coaches Winning percentages in NFL Postseason:

Don Shula 0.529
Paul Brown 0.529
Tom Landry 0.555

2 or 3 more wins and he is on par or better than those legends. Is Fisher a HOF coach? borderline.

Further, do I send love to Sam Wyche? Playoffs: 0.600, Reg Season 84-107 over 12 seasons.

Fisher is a very good coach. I understand the love for Fisher. I didn't say he was the best.
They managed to acquire the best punter of almost all time!

Err sumthin...

On a positive note, they did gain a reputation of thuggery and asshatness that rivaled few teams. JF was often credited for that persona.

If anyone cared about it, it would have mattered.

BTW, SUPERBOWL BABY!

Out of the kindness of my heart, they can overpay Slocum and maybe even Campen for their new stuff. Oh wait I mean staff.

Green towels for the fans is all that matter right now!
GC,

Wasn't trying to offend you, just giving you my counterargument.

I wasn't putting words in your mouth either, I was merely pointing out that I think Cowher is one of the best all time and it's hard to find someone to compare Fisher to. There aren't many coaches who have been in 1 place as a HC for that long, Cowher is one of the few. That much I will give Fisher credit for, he has survived. Heck, even Lombardi was only in GB what, 11 years? And let me be clear, I'm not saying Fisher is a bad coach, but he just gets a lot of hype simply for being in 1 place for a long time. And that's fine, but his results in that 17 year span have been ho hum. He's got a lot of wins and has had some great teams, but looking at his overall body of work, I remain underwhelmed.

I wasn't saying McCarthy was any better or even including him in my argument against Fisher, I was pointing out his resume as our HC is surprisingly good. I was just excited when I looked it up. McCarthy has the mindset and vision to be the next Bill Cowher, but who knows if he will.
