You’re the preseason front runner

Why don’t you start your own blog on who should make the practice squad?  #7 WR?  Backup to the quality control assistant?

Who gives a crap.

Get out and enjoy the weather.  Read a book.  Do yard work.  Hell listen to the Brewers. A real game.  Or is that only for front runners too?

Says the guy who bragged about watching NBA Summer League where non of those guys will even make a practice squad.

I enjoy watching pre-season football, but can't approach it with the same mindset that I would a regular season game.
And yeah, there's lots of guys who names will be forgotten in a month or so, but it doesn't take away the fun of watching these guys compete, and in some cases, break out.

Dillon did that yesterday with at best the #2 OL (with some #3's starting as well) against the Jets #1 D...wait till he gets behind OL1...I loved Jamaal, but it took him a full 3 years to realize his potential. 28 looks to be a difference maker early in year 2.

Dillon will be getting the ball this year and it's going to be a blast to watch.

Especially when he comes in for a series in the third quarter to give Jones a breather and he's fresh and the guys trying to tackle him have been worn down.

I really like what Benkert has shown (as he throws another pick, LOL) but if there is a roster decision that comes down to 3 QB's or 4 RB's I'm keeping Taylor.

No offense to Benkert, but I hope the only time he ever sees the field in a real game for the Pack is in an extreme mop up situation where the Pack has a sound lead.

Just for comparison, Benkert is 26 years old and Jordan Love is 22.  Benkert may not have much more room for development at that age.  He might even look a tad more polished than Love at times but being 3 1/2 years older that’s not a big surprise.

Benkert seems like a cool guy, an easy guy to root for, and yet I still hope he never takes anything more than garbage time snaps if he remains a Packer once camp is over.

FUN FACT: Jamaal Williams had more rushing yards and more receiving yards and the most TDs during hi rookie season than any other season with the Packers.

In large part, that was because MM decided Jamaal was a better option than Aaron Jones to start the season and then Jones getting hurt towards the end of that year.

Wow, I didn't realize he was 26. Yeah, we've seen this story before. We all know how it ends if we want to admit it or not. His ceiling is post shoulder injury Matt Flynn.

Hill’s certainly making his move. Can’t ignore the guy making plays.

He's got the perfect teammate in Aaron Jones, too. They have such a similar playing style. If he can learn to be a receiver like Jones (and he's already better there than Jones was as a rookie) then we already have the next Jones on the roster a few years down the road.

I think his ceiling is more like pre-shoulder injury Matt Flynn. That still fits with your comment about how we all know how this ends, as other than that one absolutely extraordinary game against Detroit to end the 2011 season when Rodgers was resting (6 TDS and 480 yards), Flynn was pedestrian due to his lack of athleticism even before the shoulder injury.

In all his other career games outside of that Lions game, Flynn was 188 for 313 for 2061 yards, 11 TDs and 10 interceptions. He was 3-3 as a starting QB.

That said, if you wanted a backup QB to come in, run the offense, take what was there, and not pull a TJ Rubley, Flynn was your guy.

I think Benkert could be that kind of guy. Love has much more potential to be a very good QB in 2-3 years, but I'm not sure that he gives you a better chance to win a game this year if Rodgers misses time than Benkert (or Boyle last year).

I'd like to see 4 RBs stick. I'm a bit surprised Taylor hasn't had a chance at some kickoffs but they seem to want HIll to get all the reps he can there. Taylor has gotten good work as the protector on punts, though.

It also seems like they want to give Nijman every chance to be the backup at LT as he's getting basically all the snaps there. Van Lanen got some snaps inside this week. How the O-line shakes out will be interesting.

Adams, Lazard, Rodgers, Cobb, MVS and maybe Malik Taylor look like the wide receivers. I don't think they keep a 7th, but Taylor's Special Teams I would think puts him as #6.

ILB looks to be Campbell, Barnes and Burks , and I think  I'm probably okay with that. OLB could really use another guy, though maybe Galeai sticks.

Yiadom might have a decent shot at making the club, I'd think. Beyond Alexander, King, Sullivan, Stokes and Shemar Jean Charles, there's not another favorite with Ento struggling against the Jets and Holman being, well, himself.

Wow, I'm surprised how many people have Funchess cut. I know he offers nothing as a ST guy but I like what I've seen from him between Family Night and the first preseason game. "Chinky" comment aside, I don't know why they would cut him. Still it's a good problem to have compared to the last couple of WR's on the 2020 roster.

It depends on his injury status. Yeah, preseason is junk and hard to tell some things, but his availability may count against him. I'd prefer him over Taylor, but who knows? I'm guessing Special Teams contributions will play a big role in those late spots.

It will be interesting to see who gets cut at WR and whether or not the new Assistant to the GM had any say in it.  He may prefer Funchess over Taylor.  Funchess is the superior receiver but what does he offer our moribund ST?
