Don't BS us, Greg. You weren't looking for a change. If the Packers offered you the big bucks, you'd have stayed.

It always comes down to money. And there's nothing wrong with that, so long as the players don't try to kid us.

Next man up. What young receiver will we develop that the Vikings can overpay for in 7 years?

Yeah but he's a great guy. Roll Eyes

How so?

and yes, I hope he does well because the better he does this season the better the comp pick GB gets back

That's because it's always personal with the player when another team offers more money than your original team. And Jennings certainly knows how much Packer Nation hates the Queens. He still has to get passes from Cassell and Ponder. Our OL and defense is sturdy it won't matter what he said at his presser.

That's not GJ not commiting. That's TT's M.O. that he rarely does contract extensions beyond 4 years. If you look at TT's extensions, 3-4 years are right in his wheelhouse. He wanted GJ's just long enough before he hit the magic age of 30. Then see where he was at that point.

Rodgers likely to be the exception to that.

His quote about getting up in age and wanting to go to a contender.
No hard feelings, he will be a good team player in Mn. Hope he plays for years and walks away healthy.

You can't pay everyone. We will pay Arod, cm and Raji. We will continue to devalue rbs and rotate in new wrs. Draft big guys early and late. Lots of lb/te size guys for special teams.

We let Jones walk, then resigned him and made him one of the leagues top scorers. Viva TT!

Well, is he supposed to say that the Vikes aren't on GB's level? It's his new team, of course he's going to talk them up. That's what all these guys do. It's just PC crap

It came down to Min or GB and it seems clear to me that Minny offered him more, so he accepted. Simple as that, and that's fine. He was a really good player here and a great team mate. He never ripped this organization or the fans, so I can't really be upset with him.

I'll boo him though since he's on the Vikes, that goes without saying

I hate to give credit to an agent and a defecting player too. But I recall the articles after that 3 (not 4 as I thought) extension and getting back into the FA mix was definitely mentioned as a factor. And it worked for him. I hope it goes much worse on the field. Rand Moss Part Duex worse.
TT made the right call, definitely. Too much coin considering all the circumstances. Do you think GJ will still be playing in purple in 5 years? I would bet at least 2 of Cobb/Jones/Nelson are still with the Pack in 5 years.

One more thing, GB has a national following, unlike the Vikes. How many Vikings do you see doing nationally televised commercials like Rodgers & Jennings? I don't remember any at all.

Best of luck to GJ. You made the right decision for you & your family's financial future, but ultimately you will realize that you left a better QB, a better team, and a much better organization for money.

With TT, with these smaller extensions he does it actually benefits the player. If TT had Jennings sign a 5-6 year deal, no way he gets this kind of money at 31-32 especially with his injury history.

At 29 going into 30, he gave Jennings a chance at another decent pay day.

Same with Finley. Jones. Likely CMIII and Raji too.
Happy for Jennings, I was just so impressed with him when he'd come down to Milwaukee and visit the company I work at. I have no ill will towards him whatsoever. It's a business, and you've got to strike when the iron is hot.

It's a loss for the Packer organization, but it is a loss that definitely can be overcome as Randall Cobb is emerging as a star slot receiver and James Jones played some very good football last season. Jordy will still be Jordy, a deep threat who can also function as a possession reciever. Those 3 guys stay healthy and the Pack will still be in very good shape at receiver. An injury though, and that's where having a 4th top guy will be missed.

The greatest thing TT has done/does is keeping the Packers out of situations where they HAD to overpay a FA or had to franchise a player. The Vikings had to sign a WR.

Now lets have Finley back up those enormous physical gifts and lip with some consistent play for once. Unlike some I did not want him gone. I want him to play better. He should be a matchup nightmare and he teases you just enough to make that apparent but never delivers week in and week out. I've screamed for them to get rid of A.J Hawk but that's another matter entirely.
What I don't get is that for slightly less money he could have re-signed as a Packer. He would have then had the chance to retire a Packer...with a ring, and he seemed like a well spoken, nice guy. The entire state of Wisconsin would have loved him forever.

I'm no marketing geenyous, but isn't there a lot of money to be made as a retired player in that type of situation?

That scenario is gone now. Some Packers fans will never forgive him for going purple. Others will understand it to be just another business decision. Either way, he'll be no hero in Wisconsin from here on out.

I guess there's always the chance that he could win a SB in Purple and give GB the proverbial "I told you so" finger. That would forever cement his hero status in MN. But last I checked, the Purple trophy case is still empty....and AP can't throw.
Screw the queens and every single thing about them. Their crappy dome, ugly new designed stadium, phony season ticket numbers, pumped in crowd noise, stupid ship off 494, sleazy owner who tried to buy an entire town off the stadium proposal, their gm that couldn't draft a clear minded WR with a gun to his head. Just a poor excuse for a franchise.
