Harbaugh will get his when his players get tired of his ranting and raving. You can only live with that type of "professionalism" for so long before you either rebel or tune out. Players can't live in that type of pressure cooker year after year, play after play, etc.
On the other hand, that's why guys like CM3 and AR sign long-term contracts with GB before their current one is up -- they respect MM and can see playing for him for years. They see how he treats players and is professional himself. He demands of himself as much as he demands of his players in terms of actions and words, and they respect him for it. I don't hear the word "respect" being tossed toward Harbaugh very often by his players; passion, will-to-win, emotional, yes, but not respect.
Harbaugh will be just fine as long as he's winning. IMO what separates guys like MM/Harbaugh are how they would change if either went through a prolonged stretch of not winning. I think it would grind at MM but he wouldn't change who he is or how he coaches. He'd stay on the same even keel and try and get guy's to improve. I think it would turn Harbaugh into a f*****g maniac and nuke his insides like a hot pocket in a microwave. I seriously think he'd jump ship the first chance he got. He's not wired to not have things lined up to go his way or not succeed. At least not in the NFL.
Forgive me if this has already been posted, but here is a funny piece from 1997 about Harbaugh punching Jim Kelly:
As much as I like that CM3 and MM take the high road in all of this, just ONCE I wish they would respond to one of these questions by inviting Harbaugh over to look at their super bowl ring. Maybe they could even let him touch it.
Harbaugh would say, "whatever, I was turning a mediocre college program into a power then and I beat your ass three times in a row...get back to me in February."
I would love it if MM or Clay would just say "Somebody give Jim his cake now!".
Every time I see that guy throwing a tantrum on the sidelines I just think of that voice over clip. :-) This guy is talking about tough guys and he can't even act like an adult on the sideline.
